The Ford's revenge

6

u/proe90 May 21 '25

What kind of fuckery is this lol

26

u/ImNewAndOldAgain May 21 '25

Looks legit to me.

58

u/cocainebane May 21 '25

Not a big truck fan, and I’m a Toyota guy. But the raptor is fun to race. I made mine a Baja dedicated type build.

9

u/Con_Bot_ Renault Sport May 21 '25

You’re a Toyota guy? I had no idea they’d started manufacturing human men, is there anything the Japanese can’t do?

2

u/cocainebane May 21 '25

Nah we fuck

67

u/Digger977 May 21 '25

I mean you’re comparing a Tundra full size truck vs a tiny compact Japanese car/truck. But yes full size trucks have gotten quite large

17

u/-CaptainFormula- May 21 '25

Yeah I'm not sure I could even fit in a Honda Beat.

But yeah I have a newer truck and one about twenty years old, both full size trucks. It's crazy how much bigger they've gotten.

And it's like an arms race, with companies thinking that they can't be smaller than the competition. It's stupid.

15

u/donosairs May 21 '25

If Doug Demuro can fit in one you can too!

4

u/Digger977 May 21 '25

Yeah I have a 2018 Silverado crew cab and it makes a early 2000s Silverado almost look like a mid size. And then getting into a HD truck is even worse lol

7

u/odd_blues May 21 '25

I mean, even bigger hatches are small in comparison

7

u/Spectacl3 May 21 '25

I feel you on the kei car comparison... But that's a fuggin Unimog, not some smol japanese truck, and it is dwarfed in contrast

7

u/Multipla_Orgasms Peugeot May 21 '25

A 411 Unimog is quite short actually, its barely longer than a modern Kei Truck.

3

u/GanzeKapselAufsHandy May 21 '25

Ah yes, the japanese compact Unimog

And US carmakers are wondering why their cars don’t sell in Japan. Even their supposedly “small” cars are on the bigger end when brought here.

16

u/CardinalOfNYC May 21 '25 edited May 21 '25

And US carmakers are wondering why their cars don’t sell in Japan

I mean first of all, the pickup truck in question is Japanese.

Second, US carmakers are well aware of the situation and don't even try to sell most of their cars in Japan as a result. There's no confusion or wondering going on.

Edit: good lord you downvoters are truly fucking brain dead.

9

u/MySpiritAnimalSloth May 21 '25

You are right, however these trucks are intended to cater to the American market.

8

u/CardinalOfNYC May 21 '25

Right that's basically what I'm saying. All these big trucks, they're not sold in Japan because they're not meant to be sold in Japan.

Like, nobody in the automotive industry is confused about why the Japanese market isn't into giant trucks while the US market is. They're different cultures and so you market different products to them.

The US automakers could if they wanted to, invest into building cars tailored to the Japanese market... But they've clearly done the math and decided other markets are more fruitful and their connection to the Japanese market is mostly via mergers and partnerships.

-4

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

I don’t know about you, but the US seems very confused about things right now. No other explanation possible for what’s going on in that country.

11

u/CardinalOfNYC May 21 '25

You're talking about very, very different things here.

Yes, politically, things are messy in the US right now, putting it generously.

But that's quite different from whether US car companies know why they don't sell their US models in Japan.... This is something they've known and understood for much longer than the current political chaos.

-13

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

“Things are messy” is “putting is generously”? Bro, wake up 💀

10

u/CardinalOfNYC May 21 '25 edited May 21 '25

Are you genuinely that dense? That because, here in the GT subreddit in a conversation about GT... I didn't go right into a rant about all the scary fascist shit happening under Trump.... that means I'm not aware of it? Not worried and terrified by it?

You're clearly a fucking moron if you believe US car makers are "confused" as to why they voluntarily don't sell many models in Japan.

