help me Looking for a coder to join our team. 3d tile based movement.

Our previous coder had to leave the team and left us with a half finished movement system. Hoping someone can help us finish this up so we can convert it into a plugin for others to use and use it for our own little project.

selfpromo (games) Im building this new map for my mobile game :> [>50k downloaded]

Inspired by one of Vietnam’s most iconic street foods “Cơm Sườn”

Think smoky grilled pork chop, broken rice, a bit of pickled veggies, and that signature sweet–savory fish sauce drizzle… all packed into the vibe of the map.

selfpromo (games) "Why does making a game take so long?" (level-building timelapse)

So when developing Tyto, I decided to use CollisionPolygons instead of a tilemap.

It allows me to make a more organically shaped world instead of a tile-based one.

The next step was to make it look good - hence the timelapse! I painstakingly place every single sprite in the game so it feels natural and not repetitive.

Still wondering if I should make a script that’ll do it instead, but I don’t think it would do as good a job. What do you think?

Version 1.0 is now out and it allows you to add *your own assets* to the library, pushing the customization even further :) I am currently holding a sale, so the printer is 45% off. Grab it while it is hot! :D

discussion Spectral Ice Hand V2

Upvotes

Hi again! After going through your comments, I’ve updated the skill and here’s the improved version:

Changes:

  • Single cast is direct, no randomness.
  • Leaves a ghostly trail.
  • Accelerates and opens when an enemy is near.
  • Adds a freezing effect.
  • Multiple casts spread in a fan pattern.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this iteration. Thanks for all the feedback.

discussion [Before/After] 3 months of progress on my game (made with Godot)

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I've been developing a game inspired by the mechanics of Papers, Please for five months now. I thought it would be interesting to post a before/after visual here. Three months separate these two versions of the game.

Still a long way to go, but it’s motivating to look back at the progress.

help me Why is “Make Unique” the most painful feature in Godot?

So, I’ve been working with Godot for a while now, and honestly, one of the most “well-intended” features has also turned out to be the most painfully annoying: Make Unique.

Every time you duplicate something, Godot automatically shares its resources with the original. Sure, in theory that sounds amazing — memory efficient, clean, no duplicates. But in practice? It’s a nightmare.

Example: I’m making like 10 different plants. They’re all pretty similar, just with different meshes and gradients. I duplicate one, swap the mesh, start adjusting the gradient colors… and then realize I forgot to hit Make Unique. Boom. All my other plants just got overwritten, and the work I did is gone.

This happens to me all the time because I simply forget to press it. And I get why this feature exists — resource sharing is smart. But from a development perspective, it’s just so painful. I really wish there was a setting to turn this off, so that every new scene/node automatically gets its own unique materials/resources unless I explicitly tell it to share.

Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I just missing some hidden Godot checkbox that makes this less frustrating?

selfpromo (games) So after 2 weeks of learning Godot I made a prototype. Now time to learn Blender

So I wanted to make a game since forever. And now that I graduated I decided to follow my dream of becoming a Game Dev.

About a month ago a thought crossed my mind "Why aren't there any games that use Arx Fatalis magic system". And I decided to do it myself

And now that I graduated I have a bit of free time outside of work to do my thing.

My first course of action was to make a script that recognizes the symbols that the player draws. That was a quite tricky (I think that's the only time in 5 years that my education helped me).

Then I spent the rest of the time on spells. The longest by far was the Time Stop. Bugs followed me every step. But I was faster.

But I still have problems with animation, e.g. when the fireball spawned in fully exploded state.

I'm thinking about if I should make a devlog video now or after I learn blender and make a playable environment.

I also want to thank these people:
Brackeys for his overview of Godot and GDScript

And to my family for believing in my idea and giving me motivaiton

selfpromo (games) I am trying to keep working on this one...

When we started this project in Godot a year ago the idea was make something simple to be realese quick. That's why we choose a text adventure. We spent more time developing a plugin to make viable the development of the choices and still what we have is a very early prototype. Of course we had been working in our spare time and life the past year has been crazy. The grind is real, keep working on your projects and dreams bit by bit, and enjoy the process!!

I am trying to make an endless runner (not for commercial game) in Godot 3.6 similar to the the game "Subway Surfers" but in Minecraft style, but in the way I found there are lot more challenges than i expected.

This is just for fun and I do not own any copyright protected content from Minecraft and subway surfers

selfpromo (games) Day 3 prototyping my game, do you think this mechanic is fun?

This is a puzzle/platformer game where you control various characters, each with a different skill. Here we have the mage, who can move objects with his telekinetic powers. And the rogue, who can throw daggers to activate mechanisms.

The rogue can't reach the lever that will activate the bridge, but with the help of the mage they can do some team work!

This is a very simple example to showcase what can be done, but do you think this could be an interesting mechanic?

selfpromo (games) First attempt at 3D animation, blending, and simple IK!

Here's the current design for our game's player character model (currently nameless). My amazing artist made the model, rigging, and animations, and I set them up in Godot using an AnimationTree. What you see is the result of some branching AnimationBlendTrees, but it's still a work in progress. Also using SkeletonIK3Dfor the look-around effect, and BoneAttachment3D to hold the items. What do you think?

I have created a beginner level cheat sheet for beginners using Godots GDScript. I will be giving this out to my students who take my Godot courses.

Any recommendations to add or modify anything listed?

help me (solved) X-Ray Progress

Hello again,

Here's my current attempt using a BackBufferCopy and a Mask in the scene tree:

  • Player
  • BackBufferCopy
  • Walls
  • Mask with simple shader which samples the hint_screen_texture created by the BackBufferCopy

Works okay, but I will continue experimenting - Thanks everyone for the input in the last post!
