Saved my neck a few times when they pretend to be victims calling the cops.

Dash cams should really just come standard in every car
47
u/bottomcurious32 4d ago
I'm sure it would be an uncharge of $1000 for a $100 camera if this was the case
32
u/Ultra-CH 4d ago
And you would need to pay a subscription to access it!
15
u/bottomcurious32 4d ago
Maybe 2 subscriptions. One to record the footage and one to actually store and access the footage š

Thatās why Amazon dash cams exist. $80, plug and play, done
2
u/bottomcurious32 3d ago
Right.... I'm just explaining why this isn't standard and why we buy the $80 instead....
2
u/InvestigatorKey3959 3d ago
Yep, $1000 dash cam that somehow doesnāt include the memory card.
1
u/bottomcurious32 3d ago
You are clearly missing my point about dealerships price gouging new features.
3
u/InvestigatorKey3959 3d ago
nah I got what you meant lol, just joking about how theyād still manage to screw us with the SD card missing
3
u/bottomcurious32 3d ago
Oh! I missed the joke because I was thinking cloud storage. You're 100% right I apologize š too much tunnel vision today

u/LymanPeru 3d ago
my car has a bunch of cameras, but its very weird that they dont have them set up to record.

The stupidity and recklessness just to save a couple of minutes always astonishes me. That's why I hate drivers.
27
u/red_simplex 4d ago
it's not even minutes usually. Plain seconds. You can let 18 wheeler pass and go behind it in 10 seconds.
18
u/tulobanana 4d ago
The number of times Iāve seen people weaving in and out of cars, driving recklesslyā¦and then I pull up next to them at the red light. All of that risk for zero gain. Not only that, but they spent their whole trip stressing. Even if it did save time, Iād rather get there 2 minutes later and be relaxed than 2 minutes earlier and on edge like that. All that cortisol or whatever canāt be healthy for you every time you drive

Sold. You've sold me. Can anyone recommend one with a modest budget?

Here's some footage from the Red Tiger F9. It's what I have and it does a decent job.

u/amazinghl 4d ago
Do you want one that see the license plate number or not?
8
u/Shadowhawk0000 4d ago
Oh gosh, yeah I guess. That's the point right? Yeah.
15
u/amazinghl 4d ago
You would be amazed on how many dash cam can't pick up the license plate number at day time. Most can't pick up the plate number at night time.

Why the fuck is the video flipped left to right in the last 2 clips?
3
u/RammyBoRammy 4d ago
It's just video clips from other people. This isn't all the same person, just the same person posting the video compilation.
4
u/ShadowPsi 4d ago
Of course, but why are those two clips flipped?
2
u/RammyBoRammy 4d ago
Bro, I don't know... algorithm or something?? The same thing people do with other people's content. They flip it and call it their own. It's all about clicks.

Can a truck bumper just shrug off most of these or is it expensive work in the ship time after?
13
u/pariah1984 4d ago edited 4d ago
I count at least 3 that were the truckerās fault.
2 swinging wide into the other lane on a left turn
1 failure to maintain proper distance (even though the guys 3 cars up stopped in the middle of the offramp)
Edit: on closer review, I agree with everyone below that the 2 left turns were not the truckerās fault.
Really weird to me that one of them had 2 vehicles turning left from the lane to the truckās right, though.

u/MrT735 4d ago
One of the left turns the truck looked like it wanted to go straight, but you can see from the lights that left lane must go left and centre lane can go both left and straight.
12
u/Typotastic 4d ago
The truck was in the center lane, you can tell from how the lanes/lights line up. Pickup was trying to pull a pro-gamer move and get in front of the truck from the rightmost lane.
6
u/laxfool10 4d ago
Na the two swinging wide were cars trying to cut in front of the truck while not even being in a turning lane (you can even see how the lanes line up). Trucks will 99% of the time generally take the outside lane of two-lane turns otherwise they won't make the turn without hitting what ever is to the left of the truck (oncoming car, median, signs, etc.).
2
u/Typotastic 4d ago
At least one of those lefts was someone trying to make a left in front of the truck when they weren't in a turning lane. The one with the pickup at the end is definitely that.

u/Educational_Share_57 5d ago
I think we ought to make them required by insurance companies. That, or make every car manufacturer do the same as Tesla and build them into the actual vehicle. And before anyone mentions "rights", it's not a right to drive.
4
u/SnooMaps7370 4d ago
I can get on board with this, but only if the video storage is not remotely accessible. requires someone to get in the car, turn it on with the key, and plug in a USB stick to transfer the files.
4
u/bottomcurious32 4d ago
Thank goodness this specified USA. I couldn't tell by the people poorly driving oversized vehicles on the right hand side of the road.

All I can say about the non-semi drivers is, āwhat were they thinking???l
2
u/Franndly 4d ago
Doing it out of habit to other drivers (not semi) on the road, doesnāt require thinking

One of these is not like the rest lol. Regardless, reddit convinced me to get one a couple years ago and while i've never needed it, it does feel good knowing I'll have it.

That second one is wild... Unless mechanical failure that driver should never drive again

Why don't these truckers brake?
12
u/spartaman64 4d ago
trucks have a much longer stopping distance than cars
-8
u/Suspicious_Fail_2337 4d ago
Why don't they anticipate if they have a longer stopping distance
10
u/spartaman64 4d ago
in most of them the cars turn into the truck's lane. id say maybe the second to last one the truck could be held partially liable
-7
u/zgillet 4d ago
A rear end is always the from-behind person's fault.
8
u/spartaman64 4d ago
nope the car changing lanes must yield to cars already in the lane not the other way around.
-2
u/zgillet 4d ago
I mean same lane rear end.
3
u/loopsbruder 4d ago
That's just not true. It's frequently the from-behind person's fault, but when there's evidence that a four-wheeler cut off and brake checked a semi, the semi driver's insurance will deny liability.
1
u/dazzleox 4d ago
I always wondered how literal insurance companies are about that when I see these sort of videos of people stopping short in front of a big rig.
