Why do the suits sometimes seem to be doing jackshit? Nishi didn't receive a scratch after being thrown off a building, being shot with the x-ran, which explodes your face, destroys the suit, but leaves you uninjured for that attack. And the suit can also prevent injuries from getting shot in the head at gunpoint.

But here, the alien just instantly slices them apart, as if the suits are just some cloth

The suit is weak towards sharp objects. Buddha was able to cut through the suits using its swords. It seems punches, slams, blunt force don't do much damage depending on the hit and how repetitive the hit lands.

I mean, that’s pretty much how Kevlar works right? Blunt force gets dissipated over a large area, but puncturing or slicing is very much a go. To resist slicing, you’d need something hard akin to a plate armor.
