We're getting closer to a Tommy Cash participating in Sanremo 🤌

(/joking)

joking?

u/No_Doubt_About_That Something 3d ago

If not for Italy, there’s always San Marino

13

u/SimoSanto 3d ago

Pretty sure that Conti is not going to select a foreign artist that brely know the language

3

u/LonelyTreat3725 3d ago

Wouldn't be the first time it happens in Sanremo.

0

u/SimoSanto 2d ago

At least they know they the language well enough to speak it interview, Tommy is not able to

1

u/LonelyTreat3725 2d ago

tbh in Sanremo we had even a japane singer who didn't speak italian at all.

At some point we even had songs in english competing. (madness)

1

u/SimoSanto 2d ago

Well, there is was not the current rules at the time, or the current media coverage

1

u/LonelyTreat3725 2d ago

The rules change basically every year,

2

u/SimoSanto 2d ago edited 2d ago

And in the last years all song needed to be in italian (and this year we will have the same director then last year), so it's obvious that an english competing song would not be allowed, and with all the media coverage and interview before and after the festival I aslo highly doubt that Conti would invite someone that don't know the language

Well the artistic director is the same of the last year and things already changed since last year ...(Sanremo Giovani is no longer "Sanremo Giovani"). Of course we will not have songs in english, it's just to say that rules change and having a foreign artist singing in italian it's not impossible at all.

We had Ana Mena just three years ago and her spanish accent was REALLY noticeable...

The usual journalists seeking a phantom internationality would prefer otherwise.

As if the names that are going around, like Tiziano Ferro, weren't.

3

u/LonelyTreat3725 3d ago

The "Tiziano Ferro in Sanremo" thing comes out every f year...

2

u/PraetorIt 2d ago edited 2d ago

Exactly, so there's no need to make even more so-called-news by bringing up an Estonian guy.

1

u/LonelyTreat3725 2d ago

Yeah but to be completely honest... Tiziano Ferro has just been hired by Sugar, so this year the "Tiziano Ferro in Sanremo" thing is more likely than ever...

He's taking THE italian twist seriously

12

u/TigerLily88 Espresso macchiato 3d ago

I love that he included the Nonnas from Ostuni! I already watched the music video a few times today.

6

u/Wasabismylife I treni di Tozeur 2d ago

I haven't listened to the song yet, but I opened the video and one of the first comment I saw was: from "Estonia to Ostuni" and for some reason it really made me laugh

u/Vivid_Guide7467 Kiss Kiss Goodbye 3d ago

I love him.

22

u/GenJohnnyRico 3d ago

Does this guy have Italian heritage or is he just some kind of italiaboo?

u/SimoSanto 3d ago

italiaboo

My favorite Italian superstar.

Reminded me of Fabio Rovazzi's stuff. It's very cute but also pretty inoffensive.

I’m waiting for the estonian version of “andiamo a comandare”

Love Tommy Love Nonnas Love Lionfield

Don't really love this song

His Italian gimmick has gone stale and boring already. It's time to move on.

u/Agamar13 3d ago

I loved Espresso Machiato but a joke is funny only the first time round.

Hard agree. Also, EM didn't have such painful kind of auto tune going on.

I need to know what the last line referencing UVZ means - has anyone else picked up on this?? Is it satire / purposeful reference to R*ssia?

Tired.

But why is this guy so obsessed with Italy? Imagine if Italians started making joke songs about Estonia, it'd be fucking weird lol I guess we got used to people meming us and stuff, but he is going all in huh?

He don't know how in Italy the music market works, if you're not a domestic name you hardly can hit a second time, and in fact no one cared about this song after the Espresso Macchiato wave passed, and a lot of people here only remember the original song and not even his name.

He didn't understand that in Italy only italian artists or big international superstars go in charts (EM was helped by the fact that was a future ESC song), a song in italian after ESC it's not even remotely enough to chart here, and in fact it's doing very poor

EDIT: for whoever is disliking the comment, if you're fan of him doesn not mean that you need to put him on a pedestal and wrongly convice yourself that is more famous than he actually is, this last song no one cared about (and the abismal number of streams show that), I also found it only thanks to this post, lmao

u/PraetorIt 3d ago

(EM was helped by the fact that was a future ESC song)

Hmm, he was helped by the understandable controversy he created. If some media had remained silent, I think very few would have considered him.

a song in italian after ESC

Well, as if the ESC song was in Italian.

3

u/SimoSanto 3d ago

yes, obviously it was media that helped him a lot, but if it was not the estonian song for ESC but a random song from Tommy Cash no media would have cared at the time
