Actually, the reason we have speed limits is simply to make money off of people. It has already been proven that if you removed the speed limit signs, people drive more comfortably and caused less accidents, overall.
Some people are just stupid and do stupid things...like the driver of the bike. Sign or no sign, he was still going to do it.
Do you think there wasn't a speed limit in the video? Or do you think he was the last human being on wheels to learn what speed limits were (then again by the video he probably won't)
People speed like this because the speed limit isnt even part of their equation. It's one thing to know "ok the limit is 65, but it's a highway and the traffics light so we can push it to 75". That's NOT what that video was, or God only knows how more like him in daily life (GOD I hate the 101)
Edit: and the answer is speed bumps in towns, or reckless endangerment charges and seizure of the vehicles every time.
We don't? People are always going to do things that others think are stupid. Trying to stop them only makes them want to do it more. Natural selection has to be allowed to run its course.
So in court, the guy can say, "Sorry about your kid mam, but I was going the legal limit in town, which is no limit and your kid happen to be in the way. Natural selection you know"
There should be a way to decide who is at fault and keep innocent people from doing stupid stuff. I understand people are stupid, and they are going to drive like they want. I live in South Africa, you cant tell me anything, and we have something called minibus taxis, they drive like a*s, they go where they want. If we dont have a way of saying look, you are causing trouble, everyone will go haywire. I like u/twec21 's suggestion about speed humps. Then you can't do anything without causing trouble to your own car first.
I could not possibly imagine what it's like to live in South Africa. Maybe it wouldn't work there; that idk. I will have to go with your pov, for your country, as I do not nor have I ever lived there.
And no. That person still hit a child, in your scenario. Speed limit or none, they hit a child. That's jail. It doesn't matter how fast they were going.
I hear what you are saying, but I don't agree. Let's say that the road has a huge uphill and a sudden downhill, and there is no speed regulation and the kid crossed the road behind the big uphill, the first time I see him is when hes 5m infront of me, I was going 200km/h, there is no way I will stop in time. Who's at fault? The kid crossed the road at a dangerous place, and I was "speeding" whatever that means with no law.
We are both in the wrong, unfortunately it turned out worse for the kid than me, it doesn't mean I am in the wrong, I'm not talking morally here, im talking law alone. We need stuff in place put by people who calculated and through about stuff like this, cause not everyone has common sense.
