Reforged Edition Can anyone explain "derived secondary attribute"
Hi again.
We're rolling characters and first game is on thursday. I cant for the life of me understand what "derived secondary attributes" are calculated, or how they are used.
Is there a guide somewhere? We can't seem to find it in the rulebook.

What are you using to make your characters?

The main book, and character sheets

Chargen is outlined on page 22 of Reforged, unless you are using another edition.

Yeah, we as a group just don't understand it. I've even tried to upload the chapter it to chat gpt. And it fumbles every explanation.

Tier & Ancestry - write that you are Basic tier (unless you are starting higher) and roll for your Ancestry. Then roll for your Ancestral Talent and note it's effects
Appearance - roll for your Build and Distinguishing Mark
Attributes - roll 2d10+30 for each attributes, or use the standard array. Your Secondary Attributes are equal to the tens place of each attribute (40 Brawn has a Brawn Bonus of 4)
Social Class - roll for Social Class and starting Silver
Upbringing - roll for Upbringing and starting Armor
Profession - roll for starting Profession (roll 3 times and choose one), gain your Profession's Tools (roleplay based non-mechanical items)
Damage & Peril Condition Tracks - calculate your Damage and Peril Thresholds
Initiative Modifier - calculate your Initiative Modifier
Age - roll for Age
Brush With Death - roll for Brush With Death
First Scar - roll for your First Scar
Memento - select a memento associated with your Brush With Death
Tragic Flaw & Inner Strength - roll for your Tragic Flaw and Inner Strength
Name & Bond Talent - decide on a name and select a Bond Talent to share with another Player's Survivor and note it's effects
Profession Details & Skills - note all of the advances associated with your Profession and all 6 skill ranks and your Ancestral Talent (gained from your Ancestry)
General Talents - Unlock One General Talent associated with your Profession, if your Profession is marked with a + you must unlock the appropriate Magic talent
Weapons & Supplies - decide on either a melee or ranged weapon and roll for it, then gain the starting Supplies that all characters gain
For Spellcasters - determine the spells you begin the game with and note their effects
Scar Effects & Finalize - note the effects of your First Scar and, if allowed, redistribute your Attributes or select a different Tragic Flaw or Inner Strength or some other aspect of your character.
It is a relatively straightforward process that follows the summary in order from pg. 22 to 84. Let me know if you have specific questions.

We just don't understand what the 'derived secondary attribute' is, how its used, and how its calculated. Thank you for writing the step by step, I'm sure it'll help on Thursday when we sit down to start our new campaign.

The only secondary derived attribute that I'm aware of is the Attribute Bonus, which is used for various things in game (it will be denoted by [AB] [BB] or the like, meaning Agility Bonus, Brawn Bonus, etc.) and that is determined by looking at the tens value of your Attribute, so if you have an Agility of 43%, your Agility Bonus or [AB] is 4. Does that help?

And if I get +1 [AB] it doesn't make my agility 53%, right? I also have a question about spending rp. The book says that each ability costs x rp depending on the tier. After that there are several points, one of which says you open all 6 skill ranks. Do I spend x rp for each skill rank or for all of them at once Pardon me for my sloppy English.

Correct, +1 AB just increased your AB to 5, ot does not affect the attribute.
Each skill rank is purchased separately.

Do I understand correctly that in this case you need to complete at least 66 game sessions to close advanced tier completely, provided that you start from basic tier?
