Announcement The GT Degree Roadmap is out now!
Hi everyone! My name is Nicholas Stone, and I am the 25/26 Joint Vice President of Information Technology (JVPIT) for the GT Student Government Association (SGA). After several semesters of hard work, GT SGA is proud to announce the beta launch for the GT Degree Roadmap! Our incredible Internal Tools team has developed an application to effectively manage your multi-year course registration plans. The Roadmap is an intuitive drag-and-drop system which highlights up-to-date prerequisite errors and allows you to visualize your desired courses through an interactive Course Tree. Our dashboard allows you to debug course conflicts and quickly view courses on Course Critique to compare and contrast GPAs. This is not just a 4-year planning tool: It is purpose-built to accommodate the needs of incoming freshmen and the continuing student. If you are in need of navigating Add/Drop this week, or looking to plan out your future semesters, use the link below to speed up your process. Thanks!
Check out the Roadmap here: https://gt-degree-roadmap.vercel.app

Announcement Sign our petition to make Plan B free on campus
YDSA is running a campaign to make Plan B free on campus. We believe it is Georgia Tech's duty to meet the demands of this petition, in order to uphold its commitment to its students’ health and well-being.
Reproductive rights in Georgia are under attack. The state of Georgia implemented a draconian six-week abortion ban in July 2022, stripping women of their bodily autonomy and putting their lives at risk.
Under the Trump administration and the governorship of Brian Kemp, this oppressive law will not change, thus, it is up to Georgia Tech to protect its students.
To uphold its values, Georgia Tech needs to take a larger step in protecting the reproductive rights of its students. Access to emergency contraception, such as Plan B, is our best safeguard, providing an additional line of defense in the event of an unplanned pregnancy. Access to emergency contraception ensures students autonomy over their reproductive welfare, and by extension, the pursuit of their academic, career, and life goals.
Please sign this petition and share it with your fellow Yellow Jackets to make a difference on campus. To get involved, join us through the linktree in our bio!

Announcement Download Schedule Directly from OSCAR | Chrome Extension
🐝🐝Wassup yellow jackets! 🐝🐝
I present to you a chrome extension that can parse your schedule from OSCAR and turn it into an iCalendar (.ics) file! You can thus import your schedule to calendars such as iCloud Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, and probably more, allowing you to more easily keep track of your classes rather than constantly looking on OSCAR and/or screenshots of your schedule. This is still in its early stages, so please give me any feedback!
Edit: This is now open source!! Click here to view the github repository.
(To clear up any future confusion: this does not make or modify your schedule nor use any personal data. This simply parses your courses form OSCAR and downloads an .ics file from them.)
Have a good Fall 2025 semester!

Announcement I built Mellons.app to make finding food way easier
Hey everyone!
I'm a GT student and just launched Mellons.
It's a free app that helps you quickly figure out where to eat on campus. Instead of looking through outdated websites or panning around Google Maps, you can just use the Mellons app! It lets you check what's open on campus right now, and see more info (like the weekly hours).
It works for a lot of schools, but I wanted to share it with you all as something I built because of my own problem remembering what's open when.
You can check it out at mellons.app! I'd love to hear what you think about it, and hopefully it saves you all some time!

Announcement Vulnerability Public Disclosure - Hacklytics 2025 Portal Breach
This February, the Hacklytics 2025 Hackathon hosted by Data Science @ GT potentially exposed personal information of all participants, including full name, date of birth, personal and institutional email addresses, and dietary restrictions. This was caused by serious flaws in the design and implementation of their custom website, the "Hacklytics 2025 Portal". Vulnerabilities found during the investigation also found that admin access was poorly secured, potentially compromising the integrity of the event.
At time of writing, malicious actors are known to possess at least a full list of participant emails.
Some of the vulnerabilities include:
- Shipping debug builds to production (Graph QL introspection, JS Source Maps)
- Over-fetching of endpoints
- Using a fixed API key as admin access control...
- And baking said API key into client-side JavaScript
For more detail on the above, see the technical report:

Announcement URGENT: GT Students - Never Share Your DUO 2FA Codes!
Dear GT Family,
Many of you are aware of the recent wave of phishing attempts targeting Georgia Tech students. These attacks are particularly concerning as they're exploiting previously compromised GT accounts to send what appear to be legitimate verification requests.
Important security facts you need to know:
- The IT department will NEVER ask for your DUO 2FA codes
- We do not need these codes to perform any IT operations
- Any request for your 2FA code is 100% fraudulent
Current Phishing Technique
The latest attacks are using previously hacked GT accounts (which appear trustworthy) to send fake "account verification" messages. Remember: IT will never ask you to verify your account through unsolicited emails.
These phishing attempts often direct you to Google Forms asking for your credentials. Georgia Tech IT does not use Google Forms for account verification.
If You've Been Targeted:
- Forward suspicious emails to [phishing@gatech.edu](mailto:phishing@gatech.edu)
- If you've already entered information into one of these forms, your account is likely compromised
- Report compromised accounts immediately to 404-385-1111
While we employ sophisticated technology to protect our networks, the strongest defense against these attacks is your vigilance. No security system can completely prevent phishing if users inadvertently share their credentials.
Help us keep Georgia Tech secure. Never share your 2FA codes. When in doubt, contact the IT help desk directly rather than responding to emails.
STAY SECURE AND SOCIALIZE THIS MESSAGE.
Thank you,
GT Cyber Security Operations