Critical thinking & reading comprehension becomes more of a lost art with each passing day.

u/keicarlover2002 PSN: [Dbwasson] May 21 '25

At least a kei truck was what we needed

90

u/dumsumguy May 21 '25

in fairness modern " pickup trucks " are basically semi trucks... I hate my country for doing this

28

u/Slow_Cow_ May 21 '25

Thank you for admitting it. It’s bleeding into the rest of the world too

-38

u/jaylenbrownisbetter May 21 '25

The rest of the world is just behind culturally, per usual. I’ll let you know what music will be big in your country 10 years from now if you ask nicely

26

u/vincents-dream May 21 '25

Lol let me know our average weight by that time too!

5

u/jaylenbrownisbetter May 21 '25

You’ll all be 300 pounds by then, but Americans will be 600 pounds so we will still be hyper-obese comparatively. You will not out-obese us.

5

u/JediKnightaa May 21 '25

the irony is that's becoming true. The US was on the SUV train for like 10 years now the rest of the world (Europe) is becoming just like the US. SUVs everywhere

4

u/hoolahoopz92 Mercedes May 21 '25

SUVs have been a mainstay in Australia for almost 20 years now, we just don’t have the stupidly big ones

2

u/meh_whatev May 21 '25

10? Try 30

21

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25 edited May 21 '25

This is wrong, crew cabs have always been this big…

The only thing that has changed is that more trucks are crew cabs than previously. It’s cheaper to have one vehicle that can do car and truck things than to have a separate car and truck

-7

u/dumsumguy May 21 '25 edited May 21 '25

You are absolutely deluded if you think trucks have always been this tall, heavy, fast, AND unsafe for the cars and pedestrians around them. Oh and just for good measure they also threw in retina searing death rays that are too high off the ground, just in case they weren't dangerous enough to begin with.

Please stop posting your nonsense on the internet.

EDIT: Just in case the truck loving brigade is interested in any kinds of facts:

6

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25

I literally attached a photo. The only one deluded here is you.

The 1979 Ford F-series crew cab is 10in shorter in length, 3 inches shorter in height, and the same width. Those are dimensions that literally make zero difference. They are practically the same size. The 79 has a hood at a much more shallow angle which makes it harder to see despite the slightly smaller size.

On the other hand, the modern one has significantly more QoL features, is much MUCH more efficient, comfortable, AND SAFE. For the driver, for other cars, and for pedestrians!

The modern one can also tow 4,000lbs more…

-5

u/dumsumguy May 21 '25

Sure dude... cool story, even though it's completely false:

6

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25

None of your sources disagree with me.. did you even read them?

Your sources say trucks and heavy vehicles kill more people than cars. This entire debate has had nothing to do with that fact nor did I ever deny it…

All I said was that crew cab trucks have remained approx the same size (because people are arguing that theyve gotten bigger),the only difference is that there are more crew cabs sold than there used to be. IN FACT, ALL OF YOUR SOURCES AGREE WITH THAT.

Do you even know what youre arguing about?

7

u/thitherten04206 Chevrolet May 21 '25

I just want them to start making ford rangers and similar size trucks again

10

u/SomethingDumbthing20 May 21 '25

They have. I assume you've already bought a Maverick or a Santa Cruz then?

-4

u/thitherten04206 Chevrolet May 21 '25

No I don't want a crew cab truck with bed walls to high for me to reach over

1

u/SomethingDumbthing20 May 21 '25

No, you just want to bitch about it. You wouldn't actually buy it. It's why they no longer make them. They don't sell.

4

u/timdot352 May 21 '25

They don't make them anymore because the way the emissions laws are written makes it easier to pass emissions if the truck is bigger.

2

u/SomethingDumbthing20 May 21 '25

The Maverick is literally comparable size to the old rangers. Anyone who says otherwise is just romanticizing.

0

u/toastlahey May 21 '25

The maverick looks like shit. It’s like an 06 escape with Down syndrome

-1

u/thitherten04206 Chevrolet May 21 '25

The 3 rangers and 1 s10 I've owned say diff

0

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25

So youve never seen a maverick or santa cruz before…

2

u/tcarino Lamborghini May 21 '25

But then how will we know who's micromachine is bigger!?!?!

6

u/audiovox12 May 21 '25

So dramatic

3

u/omnipotent87 May 21 '25

I assure you my 89 F250 is bigger than most modern trucks.

