It's just embarrassing to be an American, with morals, these days.

293

u/LordTinglewood 7d ago

It really is a burden these days to have enough awareness to feel embarrassment. People like us have to feel embarrassed for those who lack the same awareness.

I don't know about you, but I'm pulling overtime to feel enough embarrassment to cover for maga and the other unembarrasables.

Your time will come.

Edit: To those confused, let me say, OUR time will come. Tyranny, bigotry and a general disdain for humanity doesn't and cannot persevere. That's what makes us human.

The need to feel good about ourselves, the need to be better than yesterday, the need to be there for our fellow human.

Fuck Fascism. Hopefully this is explicit enough.

u/M3RV-89 7d ago

I can't tell if this is a threat or a promise of hope lol

103

u/shiny_glitter_demon 7d ago

It's both. Depending on the side you're on.

History will judge MAGA harshly.

57

u/ansaonapostcard 7d ago

The one thing about MAGA is that if the facts don't match their reality, they'll make up their own. I think history will be split between those able to follow actual events and those only able to follow a narrative that is supported by their own bias.

40

u/shiny_glitter_demon 7d ago

The rest of the world is keeping records

26

u/Crazy_System8248 7d ago

Please do. Hopefully these fucks will start phasing out permanently and we can return to sanity. It's so depressing over here.

4

u/hurricaneRoo1 7d ago

Great! Help us by electing politicians who aren’t spineless morons who will kowtow to Trump.

5

u/72camaroguy 7d ago

That, and with todays media, social and otherwise, it will be impossible to rewrite the narrative. Everybody will have receipts.

7

u/mercasio391 7d ago

That’s exactly what happened with a bunch of the axis power’s populations after WW2, but the vast majority of the world, outside of extremist circles all agree now on the majority of how it was and how it went.

9

u/Millefeuille-coil 7d ago

Well can history hurry the fuck up already.

3

u/smegsicle 7d ago

Naaah. Once MAGA's done with America, y'all won't be able to spell history.

8

u/shiny_glitter_demon 7d ago

Don't "y'all" me. The rest of the world exists. We are keeping records.

2

u/Sandman64can 7d ago

This could be a positive statement or an ominous threat.

14

u/James_099 7d ago

It’s embarrassing to be an American right now, period. I’m so ashamed of my country.

34

u/Mcboatface3sghost 7d ago

It’s actually physically painful to me.

7

u/perseidot 7d ago

Not to mention an education. Or knowledge of history.

3

u/LoudNoises89 7d ago

It’s embarrassing bc they our making us look more dumb that everyone thinks we are. Other countries already didn’t like the US but now they probably think they can get away with anything bc we don’t know how to do anything anymore.

5

u/i_wap_to_warcraft 7d ago

More embarrassing for them tbh

2

u/theman102 7d ago

I'm Canadian and I get second hand embarrassment

2

u/Laura9624 7d ago

He's thinking of what led to ww2. Agreeing to let Germany have part of Czechoslovakia. Germany of course invaded the rest anyway.

2

u/texachusetts 7d ago

Don’t tell me immigrants are ALIENS, when you’re spouting weirdly wrong stuff like this. It is hard to think of a more skin bag take on American history. Saying “hamburgers are made from pork” wouldn’t be as culturally clueless.

I am beginning to think an Ivy League education isn't worth all that much

372

u/journeymanSF 7d ago

I have an Ivy League education. It was a weird mix of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met who worked their asses off to get there, many whom I’m still lifelong friends with, and some of the dumbest people I’ve ever met.

Not all bad people, but I remember some kids at Penn, and just thinking, Ive met this guy before, but he works in my hometown at the gas station and sold me weed. Same person, just different circumstances.

Really put into perspective how some people can just coast their entire lives. No real worries, always unlimited family money to fall back on. Money buys everything, degrees, presidencies, more money.

Ivanka was in my class. Trump also went there. Btw, neither of them “went to Wharton.” That specifically means you have a graduate degree from the Wharton business school. They both have undergrad degrees from UPenn, just like me, and none of us “went to Wharton”.

