All she knew was war. That’s so tragic.

2.1k

u/Not_Bee_Si 9h ago

Also Tragic that we, Ukrainians, are blamed for defending our children from the Russian terrorist regime…

Ukrainians criticised for not giving up the hope of being a free nation

For having the courage to request military aid, which is the only way to stop Russian aggression…

That's so tragic! Everyone is a peacemaker - and we - Ukrainians are “war gold diggers “

We are still standing but thanks to the peacemaker I don't know for how long

u/DogsReadingBooks Norway 9h ago

It’s actually wild. I don’t understand the people behaving like that. I doubt they would have liked so much to have their land taken away.

They want to believe the narratives that the USA is the sole source of all the world's problem, so if they are helping Ukraine, Ukraine must be the bad guys.

9

u/Signal-Initial-7841 Canada 2h ago

Loads of anti Ukrainian settlement are because of the believe of “USA Bad, USA supports Ukraine, Ukraine Bad”

Russia's betting on the fear that if they lose the war, they'll start throwing nukes. Obviously, they're lying, but it's an effective one

11

u/Super-Cynical 7h ago

They are also full of lies, like saying that the country is run by Nazis.

8

u/nynorskblirblokkert 5h ago

The idea of them seeing themselves as liberators is already hilarious. They literally kill the opposition, kill journalists, kill dissidents, and are probably one of the most corrupt countries on the planet. But they need to liberate their neighbors, clearly.

Good people of the world know the truth, and no amount of propaganda will overwrite the reality that Russia is a murderous terrorist state. I am truly sorry for what your people have endured and continue to endure - physically, emotionally and psychologically. They (Russia and their actors) want to crush our hopes and make us believe we're living in the Twilight Zone where up is down, left is right, war is peace, etc... they want to psychologically break people around the world and demoralize us and make us think there is no justice or morality or guiding light.

They are wrong and Ukraine stands as a beacon against this insidious, wretched virus. We in Canada support you, your sovereignty, and your righteous fight against these absolute monsters. Stay strong. You are just. Slava Ukraini!

u/Cold-Bobcat-4448 6h ago

I’m in the USA and I actually have a friend that left here and is over there fighting with Ukraine. He went shortly after Russia started the war. He has told me some really sad stories. He has seen the worst of humanity, but he’s also seen some of the best of humanity, meaning Ukrainians helping each other.

This one too. I don’t know how anyone could see the war as anything but Russian aggression. The propaganda painting it as somehow being Ukraine’s fault disgusts me.

7

u/TwentyninthDigitOfPi United States of America 7h ago

Yes, though it's sadly not too surprising that our rapist of a president would take an "it would all be over if you just let him take what he wants" stance.

3

u/manateeshmanatee 3h ago

Agreed. But it’s even worse than that. That pathetic shriveled orange fascist fuckwit looks up to Putin. He wants to be him. I’m honestly surprised he hasn’t totally turned on Ukraine. I fucking hate this country right now. It’s never been what we’ve tried to sell it as, but my god does the state it’s in now make me miss the “good old days” of the 90s.

The war was completely unnecessary. And the Russians can leave at any time.

No one sane would blame Ukraine.

That the Americans elected Trump, shouldn't mean we pretend the facts have changed.

I'm sorry that you see so much abuse. People are horrible.

9

u/Helping_Hoof Czech Republic 8h ago

In Czechia, Ukrainians are blamed (and this is true information) for a lot of them abusing Financial Aid systems.

26

u/jurainforasurpise 8h ago

Your country have up nuclear arms in exchange for a rock solid promise of protection. The US is traitorous towards you because of the orange Nazi, resist, felon in the White House.

3

u/KamelRedz0r 6h ago

have up nuclear arms in exchange for a rock solid promise of protection

Wrong. They gave up the nukes for money (which was paid) and a promise that the US, UK, and Russia will recognize the sovereignty of Ukraine, it's borders, and not interfere with their politics. There is ZERO wordage about a defense pact.

The Obama administration in 2013 already said the document was not legally binding (because it actually isn't...at all) when they sanctioned Belarus so yeah...

u/arrig-ananas 9h ago

That's a bit harsh. Balticum, Poland, and Scandinavian are 100 behind you with money and weapons. Unfortunately we are rather small countries, it would be nice if some of the bigger ones also stepped up.

49

u/QuitHumble4408 9h ago

God forbid the invaded ukrainians be “a bit harsh” about this.