1

u/EdsonKriiborn May 21 '25

Weird because I parked my 2020 next to a 1972 and they were the same exact size

1

u/growerdan May 21 '25

I used to drive a F550 and pull a 20’ enclosed trailer. I needed a class B combination or class A cdl to legally tow the trailer with the truck.

33

u/kaiserspike May 21 '25

Average Yanktank

22

u/SortOfKnow May 21 '25

American trucks are truly very big, especially considering 80-85% never do what is intended and only grab a gallon of milk from the store.

-16

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 21 '25

It doesn't have to haul campers. The Tundra is one of the best family vehicles out there. Seats 5 very comfortably with incredible storage capacity.

17

u/_Vaparetia May 21 '25

A Sienna does the same thing but seats 8

16

u/FaZe_Burga May 21 '25

You're gonna scare him away with even the sheer thought of a man driving a minivan.

1

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 21 '25

I guess it would blow your mind to learn my other vehicle is a minivan...stay mad

1

u/FaZe_Burga May 22 '25

Cool story... doesn't change the fact that you use an inefficient pedestrian killing behemoth as a mall crawler lmao. It's okay to say you don't know how to spend your money, you're not the first American with that mindset.

1

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 21 '25

There aren't 8 in my household. There are 5...

-9

u/ComfortableBus7184 May 21 '25

Yeah but you're not putting a yard of mulch in the Sienna

14

u/The_Frankanator May 21 '25

Neither are most of the people who buy those kinds of trucks.

6

u/DontLookAtUsernames May 21 '25

They cosplay as people who put a yard of mulch in their truck.

0

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 21 '25

You really think that most people that buy trucks don't haul mulch? Really? I can tell you're not a homeowner.

0

u/The_Frankanator May 22 '25

I've actually just bought my first home and even I know there are more versatile options than these emotional support trucks for hauling bulk material. Like, oh I don't know, a trailer?

That way I can buy a car that fits my everyday needs better than something that is only useful for my occasional needs or if I really need to run over children while being completely unaware.

0

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 22 '25

This kind of thinking is why fascism is still alive and well in the world. I don’t mean you in particular, but this whole thread full of people getting incited by the vehicle choices of people they will never meet. They have no clue as to the reasons people think and live differently than they do, and they don’t care. “If you’re different, then you’re wrong.”

0

u/The_Frankanator May 22 '25

I don't think you're wrong because you have a different opinion to me, I think you're wrong because these cars are unnecessary and dangerous in so many ways. I'd wager that most of the people getting incited in this thread hold this opinion due to one or several of my following arguments.

I will preface the following with the fact that I live in Australia. We have seen a recent influx of "yank tanks" to our country being bought up by rich knobs who think these cars make them big dog. Anyway, onto the actual points:

  1. They're unnecessarily large. They don't fit well on our roads, they don't fit in our carparks, they don't fit in our home garages. We don't have the infrastructure to accommodate road cars being this big. And there's really no reason for them to be this big, many utes in Australia are much smaller with the same or larger bed sizes.

  2. They're worse for the environment. The latest base model Chevy Silverado has a fuel consumption of 12.2 litres/100km. Whereas a moderate SUV like a Mazda CX-5 has 7.2 litres/100km.

  3. They're heavy as fuck. The extra unnecessary weight of these vehicles does more damage to roads over time and means we'll all end up paying more in registration to maintain our roads. Big trucks like semi-trailers and B-doubles pay extra to help negate the extra wear they put on roads, but these things pay the same as any old Holden Commodore.

  4. They're much more likely to kill others in a crash. The fucking stupid design choice to make a huge car with a big flat front means that if you hit a pedestrian, cyclist or motorcyclist, you impart more energy to their centre of mass, and they're more likely to be dragged under the car than to be thrown over the bonnet. In car vs car collisions, you're also imparting a shitload more force because of all the aforementioned unnecessary mass.

They only exist because American manufacturers could take advantage of loopholes in emissions laws by making their cars larger and heavier. It's simply corporate greed and the American people ate it up until it spread to the worldwide market.

I hate these cars (and the upward trend in the size of cars in general) because I care about others enough to make choices in my lifestyle to be better. Better for the environment, better for society and more compassionate toward others' comfort and safety. These cars are the antithesis of those values.

