Endometriosis, EIN, and hysterectomy question

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

I was recently diagnosed with EIN (Endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia), which is a type of pre-cancer. Oncology appointment coming up.

I also have endometriosis.

If I have a hysterectomy, does anyone know if it’s advisable to have it done robotically or laparoscopically when the patient has EIN and endometriosis?

Or does it need to be a fully open abdomen laparotomy so the doctor can remove all the endometrial adhesions?

Does anyone have any insight on this? Thank you.

Hi, they should be able to do the hysterectomy and remove endo with a laparoscopy. I had exactly that done 10 days ago.

I got diagnosed with EIN in July and have had endo for many years prior, as well as suspected adenomyosis. I have had 2 laparoscopies for endo in the past (2012 and 2015).

I had a total hysterectomy last week also via laparoscopy. They also took my fallopian tubes but I kept my ovaries (I’m 38). My uterus was bulky but not so large that it couldn’t be removed through my vagina.

Before the surgery I asked if the endo could be removed at the same time. I’ve had worsening symptoms for the last couple of years, which had become very bad in the last 6 months. I’d also had blood in my stool during my period, which suggests bowel endo.

Apparently the whole surgery took nearly an hour longer than it would have taken without the endo, but they removed a lot of it, as well as adhesions that had glued my left ovary to my pelvic wall. There was still some endo on my bowel that could not be removed without a colorectal surgeon getting involved, so I will have to deal with that later. It was good to have the existence of the bowel endo confirmed.

Happy to answer any other questions you may have :-) good luck, I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’ve found it to be very stressful.

Thank you so much for sharing! I’d never even heard of EIN before this. I’m impressed with how quickly the hysterectomy was scheduled. Any comments on that?

And how many holes were poked through your belly?

And do you have to have any other treatment?