16

u/arrig-ananas 8h ago

I totally get she is pissed that most European countries aren't truly backing Ukraine's fight for freedom.
When you see contributions like €39 from Ireland or €29 from Italy, it's honestly embarrassing.
Especially when the Baltic countries — Small economies with low-income populations — are giving €600 to €900 per person, and Norway tops the list with around €1,200 per citizen.

So gratitude towards those who help and shame towards those who don't.

3

u/Tkemalediction 7h ago

Except for the Israel-Palestine conflict, which has been adopted as a pet conflict by a lot of people since the 60s, usually the farther a country from a conflict, the less involved its people feel. I don’t think Baltic countries care much for conflicts ravaging some African countries. I am not saying it is right, just understandable.

Just like our grandparents

211

u/reoleo7 11h ago

They might've grown up in war, depending on where you live, but you wouldn't be here commenting if they'd died at two years old.

Also, can this not just be about a little girl who died before she was properly able to live?

27

u/Equivalent_Read 10h ago

My grandparents, born in the 1940s, have known many years without war. Angelina had 2 years of life, with war always at the forefront of her existence.

How easy it is to kill. And to kill children. And then to smile, shake hands and laugh.

This is the world we live in.

49

u/Soggy_Definition_232 9h ago

At the end of this war, whenever that will be... leaders will smile, take photos, shake hands, and share meals.

And this child, that never knew, or lived, in peace. Never lived without fear. Never experienced security or safety. She will still be dead.

I hope they all choke.

4

u/ValSintetic 8h ago

I hope they all choke

I second this

5

u/Tentativ0 8h ago

This will never happen.

Rich and powerful people always win in the end.

15

u/Why-did-i-reas-this 7h ago

My only consolation is that they do not always win. Death does though.

Here's a folktale. Going off memory so I hope you enjoy it.

There is a Mexican story that talks about a starving man who gets a turkey and takes it away to eat all by himself.

As he's about to eat he gets a visit from a fine looking gentleman who asks for him to share. The man says he is a poor man and never been full. I will not share my turkey with you. The fine gentleman says that he should share his turkey with him because he is the devil. The poor man reflects on this and says... the Devil does horrible things and gives undeserving people great gifts. And for this i will not share my turkey. Please be on your way.

As he's about to eat again he gets a visit from a second older man who asks for him to share. The man says he is a poor man and never been full. I will not share my turkey with you. The old gentleman says that he should share his turkey with him because he is God. The poor man reflects on this and says... God makes horrible things happen in this world. Allows wars and creates disease. You reate rich people, while poor suffer. You let inequity happen and sit back and do nothing. And for this i will not share my turkey with you. Please be on your way.

Once again, as he's about to eat, he gets a visit from a third humble looking man who asks for him to share his turkey. The poor man tells the person... I am a poor man and have never been full. The Devil and God himself came by and asked if I would share my turkey and I said I would not. Who are you to think that I would share my turkey with you when I said no to God and The Devil. That is a good question, the humble man said. For I am not the devil or God. But I am death. The poor man hearing who this man is stops and reflects and says. Ah, you are death. You treat everyone equally. Whether you are rich or poor you take them. I will share my turkey with you.

They don’t have to face the horrors, and they have other people’s sons and daughters pulling the trigger for them. Even if bombs starts flying over their own land, they’d be sitting in a bunker tasting the finest caviar while their people barely have shelter and starve. After everything they don’t even face the soldiers and civilians who bled and got traumatized, of course it’s easy for them.

5

u/Striking-Ad-6815 9h ago

I asked my Ukr buddy about this

They are just used to it. Horrifying to us, the civilians living the horror, just keep on doing their own thing. There is a video where everyone is enjoying the beach a day or two after an attack. Then in this video you see the air defense taking out a drone right off the beach. Someone on the beach filmed this incident. A couple people cheer, one guy raises a beer, but then they just keep going on about their day enjoying life. Very tough people. They treat explosive drones like we treat random hidden guns. Crazy stuff to me.

Her mother also got killed in the attack.

455

u/evabunbun 10h ago

At least they were together. Genuinely the worst thought as a mother is my child experiencing something like that alone. Much better to be together in their final moments

238

u/Big-Honeydew-961 10h ago

and as a mother, also waking up everyday knowing they were dead. I'd rather go with them.

I remember a scene from Man in the High Castle (?) on Prime Video.

A woman was unknowingly waiting with her kids in a gas chamber designed as a sitting room. Her kids were resting near her and she realized they were too peacefully asleep and looked up and saw a vent. Knew her kids were gone.

She knew she was next.

But she didn't fight it. I wouldn't either. I wouldn't leave them.