Here are some videos that shaped my point of view.

https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo?si=8wQBlg-z44oputpr

https://youtu.be/YpuX-5E7xoU?si=SPr-MZrT1LPZtmLU

3

u/SortOfKnow May 21 '25

Yeah but U-Haul rents trailers for 10 dollars and the sienna when equipped with a hitch can easy carry that yard

4

u/SkyJohn May 21 '25

Anywhere that sells mulch will do home deliveries.

3

u/foxden_racing TheAmishStig May 21 '25

And there are also these magic devices called "tarps". Take the seats out of the van, lay a tarp on the floor, and haul mulch to your heart's content.

2

u/Kekistani_MemeLord May 21 '25

literally exactly what we did a week ago with the odyssey. works wonderfully

1

u/Bolkohir May 22 '25

Because they have shifted the paradigm. Trucks were meant to be work vehicles, for hauling bigger stuff. Now they have commodified them into luxurious vehicles, while also unnecessarily increasing their size. If you need a family vehicle get a mini van. But don't pretend that a truck as a family car makes sense.

Europe still has wagons, but if you want the extra storage space in the US you either get a crossover or an SUV.

1

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 22 '25

Who are you to tell me what is the right vehicle for my family? Do you pretend to know anything about my or my family’s needs, or why I prefer my truck over other kinds of vehicles? No, you just hate anything that you don’t understand. Racism, sexism, ageism, have this same kind of thinking at their core: if someone thinks differently than I do, than they’re wrong and must be stopped.

Why do you view an SUV differently? It’s literally just a pickup truck with a closed-in bed. It’s just your perception and attitude. I’m just glad I live in a country where people like you can’t control other people’s lives.

0

u/Bolkohir May 22 '25

I somehow knew you were going to take this personally lmao.

I'm not talking about your particular case, if you use it for work purposes and family stuff, more power to you, but the argument that it's a great family vehicle is just nonsensical, when there are definitely vehicles designed with that purpose.

And no, I can't control people's lives in this country, corporations do. And that's why they have sold you the idea that a big massive truck is what you need to be a "big manly man", while simultaneously putting everyone else in danger, damaging roads more and burning more fuel than necessary. That goes for large SUVs as well.

2

u/The_Frankanator May 23 '25

I like the phrase, "the right to swing your fist ends where my face begins"

These knobs are out here swinging their 3 ton fists about getting pissy at us when we say, that's not necessary because, "mah freedums"

1

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 22 '25

“If you need a family vehicle get a mini van. But don't pretend that a truck as a family car makes sense.”

But I’m the one who made it personal. This is getting funny.

7

u/x16900 May 21 '25

I was parked at a boat ramp the other day and saw a small old Toyota pickup sitting next to a newer Ram. The difference was shocking. I'm over 6ft tall and I'm pretty sure I'd need a step ladder to see the engine with the hood open.

6

u/Rage028 '17 Dodge Viper GT [PSN: Rage-028] May 21 '25

A Civic Type-R can look big too when I park my car beside it.

5

u/leighroyv2 May 21 '25

And still only carries 5 people.

2

u/jigenvw May 21 '25

I daily drive a Honda Acty kei truck in America. American made trucks are disgustingly huge for literally no reason at all. Fuck those things.

2

u/Vill1on Go commit Monza 1st corner May 21 '25

I can't imagine seeing these big trucks in the small streets of Japan.

3

u/wyyan200 May 21 '25

that's not even the "larger" pickup trucks, wait till the game introduces a dually pickup truck lol, no one can overtake

2

u/Sumbuddyonce May 21 '25

Everything looks big next to a Honda Beat

1

u/colonel_pliny May 21 '25

What happened to the little work truck? The Tacoma or S10 or Ranger? They were all the perfect size. The Tacoma I had back in the day cost me 15k new-ish and went for 400k miles. We need more vehicles like that in the states.

P.S. the new Tacoma is not much smaller than that Tundra. And, that is dumb AF!

2

u/foxden_racing TheAmishStig May 21 '25

Manufacturers found a loophole in emissions regulations that allowed them to make trucks bigger instead of making them cleaner.

