That looks very cool. I've been to a few in the Southern Sierras. Very scenic.

You know that’s illegal. To do this you are considered a “federal employee” either a green card owner or citizenship

what are they gonna do? bring immigration officer to a middle of a forest?

Haha maybe, never know these days. I think under your current circumstance it would be very difficult to obtain a lookout job without proper documents.

It's a volunteer job. I am not sure if there are any citizenship requirements, I was never asked for anything related to my citizenship.

How challenging was it to apply and get accepted for this kind of job in the States? I live in a fairly rural part of BC, but I never can seem to find any lookout jobs each season (it's been about two seasons of looking now). Also, did you happen to take any specific training or courses prior to starting this position?

this seems so friggin sweet, did you have to reserve the place beforehand or did u just hike up to it hoping nobody was already staying at the place I’m super curious, you said you manned it so did you do some actual firewatch job duties while up there?

It is an active lookout, operated by volunteers each day during the warmer months from 0730-1730.

We have to sign up a few weeks in advance for our shifts. We are trained in operation of the lookout and smoke/fire reporting. As a bonus, we get to stay in the cab for the evening after the lookout goes out of service at 1730.

Most of my day was spent giving tours to visitors and answering lots of fun questions.

If you want to get involved, contact your local Forest Fire Lookout Association (https://firelookout.org/)

I'm happy to answer any additional questions you have. ☺️