I couldn't watch the show after that. I don't know if she died. Literally the last scene I remember.

78

u/evabunbun 9h ago

I was telling my 12 year old about my grandmother being sent to farms in England during WW2 for safety. Her family barely managed that visa as well. Her mother went to and died in a concentration camp and her father and brother went to a refugee/work/labor camp. I can't even imagine being my great grandma freaking out about where to send her daughter. She sent my grandma away at the same age as my daughter. When I told my kid, it genuinely hit me in a different way given everything in the world. 😞 I'm glad for my great grandmother's sake she knew her daughter was safe in England

9

u/Big-Honeydew-961 9h ago

It’s so heavy.

I’m glad you can talk about that with your daughter.   It’s important.

I’d need a short term specific behavioral therapy series to be able to talk about something like that with my kids without breaking down into ugly tears.  Not exaggerating.

Our children are our entire hearts add one day they will just be out there…. Without us… fuck.  It would always be hard to feel this but you’re right—with the way things are right now it’s just devastating.

3

u/Inevitable_Driver291 United Kingdom 2h ago

Come on, it's politics. If we cannot talk to Putin we cannot end the war. Got to butter him up in the attempt to get a peace treaty on the table.

Either that or win the day on the battlefield - but there's no chance of that unless western nations step up and put troops on the ground. I mean I'd support it personally, I think Britain was weak under Johnson and should have offered at least aerial support, but there we are.

At this point there is no chance of Ukraine regaining their lands, Ukraine lack the might to achieve it and Russia will never cede what they have taken. Logically, a peace treaty will lose the Donbas. All that is left is what kind of long term security the west can offer what remains of Ukraine.

Let’s not pretend that Trump bears sole responsibility over what’s happening in Ukraine. We had 20 years of appeasement from Europe and the United States, all for cheap gas while demolishing nuclear programs. It was obvious ever since second Chechen war, that Russia is not a civilized country and will never be such.

No, we hope that the next Russian leader will be a better one. Look at all the circle jerking around Navalany before and after he died! The fact that he’s just as imperialistic as Putin didn’t bother anyone. Matter of fact, the only thing he cared about was that the money Putin stole. He believes Georgians, Ukrainians or Chechens can be killed more effectively.

5

u/EducationalThought4 2h ago

This is Reddit, you must pretend that Trump is the sole reason for the invasion.

She didn't even get to live beyond her first years. Seeing a child grow up is one of the most beautiful things, and this senseless invasion has taken that chance from so many people.

u/ExpensiveMention8781 9h ago edited 8h ago

I know the comments like “what about thousands of children dying in Gaza” because I’ve seen so many of these. You don’t have to choose only one to whom you feel bad or show sympathy. You can be sympathetic to all of the people suffering because of these stupid wars. If you’re decent human being you’ll feel bad for dying people/children regardless of their race, nationality, ethnicity etc.

u/NumismaticAussie 8h ago

The people saying that don’t really care about the deaths of children. They make it obvious by not being upset about any deaths outside of Gaza, and instead trying to divert attention to Gaza. They also make it super obvious by cheering for the deaths of Israeli children. It’s a simple thing. They’re hateful people we need to ignore

My kid is 2 years old. Fuck Putin. She should be enjoying her life with those awesome teddies. My thoughts go out to the parents or any family members if they survived, which is sadly something you can make an assumption on either way, absolutely sickening.

This whole thing is so unbelievably senseless. And from the world's largest country trying to acquire some land because it's trying to rebuild an empire. Just completely senseless and depressing.

The opinion polls they take about things like this are known to be curated and also not anonymous. The people who disagree aren't going to write it down so it can get them thrown in jail, and do you really trust the Russian government to not just fluff up the numbers any way they like? How will you argue it, demand to see the paperwork lol?

I'm all for saying that the Russian government, the oligarchs, and Putin are absolute garbage (I'd say the same about my own country) but the ordinary people of Russia are the same as people everywhere. They work, take care of their families, struggle to get by, sometimes fall for the propaganda, and are generally trying their best to be good people and survive.

I hate it so much. This unending cruelty and how whole world is actually powerless to change this situation and stop this war.

While governments more and more opressive internally - there is still no working international laws which would prevent shit like this.

They attack civil area on purpose. Every russian soldier is a war criminal at this point, and their leader is the same level as Hitler was. They are not welcome in the rest of the world.

This war needs to end, but the leader of the "free world" is too busy shaking hands with dictators and fighting immigrants who just want to feed their families. What a joke.
