Advice Needed My periods make me feel unstable about the idea of transition
Hi, I’m a 17 year old AFAB person. I usually feel really dysphoric about being a girl, but whenever I get my periods it changes.
I remember feeling really uneasy about living the rest of my life as a girl 2 days ago. After that, I had my period. I started crying about not being like a princess and not being girly enough yesterday night. I don’t know, maybe it’s my hormones acting up but its really annoying to experience. I wanna be sure about what I will be doing with my life since I’ll be turning 18 next year. I really appreciate any sort of advice

Thats totally your hormones talking but thats okay! If you’re constantly dysphoric outside of your periods, I think you might be trans. If you’re able to and it’s safe enough, start doing little things to make yourself more masculine (ex. Cutting your hair, wearing clothes for men, etc.) and see if it feels more comfortable/alleviates your dysphoria.

not to me, but that happens to my husband!! he’s very comfortable being a nonbinary person and has been for a decade, but sometimes he’ll find himself doubting his identity… and then he realizes it’s hormonal 😅

Try to look at the big picture than just your feelings over the past few days.
For example: If you cry a few tears for 20 minutes a week, it's pretty normal. If you nonstop sob for an hour every single day, you might be depressed.
Basically, it's important to look at the frequency of your dysphoric thoughts, the amount of distress they cause and how long such thoughts have persisted. This should give you a better assessment of any gender dysphoria and whether to take steps to treat it.
