in fairness modern " pickup trucks " are basically semi trucks... I hate my country for doing this

Thank you for admitting it. It’s bleeding into the rest of the world too

The rest of the world is just behind culturally, per usual. I’ll let you know what music will be big in your country 10 years from now if you ask nicely

Lol let me know our average weight by that time too!

You’ll all be 300 pounds by then, but Americans will be 600 pounds so we will still be hyper-obese comparatively. You will not out-obese us.

the irony is that's becoming true. The US was on the SUV train for like 10 years now the rest of the world (Europe) is becoming just like the US. SUVs everywhere

SUVs have been a mainstay in Australia for almost 20 years now, we just don’t have the stupidly big ones

This is wrong, crew cabs have always been this big…

The only thing that has changed is that more trucks are crew cabs than previously. It’s cheaper to have one vehicle that can do car and truck things than to have a separate car and truck

You are absolutely deluded if you think trucks have always been this tall, heavy, fast, AND unsafe for the cars and pedestrians around them. Oh and just for good measure they also threw in retina searing death rays that are too high off the ground, just in case they weren't dangerous enough to begin with.

Please stop posting your nonsense on the internet.

EDIT: Just in case the truck loving brigade is interested in any kinds of facts:

I literally attached a photo. The only one deluded here is you.

The 1979 Ford F-series crew cab is 10in shorter in length, 3 inches shorter in height, and the same width. Those are dimensions that literally make zero difference. They are practically the same size. The 79 has a hood at a much more shallow angle which makes it harder to see despite the slightly smaller size.

On the other hand, the modern one has significantly more QoL features, is much MUCH more efficient, comfortable, AND SAFE. For the driver, for other cars, and for pedestrians!

The modern one can also tow 4,000lbs more…

Sure dude... cool story, even though it's completely false:
"Overall, light trucks pose a significant hazard to other users of the highway system but on average provide no additional protection to their own occupants." NIH.GOV

None of your sources disagree with me.. did you even read them?

Your sources say trucks and heavy vehicles kill more people than cars. This entire debate has had nothing to do with that fact nor did I ever deny it…

All I said was that crew cab trucks have remained approx the same size (because people are arguing that theyve gotten bigger),the only difference is that there are more crew cabs sold than there used to be. IN FACT, ALL OF YOUR SOURCES AGREE WITH THAT.

Do you even know what youre arguing about?

I just want them to start making ford rangers and similar size trucks again

8

u/SomethingDumbthing20 May 21 '25

They have. I assume you've already bought a Maverick or a Santa Cruz then?

-5

u/thitherten04206 Chevrolet May 21 '25

No I don't want a crew cab truck with bed walls to high for me to reach over

0

u/SomethingDumbthing20 May 21 '25

No, you just want to bitch about it. You wouldn't actually buy it. It's why they no longer make them. They don't sell.

3

u/timdot352 May 21 '25

They don't make them anymore because the way the emissions laws are written makes it easier to pass emissions if the truck is bigger.

3

u/SomethingDumbthing20 May 21 '25

The Maverick is literally comparable size to the old rangers. Anyone who says otherwise is just romanticizing.

0

u/toastlahey May 21 '25

The maverick looks like shit. It’s like an 06 escape with Down syndrome

-2

u/thitherten04206 Chevrolet May 21 '25

The 3 rangers and 1 s10 I've owned say diff

1

u/AverageAircraftFan May 21 '25

So youve never seen a maverick or santa cruz before…

2

u/tcarino Lamborghini May 21 '25

But then how will we know who's micromachine is bigger!?!?!

6

u/audiovox12 May 21 '25

So dramatic

2

u/omnipotent87 May 21 '25

I assure you my 89 F250 is bigger than most modern trucks.

1

u/EdsonKriiborn May 21 '25

Weird because I parked my 2020 next to a 1972 and they were the same exact size

I used to drive a F550 and pull a 20’ enclosed trailer. I needed a class B combination or class A cdl to legally tow the trailer with the truck.
