Training opportunities
I just got back from our State Fire school. We had two and a half days of classes, networking, and water fights. I know what my state, district, and department have available for trainings. What do the rest of you have for training opportunities where you live, and do you take advantage of them?

We have a fire academy run by the county and numerous other departments in the county that will host formal classes everything from cpr and first aid to advanced tech rescue and hazmat technician courses all available for signup through the county fire academy website.
Say my department wants to do a formal course. The county would usually provide an instructor with a lesson plan, we would provide the facilities and any support. We might have 10-15 of our own guys for several weekends or evenings do the course and we might have 5-10 guys from other departments attending too.
Our department has two trainings a week, Monday and Wednesday nights, but we might try to change one to a Saturday morning. Usually a couple of months one of those trainings will be a live burn or major scenario run by county or other department instructors.
