This is my third attempt to post this somewhere relevant, but it's not easy to post as a brand new account on Reddit. Once I get enough karma (or whatever I need to post in the more relevant subreddits), I'll post there.

Hey everybody, I know DII:R has some age on it now, but I haven't played it in a year or two, and I had hoped this bug had been resolved. Alas, it has not.
My main hand weapon disappeared today due to a bug. Here are the circumstances that caused it to happen. Maybe there's a detail here that someone could use to fix this problem.
I play on PS5 (base, not Pro) and this was on an offline character. I had just leveled up after beating Shenk in Act V on Nightmare on my Fist of the Heavens / Smite hybrid Paladin. I went straight back to town to use the quest reward to add a socket to my Wizardspike. I did so, and quickly added a Shael rune to it. Then I opened my skill tree to spend my skill point.
I misread the FoH description to think Resist Lightning rather than Holy Shock boosted lightning damage - no idea why, but for some reason I had gotten that in my head. So I added one point - the only point so far - into Resist Lightning. I switched back over to see how much FoH's damage had increased when I realized my stupidity: the damage hadn't increased at all, and I saw clearly that Holy Shock, not Resist Lightning, was the skill that boosted FoH's lightning damage.
I quickly opened the PS5 menu and hard-closed the game without saving and exiting in the hopes that it wouldn't have synchronized the last 30 seconds or so with the game server.
When I returned, the skill point into Resist Lightning had indeed been refunded. That was good. But my Wizardspike was nowhere to be seen. And, oddly, the socket quest reward was no longer available, and the Shael that I had used on my Wizardspike was now back in my stash.
But my Wizardspike was completely gone. Not on my second weapon switch, not in my character stash, and not in my shared stash. It was just gone.
I know it's just a Wizardspike, and people have lost a lot more - including full characters - to this bug, but it's still frustrating, and it really, really should have been addressed a long time ago. Also, I still have fairly regular issues (i.e., once every handful of play sessions) where there are supposed discrepancies between the PS5 console save and the cloud save. Now when I finish a session, I always go to the "View sync status..." option in the PS5 main menu to ensure that the console and cloud saves are the same. It's an annoying extra step that I can easily forget after a long or late play session, and it shouldn't be necessary.
Anyway, maybe my loss can be someone else's gain, preferably someone at Blizzard or Vicarious Visions, and some detail of my problem can help illuminate the underlying problem causing this bug.
Or maybe I'm screaming into the void. Anyway, thanks for listening. If anyone has tips on how to avoid this in the future, I'm all ears.
