Discussion holdmybag asking for SSN?

when trying to make my holdmybag account i was prompted to verify my age but my driver’s license was rejected even though i’m of age. one of the other options is social security number, is this safe??

Never. They shouldn't be asking for it if they are, and you might want to check the URL closely (make sure the site address exactly matches their domain name) to make sure you're not being scammed.

And even with all of that, fantasy DG sounds awful and risking my identity on a site that will absolutely have a leak seems like a no-brainer to avoid

I’d work with customer service (if it exists) to find any other way to verify your age before handing your SSN over. I wouldn’t trust Hold My Bag with that data. Ever.