Announcement GT Cybersecurity Operations PSA
Dear GT Family,
GT Cybersecurity is currently observing another phishing attempts via email from 'gmail.com' domain with the following variation of subject(s) line related to 'Part-Time Employment', 'Personal Assistant', and 'Remote Job'. These attempts are to send emails with malicious link to harvest credentials. If you receive a phishing text, please do not click on any links or respond to any phone numbers that you do not recognize. GT job postings occur on approved platforms and GT owned websites.
If you see any suspicious emails:
- Either forward suspicious emails to [phishing@gatech.edu](mailto:phishing@gatech.edu) or use the 'report' function in Outlook to report it as a phishing email.
- If you've already entered information into one of these forms, your account is likely compromised.
- Report compromised accounts immediately to 404-385-1111.
Red Flags to look for from phishing text:
- Unknown or Suspicious Senders – Be cautious of texts from unknown numbers or those claiming to be from official sources but seem unusual.
- Urgency & Threats – Messages demanding immediate action (e.g., "Your account will be locked! Click here to fix it.") are likely phishing attempts.
- Misspellings & Grammar Mistakes – Legitimate organizations rarely send poorly written messages.
While we employ sophisticated technology to protect our networks, the strongest defense against these attacks is your vigilance. No security system can completely prevent phishing if users inadvertently share their credentials.
Help us keep Georgia Tech secure. Never share your GT account or personal information. When in doubt, contact the IT help desk directly rather than responding to emails.
STAY SECURE AND SOCIALIZE THIS MESSAGE.
Thank you,

Announcement We’re joining the Reddit blackout from June 12th to 14th to protest the planned API changes that will kill 3rd party apps
Howdy r/gatech
It’s been a minute since we had one of these mod posts, as this is mostly a pretty tight knit, drama free community. I’m sure you’ve read half a dozen of these by now, but it’s worth stating our participation and support of the blackout put on by subreddits across this site.
Recently Reddit corporate has announced changes to the API pricing structure that would effectively kill every 3rd party application used to access the site. Apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Narwhal, and others will no longer work as they will now cost literal millions to operate in overhead costs.
Here’s a good TLDR on some of the other impacts of this API change, including that it'll break screen readers for the seeing impaired: https://i.imgur.com/E7jSWf1.jpg
Many of the bots that have been in use on this subreddit such as the GT risk bot will no longer be operational either.
Why should GT care?
It wasn’t that long ago that I was a wee little first year sitting in Under the Couch building my first API scraper using the reddit API, and these little projects helped solidify my choice of major and lead to the career I have today. I gave presentations to my previous company on the robustness of this API.
If you care about open source software, about a free and open internet, and about the ability to post, this is important. It’s hard not to sound like a boomer a bit here, but the internet is nowhere near as open as it was when I was young and this balkanization seems only likely to continue as corporations in pursuit of infinite growth look to further monetize their user bases.
Will this blackout fix things? Judging by the last one, probably not. But this is really all we can do. I’ve done my part to be amongst the least valuable Daily Active Userbase of all social media sites, but if they want to show us the door, who are we to disagree?
What you can do
While subs going dark is one thing, regular users can help as well.
Reach out to Reddit via the channels available to you: Modmail r/reddit, comment in relevant posts regarding the API changes, submit your comments via the contact forms.
Spread the word about the changes and the consequences where you can. Doesn't have to be on Reddit. The important thing is getting it attention.
Participate in the communities that highlight this issue: r/Save3rdPartyApps, r/apolloapp, r/redditisfun, r/getnarwhal/
And finally stay off Reddit completely from June 12th to 14th. The blackout is one thing, but users staying away from the site entirely will send an equally important message.
But don't forget: Don't be a jerk. As frustrating as this is, being toxic or aggressive is not the way to go. Remember the human on the other side of the screen.

Announcement 📢 Rule 5 Enforcement Update - Please read!
Hi everyone!
TLDR: We’re not introducing any new rules, but we are clarifying how Rule 5 will be enforced - especially when it comes to using MegaThreads. This change mostly only affects prospective students.
Below is a summary of the changes we decided to make to Rule 5, these rules only affect prospective students looking to post on the sub:
🔹Prospective High school students: Please continue using the designated MegaThreads for all your questions.
🔹 Newly admitted undergrads: You're welcome to post questions anywhere on the subreddit, but topics like housing or finding roommates should go in their appropriate MegaThreads.
🔹 Prospective M.S/Ph.D. students, & Faculty: You may continue posting standalone questions, since these often benefit from broader visibility.
Moving forward, posts that don’t follow these guidelines will be removed, and additional actions can be taken at the moderators' discretion. This helps us keep the sub organized and useful for everyone - especially since the number of these posts has increased significantly in recent years.
We encourage everyone to check the pinned MegaThreads more often, as many prospective students are just looking for someone to talk to about life at GT.
Thanks for helping keep the community running smoothly!
– The r/GaTech Mod Team, Go Jackets! 🐝
