Hydroplaning is pretty scary, especially with a FWD car

is it less bad with rwd? if the front end hydroplanes, you've got no steering regardless of which end is driving.

It’s worse with RWD cars lol. FWD cars have more traction on the wheels delivering power since that’s where most of the weight of the car is. “Especially with FWD cars”, I think is an incorrect statement. A RWD car likely would have spun around even more, causing more of a head on collision with the first car.

that was my understanding as well. i've never been in a low-traction situation in FWD that couldn't be solved with "put the pedal on the floor and point the wheels where you want the skid to go"

Exit stage right/left is a cartoon character called Snagglepuss. He was around in the 60’s when I was a kid. The Rush album was named after his catch phrase which was a reference to Shakespeare, even. Heavens to Murgatroyd

Did they just drive back up and away off the on-ramp?

No

Huh. Kind of looks like the driver pulled away going the wrong direction, so I thought maybe they were headed back up the onramp. Whatever happened, horrible mess

I feel like if there's a stereotype about the drivers of every brand maybe it's just drivers in general that are the problem

u/Elfkrunch 7d ago
No, i scrolled down to make sure that someone posted that link. This person is doing good work. Nissan drivers are a menace.

I live and work near this exit and drive past it every time going to work. You wouldn't believe the number of idiots who come off that thing forcing their way out by diving into highway traffic. It's absolutely nuts. Garrisonville exit on I-95 North between Stafford and Quantico in Virginia.

The Black Jeep or whatever that just powers through behind the truck as it's smashing into the barrier....
Was that driver even paying attention to what's going on?? Everyone else is stopping and they're casually blasting through cars smashing like it's dodgem cars

Never hard brake if you can avoid it. Clearly you see they are in the third lane and directly behind the truck cutting in front of them. They did well by not stopping, avoiding getting hit and the debris, and pulling over as they are a witness and probably have damage from the debris.

Yeah but why bother thinking about it when you can just say something stupid on reddit

They stopped too, they pull over on the left. Though I think they start to leave again as the video ends.

truck driver will lose job, license, career somehow.

Sadly his safety department will blame him for switching lanes .had he stayed in his lane he might’ve squeaked through or barely clipped the vehicle at fault . I know it’s hard to do but braking hard and maintaining lane is what I’ve been told over the years of driving transport. By switching lanes you could injure others and possibly the at fault vehicle gets away unscathed.

Video shows a lot of water on the blue car trail. So drive slower when there is water around. No aquaplaning at 50km/h. Even new tires aquaplane at 80km/h.
This could have ended in tragedy.

Man if only there was an aspect ratio that could show the whole video without panning

They weren't trying to merge, they were trying to do a right hand turn

u/LongjumpingBrief6428 8d ago
By turning left?

The hydro planed the right side (you can see it in first few frame), causing the car to lurch to the right suddenly, the driver over corrects to the left, but regains traction while way over corrected for the initial issue. Lesson avoid puddles at higher speed, especially when turning.

What a level-headed female in the vehicle. No screaming and she was conscious about traffic behind them.

That's what i came to say. Both people were in calm, collected, and composed.

I remember this accident. It had been raining for days. The car hydroplaned really badly. There’s a massive puddle on the exit.
