💬 Discussion What do you think the chances are of Jann returning in next year's polish nf?

I know he became quite famous in Poland after gladiator. What do you think his chances are to try to go to ESC again?

given the amount of times he's said he's not interested in trying out for esc again I'd say it's a pretty low chance

When's the last time Jann said that? Erika Vikman said she'd not compete in UMK again after 2020, so I wouldn't put too much weight on this kind of statements

last time he explicitly said he wasn't going to try out again was october last year on polish tv, plus more recently during a radio interview in june he described esc at current as a "circus" in relation to israel's participation

so I'd say there's a sustained disinterest there

Jann’s situation is a bit different though. There were allegations of rigged voting and the jury specifically criticized his performance for being queer coded, so I would imagine that plus all the resulting drama on social media has soured him on entering another NF.

I don’t really follow his music but also, from what I understand, he’s become a massive name in Poland in the years since and might not feel like Eurovision would benefit his career as much as it would have in 2023.

Tbh he isn’t popular at all in Poland, maybe he has some fans, but I haven’t heard anything about him or his songs in the mainstream media.

  • wrote a song about the flaws of the music industry
  • lost due to the exact reasons he sang about
  • got big anyway
  • said he didn't wanna go again

he doesn't need it

Near zero, given how it went last time

From what I've heard from the people who follow him more closely, he's not really willing to try again, but I don't 100% believe it when artists say that. Yes, he had some... bad experiences. Yes, he doesn't really need Eurovision to thrive. now But at the same time (afaik) he is a working musician - so it's his actual career now. And if you work in entertainment for a job, you can't exactly throw opportunities away and be picky every time - unless, you're a true A-lister.

Basically, what I'm saying is that he's not interested now, but I will not be surprised at all when in 4-6 years we hear from him again, because he's willing to try once more - when the 2023 drama is long behind us and going to Eurovision feels like a good move.

It would be a bit ironic if he joined ESC after criticizing it, given that his song was - in general - about succumbing to the worst elements of the entertainment industry to become relevant and successful... but still.

i don't follow him, but assuming we're doing a NF next year - i really don't see him in it. if he's going to ever represent us in esc, i'm assuming it would be from an internal selection if anything.

also given the fact that awarding people with all connections and no talent is still something that's well and alive in polish music industry... who knows if he would even win that NF and not be robbed of an esc participation thanks to a nepo baby backed by a major label 💀💀

That was a thing of the past. If you’re polish I thought you’d know about TVP’s internal revamp and that it’s not so corrupt anymore.

Any Polish person know more about this article and what's being said? It details some claims the director of the 2016 Polish preselection made in a podcast:

https://allaboutmusic.pl/eurowizja-2016-tvp-nie-chcialo-dopuscic-michala-szpaka-do-preselekcji/

Looking this director up, he's clearly opposed to PiS (and aligned with Tusk's PO) and this isn't the only instance of him publicly calling out TVP for a lack of transparency, being PiS propaganda etc, but beyond potential political bias (though I suppose him suggesting the NFs have been rigged since before PiS took over would actually be "against" or atleast in spite of his political alignment?) I couldn't find anything about him that would make me question the validity of his claims highlighted in the article, and if those claims are true, then every Polish NF in a little while, even before PiS, has been rigged in some way or another, though I do believe 2025 finally broke that "tradition" and I really hope things remain that way...

I just find it weird I can't find anyone who's ever brought up this article on social media, though I have to admit I wasn't really active on ESC SM back in 2021. The claims made in this article seem pretty relevant to the 2022 and 2023 selections aswell...

Didn't they state that, for the next edition, the representative will be selected via X-Factor or something like that?

u/Revelistic Minn hinsti dans 2d ago

there was some vague caption teasing the next season of the voice of poland that "our eurovision 2026 representative might be in this studio" or something like that, but the reception to that has been rather negative so i think they'll eventually scrap that idea

u/sama_tak Zjerm 2d ago

They might tease that just because The Voice participants/winners often took part in the NF.

I doubt it but it would be great

Since when did he become big, last time I've heard about him was 2023.

Of course you didn't hear about him, Polish music industry is exactly as he described in Gladiator. He has bigger career than a lot of smaller Polish musicians - he has 571,457 monthly listeners on Spotify and ability to tour in the Europe/States with his own music. Meanwhile he doesn't get invitations to mainstream festivals and his music isn't playing on the radio.
