Aren’t planes prohibited from landing and taking off after midnight? [2:50am]

Just heard a loud noise and saw RNAF Tanker taking off from EHV airport. I’m not complaining about this, but was just wondering because all the passengers planes are forbidden from landing / taking off.

Well, I heard from a friend who works in the airforce that Eindhoven is primarily a military base.

So yeah, the military makes their own rules.

This. And when all hell breaks loose the civilian airport will be forced to shutdown as per direct.

When the Dutch Air Force was recovering the bodies from MH17 they landed on Eindhoven, and every civilian flight was prohibited to land from about 2 hours before landing till after the ceremony was finished. A lot of planes were circling around back then.

Indeed, Civilian aviation is a guest on Eindhoven Airport, it's a millitary base first

It's a military base so no luck.

Eindhoven airport and airforce base Eindhoven are two different entities. The former is a renter of the facilities, and only has a permit for daytime use.

The later coordinates everything and is bound to a different permit compared to the former

This is the correct answer and everyone should know this in the area. Same as living next to Volkel (which is a nuclear target).

With more political focus on military it will become more apparent over the next few years.

Heard it as well. I guess military aircraft got their own agenda

The militairy side of the airbase has always flown during the night. After 9/11 night traffic was crazy.

There was an announcement about this due to staff shortages there will temporarily be some late night military flights

Really? Can you find that announcement cause that sounds very strange.

'We don't have enough staff so let's open up outside the normal opening hours!'

Ah but it's always open till 00:00 but normally they don't let as many aircraft land after 23:00.

It also didn't say anything about military flights in the link. They have different rules from the civil flights anyway. (There have been more flights in the middle of the night lately to refuel aircraft in Polish airspace.)

After living few years, I understood. No one can stop military decision. You left with no choice. Either you close door or listen up something. Hard truth

No I mean, I love planes and military, just curious if the rules is only for civil airliners. I’ll probably try to take pictures of the plane haha