I’m in my 40s, still paying off my loans, and I operate arcade and pinball games for a living…. So yeah, super worth it. Jokes aside, I’m doing exactly what I want to be doing.

66

u/unkyduck 7d ago

My mate spends his retirement days restoring and upgrading his extensive collection of vintage pinball machines to LEDs. A nice mix of kluging mechanics and electro-tinkering

38

u/msprang 7d ago

Hey, you're keeping a dying art alive! I have to drive 70 miles to get to a real arcade.

or marines either apparently

38

u/Significant_Swing_76 7d ago

Crayons are obviously not as nourishing as I thought.

13

u/UmbertoEcoTheDolphin 7d ago

They do, however, exceed your daily wax nutritional requirements.

13

u/raimichick 7d ago

Hey leave us out of it 😂

21

u/usaf5 7d ago

Show me a marine didnt eat crayons and ill show you JD Vance

15

u/UnholyAbductor 7d ago

Homie got the instructions wrong and shoved them up his nose instead of chowing down on them.

Hence all these brain damaged takes.

2

u/Gseph 7d ago

I hear he sneezed them all out, except the blue one.

2

u/raimichick 7d ago

My favorite crayon is dark green.

2

u/Previous_Channel 7d ago

Both the Marines and History taking a real hit here

9

u/Mcboatface3sghost 7d ago

Ain’t about the learnin, it be about dat connectionish things.

3

u/UnionizedTrouble 7d ago

He would have learned this in Middleton, Ohio. They’re not teaching WWII in law school.

My grandma lived there. She was a teacher elsewhere and retired there on her pension because the cost of living was low. The schools… were not good.

2

u/OkWolverine69420 7d ago

It is still valuable to people who have morals, ethics, and use their degrees to better themselves and their communities.

The problem is that it’s just as valuable to grift, lie, steal, and commit crimes daily like MAGA does.

The only way for them to protect their standards of education is to revoke degrees when people like JD spew this filth. Same with people like Ted Cruz, and the entire Republican Party who lies as easily as they breathe.

That’s just another problem that some of these schools are bending the knee to Trump. So they’re devaluing themselves as an institution just as much as people like Vance are.

2

u/pbrart2 7d ago

My ex has an Ivy League education and a trust fund. It doesn’t mean shit. They basically just gave her a diploma because of the trust fund

2

u/Chaz_Cheeto 6d ago

Nah, he’s just corrupt. His job when he enlisted was to be a propagandist to spin the Iraq war. He told journalists what they thought they should hear. If you remember that little snafu they hit with those text message leaks, his role wasn’t to manage the situation, his role was figuring out how to spin the decisions (“this is about freedom of navigation.”).

4

u/Justgototheeffinmoon 7d ago

This has nothing to do with education. It’s ideology and propaganda and nothing else

63

u/No-Appearance1145 7d ago

Hes poorly educated. That's why Trump wanted him as VP!

Proof law degree, even from Yale, doesn't make you smart.

7

u/Ladydi-bds 7d ago

My thought as well.

12

4

u/Drudgework 7d ago

All the people that forgot that the allies still had to negotiate amongst themselves and with Russia to determine who got what land and where the war trials were going to be held at the end of the war before all the treaties were signed? Like at the Yalta Conference for example? Or the negotiations that took place with countries allied to the Axis, like the Paris peace conference? I’ll grant you that Vance is more technically correct and not contextually correct, but he is still correct even if it isn’t for the right reasons.

2

u/CustomerSupportDeer 7d ago

TO BE FAIR (and I really don't like to say this), but technically, WW2 ended with Japan's surrender after negotiations. The US did have to forebomb the entire islands and drop two suns on them, but the end result were negotiations, not forced through complete destruction of the japanese state and cities.

4

u/RhoOfFeh 7d ago

He was too busy trying to decide what kind of lunch to order.

83

u/Smintjes 7d ago

I wouldn’t have expected more from a couch fucker.

