HELP Still worth it?
Hello all. I'm a comp sci major and per the new school semester, I am required(?) to take an Apple development class, which requires Xcode and thus a Mac. I didn't look into my class requirements ahead of time so I'm unable to do any assignments away from the school's lab. Mac devices are insanely overpriced, but I am willing to invest in a Mini if I am unable to somehow turn my laptop into a hackintosh.
After scrolling through the sub for a bit before posting, I see a great number of people throwing in the towel and buying Mac products. What's the reason behind this? And would it prevent me from using my laptop for my coding?
Specs:
Device name MSI
Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H 2.70 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)
Device ID C8D2C814-004C-4FE0-9CDE-FE33907057CC
Product ID 00342-20827-76369-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I think every 12 Gen Intel is cannot boot mac?
You could just run it on vm but the performance is abysmal

It depends on the gpu your computer has. If it can use integrated graphics and disable the discrete gpu, or if you have none, you should be fine

The reason you'd be prevented from using your laptop for Xcode coding is that hackintosh on a 12th gen Intel CPU laptop is not supported. If it were a desktop PC, you could swap in a compatible video card, but not so on a laptop.
If a Mac mini is your plan B, then that's probably going to be your plan A now.

Nope. 12th Gen Intel iGPUs are unsupported. If the class really requires you to use Xcode bite the bullet and buy a Mac with education savings

Yeah, you could probably get this running as a Hack but with only 16GB RAM and a mediocre processor, I think you'd be way better off with a Mini. The Mini ended the idea that Macs are overpriced. With an EDU discount you can get a machine for under $500 that will run circles around a Hack. Hackintosh is a dying art at this point. Get a Mini and spend your time learning to code.

Why in the heavens would you be REQUIRED to take a course in Apple ecology?
Xcode requires MacOS, three's no way around it. And your Hack has to pass muster to be compatible with Apple's iCloud services in order to be able to use the App Store.
Since you fancy yourself a coder you can google the Dorthania Guide to see if your machine can pass muster. (this requires that you know your machine at the component level)
Or you can try your hand with Open Core Simplify.
This process will stand a decent chance of letting you know if your system can Hack it.
