💬 Discussion What’s next for Sweden in Eurovision? 🇸🇪

This may be a bit of a "weird" post considering Sweden’s been doing amazingly well this decade, but hear me out.

Eurovision has become much more competitive lately, and I’m personally in the opinion that Loreen (Tattoo), Cornelia and Kaj were much stronger entries than the (still very good) entries they sent in between 2016 and 2019 after Mans won. I think their entries in the latter half the last decade would’ve struggled to get the same placements in this decade of Eurovision.

Tusse, and dare I even say by extension Marcus and Martinus, have proven that also Sweden is "vulnerable" at this point and not necessarily guaranteed to do amazingly well with such entries.

I think they’ve pulled some incredible entries out of the bag so far with Loreen, Cornelia and Kaj, but I question if they’re gonna be able to keep it up this decade, or if the "male pop formula" is gonna continue and leave them at risk of not doing well (outside the top 10).

Lol, Sweden got top 10 in a year (2024) when they did anything they could to do bad at a point of self sabotaging..

Thats' not really a sign of "sweden is at risk of not doing well"

I was just using 2024 as a reference. 9th is obviously a good result, but at the same time not that far away from missing out on the top 10

Frankly, 9th while self sabotaging with the choice of being first in the running order is more impressive than getting a top 5 in normal conditions.

Forgive me, but wasn’t them going first in the running order by draw?

No, not by draw.

They chose to go first by themselves

And the draw doesn't even set the running order position, only first half, second half or "producers choice"

Not true. They drew a random number out of a bag, and it just so happened that they drew number 1 in the running order.

The host of the contest draws their position separately from everyone so it's random e.g. to avoid any bias from the organizers who might give themselves a favorable spot. Also, it happens months before the contest - meanwhile other participants draw when they'll perform right after each semi-finals end.

Here's an article from last year talking about Sweden being 1st in the RO and you can see that it was posted mid-March (I assume right after the NF season ended).

That's wrong on many levels, they draw a random number from a bag (in their case 1), they didn't choose anything, and also the draw with the halfs and prod. choice is a separate draw that happens months later for all the countreis aside from the host, you are mixing things.

Didn’t know that.

But Ukraine got over 300 points from slot #2. And no, their great televote score definitely didn’t boil down to only diaspora/war

They didn't choose the start 1st, the number is random, LonelyTreat confused the 2 draws.

And that makes a top10, running 1st in the order just before a televote favourite, even more impressive...

The point is, Svt did everything they could not to win and still arrived top 10...

Svt did everything they could not to win

But did they really? It's not like the production was cheap. They put actual effort/money into the staging, so it didn't look any cheaper than in other years. And I feel like Marcus and Martinus were promoted just as much as other participants. I'm not even a huge fan of that song, but I wouldn't say it was sabotaged to look bad.

Also, I don't feel like they even needed to sabotage anything. It's not like "Unforgettable" was ever in danger of winning and even people who love that entry would probably admit that.

(And, like I've mentioned in other comment, the RO slot was random. They didn't put themselves 1st on purpose. It was just a weird coincidence.)
