Simple idea

Here’s a mellow idea that starts with a one-finger melody on the D string, floating over open E minor. Then we shift into a three-finger Am7 to Am6 move that I personally like and use every now and then.

Thank you! I have made one little piece that has similar idea but it's more advanced. Here's the link if you want to listen it. https://youtu.be/Z1GFG0Bg2fc?si=9nk06CdtdqbzyknF

dude that am7 to am6 move is such a vibe. i stole something similar from a bossa nova track years ago and now i throw it into literally everything lol

the one finger melody thing over open strings is honestly underrated as hell. everyone wants to shred these days but some of the best fingerstyle moments come from just letting strings ring out while you do something simple on top. reminds me of this old tommy emmanuel workshop where he spent like 20 minutes just talking about how much mileage you can get from open string drones

your piece in that link sounds clean btw. that harmonics section around 1:30 is nasty in the best way possible

You're on point here! I have spent a lot of my time playing and learning complex things. I'm also grateful to myself for doing that, but lately, after listening to meditation music, my own playing has shifted towards more restrained harmonies and melodies. Playing in that way really makes you think differently — even feel and breathe differently.