2

u/ParticularPin2826 Chevrolet May 21 '25

I wish they would either add more pick up trucks so we could have more than 2 options in the pick up races.

3

u/ComfortableBus7184 May 21 '25

I'd like to see a TRD Pro Tacoma, Colorado ZR2 Bison, Ranger Raptor, and maybe the TRX.

Not going to happen, but it'd be fun.

1

u/RenzoAC May 21 '25

Trucks are now a showoff only bought for its looks and not their practicality.

Here’s a nice video explaining why (with a fun cameo at 9:18) https://youtu.be/l8Rt3zN9YY8

-22

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25

No they arent. Pickup trucks are bought because people have families and because people value personal space.

Crew cab pickups have practically not changed in size since the 1960s. There are just more crew cab trucks than regular cab trucks now than before.

4

u/SomethingDumbthing20 May 21 '25

Unfortunately, you're never going to get past the circlejerk on Reddit that full size trucks are always bad and unnecessary.

4

u/Dattinator May 21 '25

Mini vans fit entire families and are drivable. Most Americans use their pick ups to measure cocks

5

u/alaric_02 May 21 '25

how does it always come back to penis size?

-5

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25

Minivans don’t have external beds and can’t tow 10,800lbs

-8

u/fetus_mcbeatus May 21 '25

A Toyota hilux can and any other normal sized Ute

5

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25

The toyota hilux is 1. Not sold in the US and 2. Not able to comfortable seat a family.

A ute is also not capable of seating a family either, nor do they boast the carrying and towing capacity of pickups

-3

u/Same_Measurement7368 Subaru May 21 '25

You are coping bro, I’d rather you hang your hat on the argument of Americans just like abnormally large trucks because they can than try to make them sound practical. Most trucks, cabs, and SUVs aren’t used to their full potential it’s been proven. Minivans are the most practical.

-5

u/AlarmedRange7258 May 21 '25

I own a minivan and a full size truck. You must be so mad.

2

u/DunGame May 21 '25

They certainly don’t value everyone else’s personal space

1

u/another_brick May 21 '25

The vehicle on the right is a utility truck. The one on the left is a luxury vehicle with a cargo bed.

1

u/need4gaming May 21 '25

That’s normal size (American)

1

u/Sumbuddyonce May 21 '25

One time I was working on an apartment building and they brought a crew in from Europe to build the car elevator in the parking garage and the guys who built it told me they haven't seen a single car on our roads that's small enough to use it.

Kei cars are really, really small

1

u/TGhost21 May 22 '25

And modern F1 cars are BIGGER THAN A FORD F150.

1

u/Bolkohir May 22 '25

That's the american market for you. There's a tendency for people to feel "safer" in bigger cars, and now we have these unnecessarily massive trucks and SUVs on the road, while simultaneously increasing pedestrian death rates. Isn't that lovely?

1

u/Due_Piglet_9610 May 27 '25

come on, your comparing it with a Kei car.

1

u/odd_blues May 27 '25

Even with bigger cars, it doesn't change much

1

u/Due_Piglet_9610 Jun 04 '25

what about not hatchbacks, like, sedans

1

u/Due_Piglet_9610 Jun 09 '25

Don't sweat it I believe you

1

u/drifterdanny May 21 '25

*American-sized pickup trucks. There aren't many other places in the world where they're sized like RAM 2500s or F250s and Tundras.

Thailand and Australia is pickup truck central and Thai people haul a lot more than what the bed can handle, and especially a lot more than what the average American pickup owner would. They drive Isuzu D-Maxes, Ford Rangers... the light ones.

1

u/Hell_Maybe May 21 '25

You could put the honda in the bed of the truck and bring it around with you 🗿

1

u/R00ster22 May 21 '25

We should get more trucks and more off road events, Hilux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, RAM trucks, Volkswagen trucks like the Amarok and old off 4x4 suvs like the Prado, Bronco, Patrol, Land Crusier etc...

0

u/LearningGuitarInThai May 21 '25

I bought an 07 Tundra because it had a 5.7L Toyota V8 and I was amused. The roads are straight and wide in Texas.