17

u/RupertHermano 7d ago

I would be asking that couch to swallow me after a gaff like this... Oh, no, wait, that's not what I meant.

5

u/TobyFromH-R 7d ago

“Hey! You gonna go fuck a couch buddy?!” That guy is a hero

204

u/Duanedoberman 7d ago

If your enemies leader blows his brains out because he has been utterly defeated, that is not a negotiation. it's trying to surrender in the best way to stop further slaughter once the mad men have gone.

105

u/Brilliant-Ad6137 7d ago

Neither Germany nor Japan negotiated a peace deal. They only stopped because they were utterly defeated. So if we are now going by WW2 outcome. Then we should give Ukraine everything they need and more to utterly defeat Russia.

36

u/Mcboatface3sghost 7d ago

He knows that, he’s a liar but has no charisma. Shit I could show a 3rd grader a 45 minute YouTube video on what happened and they would understand, and I spent years studying it.

16

u/spavolka 7d ago

Anyone in the United States, who has taken an history test from middle school on, has read the term “unconditional surrender”. These fuckers that surround Trump are an unconditional embarrassment.

8

u/Mcboatface3sghost 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yup, ya see Japan didn’t want to surrender and we knew a land battle would cost close to a million American lives, so we nuked ‘em. Germany on the other hand had to deal with a fuck ton of really pissed off Russians that wanted pure vengeance, and oh boy… they got it and not in a good or fun kinda way. When the Ally’s were like “dude? Wtf!?” Stalins response was more or less, “boys will be boys”.

They scared Patton so bad he begged Eisenhower and Truman to go in to USSR while there was some weakness so we wouldn’t have to deal with them later…

Scaring Patton? That’s pretty wild. Stalins greatest quote IMO… “1 death is a tragedy, 1 million is a statistic”.

10

u/Lifesucksgod 7d ago

Except trump is pro Russia

11

u/perseidot 7d ago

Trump is pro- getting mineral rights out of Ukraine (and profiting off that personally.)

He was also compromised by Putin and the KGB back in the 1980’s, and he’s been digging himself in deeper ever since then.

This iteration won't even last as long as their previous one.

They've convinced a lot of ignorant and gullible people that were desperate for help that their lies were going to come true.

The economy has only gone the other direction since January and inflation is back with downward pressure on employment.

This is all going to blow up in Republican's faces in the not too distant future.

u/idonotknowwhototrust palming face for 30 years now 7d ago

The negotiation was between Hitler's gun and his head.

49

u/Skrabalas 7d ago

Frankly, there was a negotiation at the end if WW2. Between FDR, Churchill and Stalin. A negotiation of pie (or planet) carving. In Yalta. And then, half a year later, between Truman, Churchill and Stalin in Potsdam.

Much like trump and putin are negotiating carving up of Ukraine currently, disregarding interests of Ukraine or Europe.

26

u/Rocketparty12 7d ago

A negotiation among victors for a post-war world. There was no negotiations between the Allies and Axis powers. Very much unlike “negotiations” between Trump and Putin where the aggressor nation is imposing terms on a nation that they invaded.

3

u/MashJDW 7d ago

I was thinking the same thing. The war DID end with negotiations. But not BECAUSE of negotiations. I don't want to play devil's advocate for this guy, but technically what he said isn't wrong. What he meant is another story.

JD "Just Dance" Vance.

Isn't there a song called "shutup and dance", he should try that.

2

Our negotiating strategy was the complete destruction of Germany and nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

7

4

u/ResponsibleBank1387 7d ago

It fits his history, innocent Americans were imprisoned for their skin tone, property confiscated.  He also believes the War Between the States was about something not slavery.

3

u/Financial_Cheetah875 7d ago

That will be in the new Smithsonian WWII exhibit.

3

u/Realistic_Let3239 7d ago

He's just upset his side lost WW2, shame they rose to power in another country nearly 100 years later.

