🖼 Fan Content / OC Eurovision countries by their longest Top 10 streak (SINCE 2004)

Post image

Currently we have a tie between Greece and Italy for the longest ever top 10 streaks. Greece had theirs from 2004 to 2011, however had Aphrodisiac (Greece 2012) placed top 10, their streak would have extended to 10 years in a row. Italy’s streak is currently ongoing and has been since Occidentali’s Karma (Italy 2017). I think it’s pretty likely that, unless some disaster occurs in Sanremo 2026, Italy will extend their streak and break the record. In terms of the other powerhouses, Ukraine is currently ongoing its longest top 10 streaks, with theirs starting with Shum (Ukraine 2021), while Sweden’s current streak is not its longest. Sweden’s 6-year streak was from 2014 to 2019, and they currently have a streak of 4, coming top 10 every year since Hold Me Closer (Sweden 2022). The only other currently participating countries with ongoing streaks greater than 1 year are France, Switzerland, and Israel. Which countries do you think could get long streaks in the near future?

Germany with the second longest streak out of the big 5 is truly surprising

Eurofans consistently ignore Germany's achievements and pretend that it is doing worse than Spain and the UK, when in reality Germany is doing better than them in just about any metric.

Since 2004, Germany has had a victory and four more Top10 results (4th, 8th, 8th, 10th).

Spain literally only had Chanel on 3rd and barely made it into the Top10 three times (10th, 10th, 10th).

The UK only had Sam Ryder and Jade Ewen, nobody else.

Germany's track record simply looks bad because it's absurdly good at collecting 25th-26th places, whereas Spain and the UK somehow manage to finish 24th most years.

Also we can add that Germany's record from the beginning of the televoting era from 1998 to 2003 was extremely good especially from a "Big 4" country (at the time Italy didn't take part in the contest, when they came back in 2011, they were included in the current "Big 5"). They had a streak of 4 Top 10 results (7th in 1998 / 3rd in 1999 / 5th in 2000 / 8th in 2001) and finished 11th in 2003 (only in 2002 they finished in the bottom five - 21st).

Only Spain managed to do nearly as good with a streak of 3 Top 10 results from 2001 to 2003 (6th in 2001 / 7th in 2002 / 8th in 2003) (not counting 2004 even though they also finished in the Top 10 - 10th - as I'm focusing on 1998 to 2003 period). Although before these great results, they had some poor results especially from 1998 to 2000 - 16th in 1998 / 23rd (last) in 1999 / 18th in 2000.

Even the UK who won in 1997 (but at the time it was not fully the televoting system which was used - although some countries had tested it) didn't do as the good in that period. Except a 2nd place finish in 1998 and a 3rd place in 2002, they had very average placement (12th in 1999 / 16th in 2000 / 15th in 2001) with the culmination of their infamous 2003 entry and their first ever last place finish with Nul points.

And finally France had the worse run out of the "Big 4" countries in that timespan (1998 to 2003) with three consecutive bottom 5 placement from 1998 to 2000 (24th / 19th / 23rd) before having a resurgence with back-to-back Top 5 finishes in 2001 & 2002 (4th & 5th) before having another tumble in 2003 - 18th.

TL;DR : So all in all even before 2004, Germany had a very underrated run and was the leading country of the "Big 4" at the time.
