Why aren't more teams in for Wissa?
19 goals and 5 assists last season alone, and can play across the front 3 positions if not left wing and upfront
I haven't watched him closely but it's hard to not notice him often pop up with a goal
main negatives are that he's going to turn 29 and has afcon coming up, but his contract expires next summer so he should be relatively cheap
Obviously Newcastle are in for him, but still weird that he's not even seen as a good squad player for most teams

If you look at the prem specifically, almost everyone has already gotten a striker.
Arsenal : Gyokeres
Chelsea: Pedro and Delap
Liverpool: Ekitike (also in for Isak)
United: Sesko
Forest: Igor Jesus
Then on top of it the other 2 big spenders have multiple strikers, City has Marmoush and Haaland. Spurs have Richy and Solanke.
Newcastle and Villa being the only 2 other teams that could be considered a step up, one is in for him and the other might be but has other needs and not a ton of room to spend.

I would say Spurs would benefit from Wissa

If they were ready to give up on Solanke then I think they would be in for him. But too much was spent on him to just drop him after a year.

Every potential Spurs transfer has a risk of the player vetoing because it’s Spurs

fair, you'd imagine some foreign clubs wouldn't mind a punt tho

u/hauttdawg13 6d ago
At 29 with a £50m price tag? That eliminates all but the top teams who wouldn’t be in for Wissa.

u/andrewkam 5d ago
You’d imagine but I failed to think of a single foreign club that can afford Wissa who doesn’t already have someone as good or better in the squad.

He’s miles ahead of tottenhams front two, they’re dire
2
u/hauttdawg13 4d ago
Maybe so, but you can also add Tel to that list. While Wissa may be better than all of them, they have 3 strikers and 1 CAM. It just isn’t a need. At 50m it just makes 0 sense to go after Wissa.

He’s 29 and Brentford put up a big price tag on him because they already lost many important players on top of their manager.
14
u/Limp_Guidance_5357 6d ago
Because Brentford want £50million for him

u/timeofdepth 6d ago
good price for 19 goals in the prem

u/CheddarCheese390 6d ago
At 29, you’re at best guaranteed 2 seasons of form tho
-5
u/timeofdepth 6d ago
a good two seasons can make a lot of difference to a club tho
15
u/CheddarCheese390 6d ago
What big clubs can spare 50m, and need him for two seasons?
It has to be a “big” club financially, but smaller on the pitch-basically Newcastle

29 Afcon Only really had one very good year
Career wise he is about a goal every 3 games. Which is ok. Talk of 40m seems a bit nuts to me

u/timeofdepth 5d ago
he's had one very good year on top of several good years relative to his minutes and especially relative to brentford's stature
if you go by minutes rather than apps he's on around 240 rather than 343, so quite quickly his 107 goals and 37 assists become quite impressive, especially as he's never playing for world beaters
prem alone he's got 45 goals and 13 assists in 8,310 minutes which is 93 games. that's impressive for anyone, let alone someone who plays for brentford

u/SanSilver 5d ago
The price is still extremely high. Only the top 6 Prem teams would seriously be interested in 50m for a 29-year-old.

Fair enough.
I just think if you are paying a lot of money for a 29 year old, I would be looking for better.
3
u/FaizReady 6d ago
cuz brentford are reluctant to sell unless a good price comes in and wissa had to do an Isak for brentford to actually start taking offers seriously
5
u/3threeLions 6d ago
I was hoping that we(Manchester United) would have gone in for him.
8
u/Suudriusha 6d ago
We got Mbeumo from them, and that was hard enough. Brentford are though negotiators.

Newcastle wants him, so I imagine he'll be playing for Spurs by the end of the window.

50mil price tag and seems like every team is planning for the future and not just the next season by getting a younger striker.. Also, Newcastle werent interested until Isak start to rebel and ManUtd cockblocking them...

u/Choice_Room3901 5d ago
I presume it’s something to do with how he’s not guaranteed to immediately hit the ground running at a new club, sometimes even really good players just don’t quite hit the mark at new clubs, Torres from Liverpool to Chelsea for example, maybe Sanchez to Man U, Lukaku perhaps.
And also he’s 29 so basically no re sell value if he’s expensive which he is, so very pricey for a player with likely not great re sell value at best, who might not even be any good. Also it seems that a lot of clubs are fairly happy with their attack at the moment anyway.
1
u/lordconcorde 5d ago
He doesn't have much resale value, and I'm not sure if he would be as productive without Mbuemo alongside him. I think the price tag on him is too much.

u/ddbbaarrtt 5d ago
Transfers happen in two ways:
- a player would like to leave his club and the sharks circle
- a play would like to leave his club and has a preferred destination, often an agreement in principle with them
In scenario two other clubs would often be made to try and hijack it as it’s just a matter of time

u/Declooon 5d ago
There have been reports of bids from Forest and Newcastle as well as reports that Spurs wanted him as well. That’s 3 good prem sides.
1
u/PandiBong 5d ago
Because the premier league tax is out of control, he's closing in on 30 and ain't that good. He got a lot of goals last season but I could see him flopping hard as Newcastle.
1
u/Ok-Razzmatazz8428 5d ago
Telstar already have a striker. So they probably are not interested. And maybe he is a bit too expensive.
1
u/Dopeistimeless 5d ago
If he was 2 years younger there would’ve more in for him + 50M will no one pa

The team is reluctant to sell.
So all you get from the pursuit is paying well over the odds for a player and that's if you can even get him.
1
u/Simon170148 5d ago
I think he's overpriced at £50m but that's brentford's prerogative whilst he's contracted to them. With pace being a major part of his game, he's at an age where he may well have already peaked

my main memories of him are of him getting through on goal and then wasting good chances, like many many times

u/Noursrollercoaster2 4d ago
Because he's nearly 30 and Brentford want a hefty fee for him given they have lost many key players already this window. Plus he's a bit limited technically imo but that's another discussion.
1
u/Primary-Cancel-3021 2d ago
Because he’s 29 in two weeks and whilst a good Premier league proven striker they want 50million plus.
But as Newcastle fans like to say “just pay the asking price” if you want him I suppose.

They're just waiting for Newcastle to finalise the price.
