What do you know about... Andorra?

This is the twenty-seventh part of our ongoing series about the countries of Europe. You can find an overview here.

Todays country:

Andorra

Andorra is one of Europes smallest nations. The position of head of state of andorra is exercised by two people at once - the President of France and the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Urgell. Tourism is the most important part of the economy of Andorra.

  • Spain and France had a baby...

  • ...and it grew up to be an adorable tiny tax haven.

  • Official language is Catalan.

  • Around a third of the people are actually Andorran, the rest is French/Spanish/Portuguese. So only around a third can vote and stuff.

  • So my crazy backpacking brother passed through there a few years back. Dunked himself in some nice-looking stream... could have been this one, for all I know. Drank some of that water because "why not". Aaaand he had the runs all the way back to Croatia >:D

IIRC he was gone for a month or so. One day he's in Slovenia, then the next in Rome, then taking a ferry to Spain and so on.

I envy him a bit. I mean, I couldn't imagine sleeping in a bag, or on a bench... like some hobo. On the other hand, he's so much freer than I am, both in the amount of money he needs to travel, but also decisions - "huh that looks like an interesting side-trail, time to investigate" and so on.
