Taking the bolt off, like taking the whole wheel off? Why does that cause the tire to explode?

Can't think of any other benefit of having rims that come apart. 1 u/whurpurgis 5d ago I think it was to make production easier. My dad has a Ford from the 1940s with a split rim for the spare but he doesn’t have a tire on it, just leaves it there for decoration.
