Live voting for game jams?

Hi everyone! I’m an organizer and jam admin of the Indie Den Godot Jam that just ended yesterday. This is our first jam and we got 29 submissions! We are holding a livestream to play the games and vote on a winner this Saturday, but we want the community in the stream to be able to vote live for their favorite game. What platform or method do you all recommend to achieve this!? My first idea was to create a Kahoot! Quiz and have it be one question with multi-select answer so you can pick the games you liked. Answer with most tallys wins. Any thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you :)

Motion Control Jam #1: Wiimote!

Hello! I would like to introduce the Motion Control jam, a brand-new game jam series where you get to experiment with motion control in PC games. Think of the thrill of a perfect swing in Wii Sports, the rush of exercising with Ring Fit Adventure, or the rhythmic fun of Beat Saber. These games show that motion controls can make game play feel alive when done well. Now it’s your turn to push controllers in bold and inventive ways!

For this first edition, we pay tribute to the humble Wii Remote, the controller that made its way into millions of homes, bringing motion controls to the masses. Your challenge is to take this familiar controller and create control schemes that feel clever, intuitive, and fun, using its unique sensor data and form factor in ways that go beyond the infamous Waggle.

I myself maintain an extension for Godot to interface with the Wiimote, so I'm super excited to see what people come up with! If you're interested in this niche of developing PC games using the Wii remote as an input method beyond the jam, feel free to join our discord!

what happened to the poppenkast?

for those of you who dont know, the poppenkast was a tight-knit group of indie gamedevs who made games in tiny amounts of time, like 2 or 3 hours. this community included the future devs of nuclear throne and nidhogg, so they were big names. the thing is, this was in like 2009-2014. I stumbled across it in the legendary game a week article by cofounder of vlambeer, rami ismail. and through a lot of digging, all ive found is this singular eurogamer article:https://www.eurogamer.net/inside-the-poppenkast-indies-idyll

i would very much like to know whats going on here. this will be reposted in other subreddits, btw.

Game-like Jam #005 starts Sept 1st - And it will be spooky

6 times a year, for 1 full month each time, the Game-like Jam challenges you to make a game like another game.

https://itch.io/jam/gamelike-jam-005

Personally I've struggled with losing track of the size of my games. So this jam was started to make understanding scope easier, by providing the scope upfront.

Since there's no jam in October, we're doing a horror game theme this time around.

Come finish a game alongside myself and other Game-like jammers over the next month! Then you'll have a scary game ready for halloween haha

(Also sorry about the super speedy video editing, I need some practice at that)

Need help for my thesis: competitive game jams impacts

Hello everyone! I'm a Game Development master student, exploring how the voting/ranking system and prizes in competitive game jams impact participants for my dissertation. I kindly invite you who has competitive game jam experience to participate in a survey that will take approximately 15 - 20 mins for my dissertation. Your participation will be kindly appreciated.

All responses will be kept anonymous and you can withdraw at any time, data used only for academic research.

To complete the survey, you should have participated in at least 1 competitive game jam.

The link to the survey:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfdF5l4u0Y-X-y2LBlfnPhaOknd9vo0-3hBB_SU...

Much thanks for your time and help!

Have a nice day! :3

PS. Let me know if it is not suitable to send here.

Down2Jam #2 - The Community Centered Game Jam - September 5-8th

As a team of gamedevs who originally met at various game jams, we’re now organizing our own jam: Down2Jam, hosted on a platform we developed from the ground up.
We describe our jam as the community centered game jam.

Why not just itch.io?

We chose to build our own website because itch hasn’t updated its game jam system for years, many community features are missing, and the forums there feel clunky and outdated. We wanted to offer a more interactive, modern experience for everyone involved.

What is a community-centered game jam?

For us, that means a jam built with the community at its core. We host post-submission events, highlight games, and provide easy ways for devs to share, discover, and discuss entries. We’re constantly listening to our Discord to get feedback, suggestions, and friendly banter. We use polls to decide features and themes, and actively encourage discourse and reflection.

We held the first edition of Down2Jam in March to test out our website’s features and the concept of a truly community centered jam. Now that we've refined things based on feedback, we're eager to expand our reach and grow the community even further.

Our next jam kicks off on September 5th and runs for 3 days. I’m attaching a quick video that introduces Down2Jam, how it works, and why it’s different.
