First class
Anyone just started their master and during the “introduce yourself” of the first class, you felt like isht because everybody else seemed to have so much experience ever since their bachelor ? Today during my class there was people who already worked for the government, big companies, even some people who already had other masters or are super young PROFESSORS
they had so much to say, one of them monopolised the floor for like 10 mn no joke to talk about his careers and achievements
I felt like proper ISHT Like ever since i left that class i had that defeated look on my face for the whole day 😭 I’m wondering what i’m doing here fr And it will probably be the same during the first class of my 2nd course tomorrow

I’ve been to conferences with 23 year olds with multiple top tier first author papers so I know how this feels. I think comparison is the thief of joy and I just stick to the motto of one day at a time.

I also had to introduce myself today at my master class. Kinda felt bad about myself but I tried to use big words to make me look and sound smarter. I promise you others have done the same thing. Comparison is a thief of joy.

I’ve been there. Everyone has their own journey, remember you got into the program for a reason.

I would look at it as an objective fact. Ok, they have more experience. So what? Your time will come and you will be great. In the mean time, these are your peers - what a fantastic opportunity to learn from them. You have totally got this!

Yeah I feel ya Bro just stay positive and don't compare yourself to others or you'll fall into the same trap, you're an individual with your own skillset that is building, your here to learn and grow so focus on that.

This is exactly how I feel. I feel like SUCH an imposter it makes me feel horrible about myself. I’m reading a book right now that talks about academia (katabasis) and I GENUINELY cannot stomach it because it is making me SO anxious just thinking about it. I feel like such a loser lol

I feel this on so many levels. I’m the youngest grad student in all my classes. No publications, no undergrad thesis, no supervisor yet. I feel so inexperienced and in over my head🫠

There is a reason why you’re sitting among them :)
