Glutened myself in the dumbest way

Please commiserate with me lol. I was making dinner last night- microwave frozen rice and Dinosaur BBQ chili which are both safe. I do not yet have a gf kitchen though and my partner isn’t always the best about cleaning up crumbs. Whatever it’s usually not a problem. But last night my hand slipped and I got crumbs under one finger nail. One finger nail. I rinsed my hand thinking I wouldn’t be touching any of the food anyway. But rice is subject to the Dog Tax so I always save him some for when I’m done eating and I poured too much rice out and without thinking I scooped some up with my fingers and put it back for him. I woke up nauseous but just thought I was dehydrated or whatever. Nope. When I had to run to the bathroom I knew. But of course we’re supposed to go to a concert tonight so I’m trying to pull myself together enough. Luckily it wasn’t much so my symptoms are mild except the nausea 😫

This reminds me of when I licked some frosting off my hand without thinking, after I gave my kid a cupcake that wasn't gf. Never made that mistake again.

Sorry! I have been glutened by playdoh under my finger nails, kicking an envelope, smelling a papa johns pizza, and making a package of gravy mix that wasn't gluten free for my husband. Hope you feel better fast.

I didn’t know there was gluten in Playdoh, but maybe that explains my lifelong aversion to it.

Yes! It’s basically just wheat flour, so continue to stay away.

Smelling is safe. You could have a psychosomatic reaction, but there isn’t an actual immune-mediated response occurring.

If you react that severely then yeah I think your partner is an ass for not being more careful. It seems like they aren’t all that concerned about your disorder.

Nah he really does his best and he’ll clean it now because he feels bad but we both live here and neither bothered to 🤷🏻‍♀️ no one’s really at fault here

Don’t worry I’m making him clean it tonight lol (no actual force involved haha he’ll do it because he cares)

Show is likely cancelled due to thunderstorms but I am feeling better at least!

Have you tried activated charcoals pills and Gluten Ease. I do both and it definitely shortens the recovery time and severity of the symptoms.

Why did this get downvoted?

I think because people are really skeptical of gluten ease (fair) but I do always have some on hand because even if it’s placebo anything helps haha

I can’t take activated charcoal because I take prescriptions and I forgot I have gluten ease haha but I took bonine and made it through! Lol

I bought a sealed bottle of water at an ice cream shop. Was super careful not to touch the opening of the bottle with my fingers. Wasn't careful enough.

Omg I’m so sorry. Recently my friend gave me a Hershey kiss then as I’m chewing says it had some kind of cake in it. I spit it out but still went through so much pain in the next few days

Even postage stamps contain gluten, go figure.

In the US they do not. This is a myth.

If it makes you feel any better, the husband and I went to Costco today and ordered hot dogs at the concession. At first they gave me one with a bun and when I requested one without it, they let us keep the mistake one. In my gluttony, I decided I wanted both dogs and just gave a good wipe down of the bunned dog, no problem, right? WRONG. I ended up power puking about 20ins worth of chunky hot dog, mustard, and relish. Ive been sick with a headache ever since 😭
