This is an album of me singing and playing fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I used a condenser microphone to record all in single takes. These are original compositions that I hope produce a certain uneasy warmth in your head.

Khalil sheikh

Upvotes

Khalil Sheikh was born in the city of Khaf, Khorasan, Iran, in one of the most culture-loving and musical family.

Since his childhood, like most of the musicians whose music is inherited in their family, he inherited playing dotar from his grandfather and his mother. His grandfather, had a gentle voice and was following the traditional music of the country so that he had benefited from Khorasan and was fully familiar with region’s music, His mother also has a good voice, and Khalil grew up in such an environment.

New indie-folk song written in the garden, recorded in a caravan studio 🌿🎶

Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my latest song Flow. I wrote it one morning in my garden here in Burgundy, then recorded it in a 1970s caravan I converted into a small studio.

The song is about grounding, openness, and that creative state where everything just clicks into place.

Would love to hear what you think.

Thanks for listening.

Looking for similar albums

Lately nothing else seems to scratch that itch. I'm looking for more music with that pastoral, melodic sound of Cardamom Times and Parallelograms. The kind of sound that takes you back to holidays in the countryside. Sounds like love, nature, etc... I feel like Cardamom Times is one of a kind, but might as well try and look for something that comes close.

My friend Hudson Freeman has been blowing up lately, so I wanted to reshare one of my favorite moments in my music career, when we duetted his song "Warm Me, Winter." Still one of my favorite memories.

Looking to get into folk, where should I start?

Hey everyone,

I've been wanting to explore folk music but feel kind of overwhelmed. The only reference point I really have is liking the whimsical, atmospheric sound of Of Monsters and Men. Outside of that, my tastes are all over the place - J-rock (Radwimps), metal (Galneryus), and even film soundtracks from Malayalam movies.

What would you recommend as good entry points into folk? Specific artists, albums, or even playlists that capture that magical/whimsical vibe would be amazing.

Thanks!

Jackson C Frank

this is Jackson C Franks self titled and only album from 1965. It was recorded in one afternoon in London by Paul Simmon.

Jackson was born in buffalo new York in 1943 and lived one of the saddest and tragic life's in music history. When he was 11 he was involved in an elementary school fire which killed 15 classmates, this left him covered in burns with months of recovery and a lifetime of PTSD. A teacher gave him a guitar to help him and he ended up playing it for the rest of his life.

After an insurance payout Jackson moved to London for the folk book where he recorded his first and only album. While there he fell in love and married his wife, the marriage failed after their only child died from cystic fibrosis. After this his mental health spiralled worse and he went back to new York.

While in new York he walked down the street with a bb gun which police mistook for a real firearm, resulting in him getting shot in the face and loosing sight in his eyes. Jackson then spiralled into schizophrenia and alcoholism before his death in 1999 from pneumonia.

A playlist for Folk music fans who want to discover new artists!

Post image

Hello Folk music lovers! I’ve been curating an (Indie) Folk playlist that I would like to share with you. The playlist is all about new Folk music and upcoming new Folk artists.

I started the playlist out of frustration with the Spotify algorithm, which kept serving me more of the same. Furthermore, many popular Folk-inspired playlists are (partially) owned by major labels who only include their own signings, which drastically limits the selection.

For my Indie Folk Boutique playlist the selections are based on love for the music, not contractual obligations or marketing purposes. I scour the internet for hours every week to find new releases and hidden gems. No algorithms, just pure handpicked discovery. You’d be surprised how much good music you can find off the radar!

I also include household (Indie) Folk artists like Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, The Lumineers, Paper Kites etc. but first and foremost the playlist is meant as a platform for new and lesser-known artists to be discovered.

You can find the playlist here:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Cwvhff570yGShclzqQVe5?si=79264fb5d06748c8

I hope that you enjoy the playlist and may you discover some good new music in there!