3

3

u/Fubeman 7d ago

JFC, can we have just ONE reporter, just ONE clap back during an interview like this and say “Actually no. WW2 did NOT end with a negotiation sir. That is false.” Instead they just move on to the next question. How freaking hard is that? It’s your damn job to correct liars on crap like this. All they do is give a one way podium for liars people like this and do nothing but act like a megaphone for them. Do your god damn job!

2

u/Mcboatface3sghost 7d ago

He’s not dumb, he’s just full of shit, knows he’s full of shit and is way too comfortable being full of shit. Maybe he could pull that shit on some Fox News show, but “face the nation” or “meet the press” Sunday circuits won’t work. These programs are for the politically astute. He has the charisma of the venomous sea slug they just found.

If people buy his bullshit, the people that watch Sunday political programs? Then we are even more fucked than I thought, and I think we are pretty fucked.

Am I the only one oddly fascinated with these people that so easily lie and deny reality?

Hey, Hitler agreed to commit suicide to help end the war in Europe and Japan agreed to have two civilian populations nuked.

I’m fully prepared to concede that Zelenskyy should come to the negotiating table when Putin is in a similar position.

2

u/Double_Distribution8 7d ago

Were there not negotiations? Like, weren't there talks and deals? Like, didn't Japan get to keep their emperor? And the Nazis got to work on the American space programs?

To be fair, I didn't read the article, as is the way. Maybe he made a worse blunder.

2

u/Dust-Different 7d ago

“You cannot wake a person who is pretending to be asleep.”

2

u/bberkjr2 7d ago

World war 2 had negotiations at the end...granted mostly dictation by the Allies.

2

u/CustomerSupportDeer 7d ago

TO BE FAIR (and I absolutely hate that I have to defend this pos)

Technically, the last major combat of WW2 was between Japan and the US, which technically did end via negotiated surrender.

Yes, it was after the US dropped two nukes on Japan. But those were also the only nukes the US had, and bluffed to be dropping "a nuke every day" to demoralize the Japanese. Luckily, they believed it.

The alternative would have been further firebombings of japanese cities, and US troops having to set boots on the japanese mainland, fighting in the streets. And if anyone knows anything about the japanese during WW2, they would absolutely fight to the last man, who would then commit suicide.

All in all, the US was quite lucky, and technically managed to end the war with diplomacy.

Yes, JD vance is correct. . The red army did some kinetic negotiations in Berlin and then hoisted the red flag from the Reichstag.

Then a few months later good ole' uncle Sam did some fissile negotiations in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Very diplomatic, most successful negotiations end in extreme levels of violence and unconditional surrender.

Is he suggesting that either of these two options should be tried in Kyiv?

Idiot.

We do realize that both theatres of WW2 ended with surrender NEGOTIATIONS right?

I mean "surrender or die" is a type of negotiation.

MAGA are not students of history. We are repeating 1900 to 1945. Frump is Prime minister Chamberlain with Putin. Keep appeasing the aggressor, eventually the stop invading other countries. /s

Someone should have a conversation with him then.

Also point out that Germany didn’t keep the land it had taken either. They were forced to give that back since they were the aggressor.

To be fair, unconditional surrender" is what his boss is trying to negotiate...

I have a feeling that Trump will end up negotiating in the same way Hitler did in his bunker

1

u/AandM4ever 7d ago

Everyone is excited to hear Trump is probably not going to live until the end of his term…

But then they forget that means THIS MOTHERFUCKER will take over!

I cannot believe this article quotes Grok's response to a user on Twitter as if it's a source the author interviewed. Dear God.

This is why it’s important to be smart, educated, and have a broad education that covers historical events. Leaders like Trump and Vance make shit decisions and have shit views because they don’t truthfully know about the world they live in.

Such negotiations as, how much to care what happened to the corpses of a sick old dictator and his retinue after they offed themselves rather than face consequences?

Or where the war crimes trials should be held? I'm all for such negotiations.

I think people in positions of power realize they can say whatever and Americans are just there to listen and pay their tarifs and taxes. Nothing has to be real or even makes sense. Americans will gobble everything up

Did any of these idiots ever make it through high school ?
