⏪️ Throwback Thursday Stefania - Last Dance - LIVE - Greece 🇬🇷 - Grand Final - Eurovision 2021

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhZhJFp0vVw&list=RDQhZhJFp0vVw&start_radio=1

I decided to post this song for this week's Throwback Thursday since I thought the greenscreen effects were interesting. Stefania is a Greek-Dutch singer who represented the Netherlands at JESC 2016 as part of the girl group Kisses with the song "Kisses and Dancin" (8th place).

In 2020, she was selected by ERT to represent Greece at ESC with the song "Supergirl" (Greece 2020). "Last Dance" was her second song to represent Greece at ESC due to ESC rules requiring new songs for ESC 2021, and she finished in 10th place in the grand final with that song. Ever since then, Stefania has hosted Junior Songfestival (the selection show for Netherlands at JESC).

I have similar thoughts on the green screen, make me think it probably looked a little odd to see from the audience? Also mad cute wink before the chorus!

No one can tell me they didn't just recycle the props from Supergirl

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case since there were towers that would fit a superhero themed song.

Shout-out the dancers in the green costumes. No idea how hard it must have for them pull those dance moves off especially while blindfolded

I'm pretty sure they could see through the elastic headgear, sorta like bank robbers putting pantyhose over their heads.

This had me gagged, I watched it with a group of friends who originally complained that we were getting another ballad. When the song shifted and turned into a dance song it was like someone had won the lottery lmao

Honestly maybe I'm biased but I think this was overhated. No I don't think the green screen was cheesy and lame, I think it was kinda creative and cool, not to mention I really like the song (much better than Superg!rl imo). I'm glad she put us in the top 10 after so long :)

For me it wasn't just the fact that they used a green screen but what was put on the green screen. Like are we in early 2000's YouTube or something? It's like green screen 101 that the background you composit on the green screen should look like something that the subject in front of the green screen is actually in. But no it's just a generic neon city visualizer and Stefania and the dancers are just standing on an invisible platform completely independent of the background. It's like they just had the idea for the invisible dancers and literally put zero thought into any other part of the effect besides the fact that they need to wear green spandex suits.... Not to mention the fact that the keying (isolating the color green and replacing it with something else) just looked bad with shadows everywhere. Now sure that is due to the fact that live keying is just really really hard, but like was it really worth it to experiment with this technology if the results were just gonna look bad?

Mmmh, i don't know.. for me it's not even the green screen at all, it's the dance moves, imho they are terrible

What is that thing she is doing with her knees?

I just remember this as the very cute girl singing a song about dancing while ironically having an awful dance choreography.

Yeah, frankly those dance moves are 100% meme material.

I clocked from the music video that she wasn't a dancer and so I was kind of hoping they'd just let her focus on the vocals, give her an great flowy outfit and a wind machine, and have some crazy good backup dancers. Anyone can look like a good dancer in an outfit that does half of the job for you, plus the big ballad parts of the song would have really leant themselves to a big flowy toga dress and some big hair.

...to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. She did a decent enough job for someone who this clearly doesn't come naturally to, and once I'd got over the initial shock, the idea was fun, but the concept felt like it was designed for her 2020 Supergirl song - not this. The idea would have also worked far better with just the LED screens and dancers in regular outfits. Green screening them out and just having their clothes dance seems like an idea that came out of someone smoking too much weed during lockdown.

It was a mid song through and through, decently performed, and I don't find the green screen THAT bad, but I vastly prefer Supergirl

So glad she got to compete with this banger instead

The song was a banger, her vocals are great and my god look at her, she is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen, all without Instagram filters.

That staging though... just why. It got as far as it did despite the staging not because of it.
