When people ask what rounds of the past they should watch I will tell them to watch this round.

In the midst of all this, I want to shout out Brian and Perk in the booth. I’m so glad it was them today.

Best commentary team on DGN for me. Also really like how they're using the drawing on screen actively to show what they're talking about.
7
u/MistaMando last cash pressure 14h ago
Yes! Perk called the shot on both throw-ins. He’s very good at this!

Huge respect to Buhr for those classy words about Paul.

u/iJon_v2 11h ago
What did he say
10
u/Longjumping-Swan-827 "The path to success is about the path" -Doss 9h ago
He basically said that it's always an honor to play against the "goat" and he was happy to finally have that head to head battle with him. He was excited to see Paul being clutch and tap into that vintage McBeth. He also praised his work ethic. Those are the main points that I remember.
Paul also hailed Buhr as the best player in the world in his interview 🤝

Is this the most the general public has rooted for Paul? It feels like people always liked Paul but when he was winning there was definitely a “anyone but Paul” attitude out there, similar to Gannon now. Such an incredible tournament. Instant classic. Also, Brian and Nate are my favorites. Very insightful commentary, and allowed tension when they didn’t constantly talk at the end. Nate’s “global warming is a myth” remark was so corny but funnily endearing, especially because of Brian snickering in the background.

u/wweswilliams 12h ago
As long as I have been watching (2017) I have never felt that way. Paul has always been THE guy. Other people have dedicated fans, but Paul has always been the guy when he is raining putts down or making insane shots he gets the love.
3
u/BraveRutherford 12h ago
His demeanor used to bother me when I first started watching pro coverage in 2020. Never really rooted against him but today I was absolutely rooting for him. I was also cheering for Gannon to make it as hard as possible for him to win. Really fun watch.

i've never not rooted for the underdog, probably why Rick is my favorite pro. Now i get to root for Paul, so that's pretty awesome.

u/slothage666 13h ago
DGN nailed it this time
18
u/BraveRutherford 12h ago
The dude in yesterday's thread who was complaining about dgn and cancelled his sub absolutely missed a historic round. Not all live rounds are this good but honestly most of them have moments that just can't be reproduced after the fact. I still love that we have post produced it's really fun going back and watching condensed versions of iconic tournaments. Or if I can't watch live I know I've got a back up. Really feel like we've got the best of both worlds right now.

u/MistaMando last cash pressure 11h ago
I really hope jomez/DGN gives us a cut of just Gannon v Paul. Sprinkle in Kyle’s eagle throw-in, but otherwise I want to rewatch this 1v1 battle again.
81
u/pangrampanda 13h ago
- Epic 1v1 battle between two of the best ever
- Two incredible throw-ins
- Came down to the last hole
- Two great commentators with actual chemistry
- No Nate Doss saying dumb shit non-stop for 4 hours
- No Philo contradicting Ian every 15 seconds
- No Gannon caddy staring into the camera
- No "Let's go, G!" every hole
Was this the most enjoyable round of disc golf this year?

Waiting as long as we have to see Paul put a full tournament together, only for this to be the way he breaks through it… I mean what a hell of a ride we’ve all been on.

I feel like this is going to be huge for Paul going forward. Getting that confidence back by proving you can still win against the best in the world has to be amazing

Upvote for more Tour spots like this.
They call it “Break-Neck” and “Birdie or Die”, but its really not. -12 is the hot score for all the open hyzerfest courses, and theyre a lot more crowded at the top as well.
Joey Buckets shot -5 day one, and -7 yesterday and climbed from 60ish to 29th. One fire round and 2 solid rounds puts you in contention for a top 15. Theres also a ton of big numbers to be had. So much decision making, so much GOLF to be played.
Can we please just find ways to make courses like THIS, but better? This is the future i think 80% of fans want to see on the DGPT.

u/C2TI Just a Circle 2 Tap In 20h ago
As a local ish person I agree! We NEED more courses like this but the DgPT is moving away from these in favor of more spectator friendly hyper bomb courses.
But Idlewild’s has such a unique feel I will cry the day they take it off tour

U can hear the love Brian and Nate have for it. It’s just classic disc golf. We need to have an all Northwoods tourney, and make more courses like this, KCWO, Nwoods, etc. that demand so many different shot shapes and landing zones. I also love Olympus, New London Tech, Nevin, Brewster, Maple Hill. But yeah, let’s get more precise technical landing spots. Brian has been preaching these artificial OB creek type greens, and I agree. Force a dimejob for a C1 putt. Give the greens more risk reward, and we will get all these forced C2 highlights from SMART play, not because of a bad approach. Make C2 the smart play.

Perkins and Brian are the absolute best. The excitement, the knowledge, they make everything seem bigger and better. They’re too good to keep out of the booth on a week to week basis.

You were either foolish for believing Paul could actually pull it off this time or faithless for writing him off the moment Gannon had him by a single stroke. Either way, it was a great time 😎

Grant Zellner is proof that we can have good interviewers on DGN if you actually give a shit about your craft. The former players absolutely know disc golf, but when they talk to the players pre and post round they generally ask shit questions. The PMcB interview after the win was excellent. We actually got genuine insight into his round outside and of "how does it feel to win again?"

I am just loving how lately all of the players winning (FPO & MPO) are so easy to root for.
They’re all genuinely kind humans, love the game, have respect for their competitors, classy interviews…the list goes on. It’s really rad.
I shed a tear for every single one because you can tell how much it means to them.

I'm Back. At 54:25 of the DGN last round coverage, after parking his approach shot on hole 3, McBeth says "I'm back" to his caddie.

Today could be EPIC!
GOAT versus the best player of this modern era at the prime of his game.
Paul has to keep it together for one more round on a course he is very very familiar with. Let’s see if he can keep that putter on fire.
I’d love to see Paul get the win - but I’d just be happy with some super high level golf and a battle to the final hole or OT.
Heart says Paul but if betting I can’t NOT take G.
Gannon with the win.
