Trying to avoid an accident by creating an even larger one. Smart.

That's not avoiding accident, that's being impatient.

No he was cut off by a slower moving vehicle who did not have enough space (and they braked after merging as well).
3
u/Time-Paramedic9287 4d ago
But why did the first car who merged in slow suddenly? No blinker, merge, then braking.

u/commorancy0 4d ago
Brake checks are relatively common on highways. As a driver, you must always be prepared for a brake check situation, which means keeping a safe distance from all cars. The brake check from the first car caused the driver behind to overcompensate and lose control of their vehicle. Why that front car brake checked, I don’t know. We don’t have a long enough clip to see what happened 30 seconds before this clip to know if road rage may have played a part.

Traffic was slowing ahead, the Accord should have already been slowing down, or at least been prepared to do so, before the Tesla moved in front of it. Instead they either panicked or tried to speed up and squeeze the gap in front of the cammer to get around (and get stuck in traffic anyway)

That truck that took out their back bumper didn't even flinch lmao. Unbothered and in their lane

Notice no brake lights. For some drivers swerving is their only answer. The thought of braking just never occurred.

Telsa brake checks driver.
Driver whips around. And would have been OK if it ended there.
Driver decides to try cutting off Telsa. Overshoots, oversteers, pandemonium ensues.

u/BoringJuiceBox 5d ago
Looks like they may have been road raging against the Tesla that brake checked them

u/Flakester 4d ago
Tesla was slowing down for the cars braking in front of them.

u/Time-Paramedic9287 4d ago
Tesla merged into the lane with a turn signal then braked - very likely a brake check.
1
u/Critical_Fan8224 5d ago
this Tesla caused that on purpose

u/DearChickPeas 5d ago
Probably. But if you're one light brake tap away from total carnage, maybe you shouldn't drive sniffing their inexistent muffler.

u/oxidized_banana_peel 4d ago
I'm rarely worried about getting brake checked cause I'm rarely that close to another car.
People are crazy.
2
u/Ready_Studio2392 15h ago
Yea. Like I feel I've never been brake checked in my life, except for maybe one case with a crazy driver who picked me as their target of aggravation for a portion of the road.
If anyone swears people are brake checking them all the time, it's very likely the person complaining is a shit driver who sniffs everyone's exhaust while driving.
Like there is nothing but advantages to leaving a couple seconds or more space between cars. Smoother accelleration and less braking leads to less wear and tear on car. Improved traffic because people can merge freely instead of needing to to force their way in and cause a braking wave. Reduced stress and fatigue since you can relax slightly instead of being 0.3 seconds from death for 2 hours a day.

1000%
If you're complaining about people brake checking you, cutting you off, passing you on the right, whatever, I want to know what the difference between you and me is.

u/Time-Paramedic9287 4d ago
That car merged in.
6
u/oxidized_banana_peel 4d ago
Yeah but the one that wrecked was going what? 20 mph faster than traffic? 30 mph?
Imagine trying to weave around instead of just hitting the brakes. The bus ain't gonna explode.

u/Time-Paramedic9287 4d ago
They weren't behind the Tesla - right at the start they had about 10 car spacing, but the Tesla merged in and braked (after merging) at 1s mark.

The Tesla driver is slowing down early for the traffic ahead and avoiding having to slam on the brakes because some jackass is tailgating them.
1
u/Time-Paramedic9287 4d ago
But whey didn't they slow down before merging?
2
u/JPolReader 4d ago
I think the Tesla was using FSD or cruise control. Unless the avoidance works without those.
-8
u/Critical_Fan8224 5d ago
nah he brake checked him for tail riding
13
u/ProgrammedArtist 5d ago
I don't think gently getting on the brakes counts as brake checking.
But after watching it a few more times, it looks like the Tesla changed lanes at an inopportune time and slowed down because of traffic ahead. Accord was still a moron because they had plenty of time to slow down but decided to slalom into the barrier instead. Both are morons, but Accord driver excels at it while the Tesla driver is just a novice.

u/Flakester 4d ago
He wasn't tail riding. Tesla was in the third lane over and moved into the second. The Altima Bozo was just flying through busy traffic and found himself in a pickle.

u/squishsharkqueen 5d ago
I have to say, very minimal damage to the surrounding vehicles lol that could've gone so many ways and they missed most of the cars somehow

u/Gruffleson 5d ago
I think the front silver car managed to bleed off much speed suddenly, the second silver car didn't pay attention, and the cam-car might have helped a little somehow by bleeding off speed, without actually being the one to blame of course.

At first I was like sweet Tokyo drift around the car in front. Then I was like nooo, bad Tokyo drift into other cars and the median.

Judges gave a 1 out of 10. The setup was sloppy, the board slide was too short, and there was no technical skill involved

They did kind of get cut off, but probably better to just tail end the car in front.

The Tesla driver was a fucking idiot. Cut off the Honda then slammed the brakes.

Great example that stability control should be mandatory on the road.
6
u/Consistent-Cobbler90 4d ago
Or maybe just better licensing and only allow competent drivers on the road and not have to rely on tech to fix stupidity.
2
u/AnnoyedVelociraptor 4d ago
No. Even good drivers can get caught like this if they're trying to evade something.
-2
u/ConceptOther5327 4d ago
Everybody in this video is bad driver.
Cammer should have moved right when there was such a long stretch where they wouldn’t be passing anyone.
Tesla should not have switched lanes in front of someone going so much faster than them. They also hit the brakes hard without any reason to be slowing down that quickly.
Accord driver should’ve just slowed down and waited for a safer opportunity to pass.

u/IHaveTheBestOpinions 3d ago edited 3d ago
Cammer was literally in the act of passing the Tesla, which is an appropriate use of the left lane. Tesla may have braked a little more than strictly necessary but there was a slowdown in front of them and they have a right to brake.
This was all on the Honda for trying to weave through traffic.

u/ConceptOther5327 3d ago
The video has been cropped to not show the Tesla changing lanes. They actually moved into that lane without using their signal just as this video starts.

Its crazy that your trying to blame cam driver for this, hes passing the telsa and theres congestion abead, Nissan easily coulda waited 10 seconds to get behind cam driver...

Not sure why people are not catching the Tesla that caused it by merging into a faster moving lane and then brake checking. These guys deserve to be rear ended and then fined.

u/HallowDuck__ 4d ago
Cam car sped up to prevent the accord from passing. Absolute bottom feeder move. Cam car had likely been “passing” the tesla for miles.

Given the Tesla seems to have moved over near the beginning of the video, nope. And I don't see the cam car changing speed either.
