I am unsure if I should be concerned

So I (23f) went for my yearly physical and this year they ordered basic blood tests. I unfortunately made the mistake of looking at my results over the weekend before my doctor has a chance to look at them and it is making me nervous.

Everything except my platelets is considered normal on the test. For some the low end of normal but normal. For this lab, it says high platelets is considered to be 440k per mcl and my results said 445k.

However, a little less than two weeks ago at the time the test was done, I had donated double red bloodcell. Then my monthly cycle hit. I normally donate platelets so I know my typical range is low 400s but this time they needed double red, so that's what I gave. Is it reasonable to assume the slightly high platelets is due to the recent donation?

Help interpreting results please

32F. Wondering if this could mean anything beyond eat better and start exercising more. I am very overweight and all of this has been a huge wake up call and I am determined to turn it around.

No symptoms. These were ordered as part of annual checkup. I have a follow up appointment scheduled on Tuesday.

Haven’t been sick recently but do have a 5 year old who brings home school germs constantly.

Particularly the high platelets and elevated lymphocytes have me feeling on edge.

WBC was 9.5 and platelets were 454 in May 2024 so slight increases in both of these.

Lymphocytes have not been checked in years but were 3700 in May 2021.

Does MCV fluctuate naturally over time?

MCV values , in samples should be the most consistent variables from CBC to CBC in short time frames, but do MCVs fluctuate up and down within the normal ranges for natural biological reasons? Say if you did a CBC 3-6 months apart. Seeing MCV fluctuate is common?

Chronic elevated WBC & Platelets

Hi, I’ve had elevated white blood cells (12–25) and platelets (410–512) consistently for over 6 years. Neutrophils are consistently high, with mild increases in monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. No blasts have ever been seen. JAK2 mutation was negative; ESR is 37 (elevated). Iron, ferritin normal levels, not anemic.

I'm tired beyond words my doctors never took it seriously before until recently. I have been so tired sleeping around 9 to 10 hours, yesterdey I slept 15hr. I was sent to hematologist but appointment is 5 months from now, should I be concerned?

WBC: 12.79 ↑ (4.3–10.0)

RBC: 4.63 (normal)

Hemoglobin: 13.1 (normal)

Hematocrit: 41% (normal)

MCV: 88 (normal)

MCH: 28.3 (normal)

MCHC: 32.3 ↓ borderline (32.2–36.5)

Platelets: 451 ↑ (150–400)

RDW: 13.6 (normal)

Differential:

Neutrophils: 60% → 7.75 ↑ (1.8–7.0)

Lymphocytes: 26% → 3.28 (normal)

Monocytes: 7% → 0.87 ↑ (0–0.80)

Eosinophils: 6% → 0.74 ↑ (0–0.50)

Basophils: 1% → 0.11 (upper normal)

Immature granulocytes: 0.04 (normal)

Nucleated RBC: 0

32 y/o male 5'10 300 lbs.

Symptoms: Fatigue, breathlessness, leg cramps, restless legs, excessive yawning, muscle aches, low energy.

Had a trial of ferrous sulfate earlier this year for approximately 3 months. Labs were tested a few weeks ago. My iron has been continuing to decline over time, and my symptoms have been worsening.

Declining WBCs and Platelets- Additional Testing Needed? Or is it overkill?

Thumbnail

I have been noticing declining WBCs and platelets lately. My PCP is a if it isn’t outside the reference range I don’t care about the trend type of person.

Should I potentially be requesting any additional testing given the downward trend.

Would a flow cytomery be overkill?

Iron Saturation

I have been dealing with being completely tired all the time. Shortness of breath. Brain fog. I had an iron infusion July 10th.

Why are my levels already going down? My iron saturation is lower than before the infusion.

Any ideas? I do have 2 painful stomach ulcers and I see my surgeon next week, could they be slowly bleeding?

Leukemia/ Lymphoma Flow Test...

Hey there I had a blood test done yesterday and got the results back all to which came back normal except I had 0.7 blast which sounds like there should be 0? Should I be concerned about this considering everything else was normal. Thanks!

Question Splenectomy?

I (33F)was diagnosed with ITP (low platelets) back in Nov 2023. For the most part, I have been in a good spot with my platelets staying in the normal range, however, I had a recent scare after a long trip abroad (5ish weeks) where my platelets fell between 2-8. I was given IV steroid, IVIG treatment, n-plate injection, and oral steroids over the course of a week; platelets have come back up into the normal range since then.

My hematologist is recommending I get a splenectomy, however, I’m leaning towards not wanting it done due to a potential drastic lifestyle change (weaker immune system). Over the course of the last ~2 years, this is the first time since my diagnosis that my platelets have fallen this low. I genuinely think I caught something while out of the country which could have triggered this response (I had swollen lymph nodes and terrible seasonal allergies for the majority of the 5 weeks).

Has anyone diagnosed with ITP had experience with a splenectomy, and if so, how has your life changed? I personally feel my ITP is controlled enough in my day to day, and would rather try oral medication that’s available before resorting to a surgery. I have an informational appt set up with a general surgeon to learn more, but am interested to hear from anyone who has first hand experience.

EBV recurrent? Debilitating fatigue.

Any ideas on these labs. Ongoing fatigue for 2+ years. Fatigue increased significantly past 2 months.

PCP literally told me she didn’t know today. That she would treat with steroids and an antiviral because it wouldn’t hurt anything. I have had first visit with hematologist, follow up scheduled.

Question Anxious about bloodwork

My platelets are 499 and my WBC is 13.2. My WBC decreased from last time, but my platelets have remained the same. I don’t see my PCP until the end of next month. She said I will be okay. I do think I have an iron deficiency due to prolonged periods. We’ve fixed the period issues, but I’m waiting for my PCP to do an anemia panel. Anyways, I have health anxiety because I’m constantly scared my blood is going to be sticky and clot up due to my high platelets. Should I be concerned? I’m scared I’ll have a heart attack any minute now and won’t make it back to my PCP. She assured me it’s slightly elevated and I would be okay until my visit next month. My anxiety is making be second guess and I’m constantly doing body scans to make sure I don’t have a heart attack or even a stroke.

My WBC may of been higher than normal because I was really sick with flu like symptoms are the time. I have taken antibiotics, but both my WBC and platelets are elevated. I guess I just need some clarification. I wish I would have never googled high platelets and the effects. My grandmother and grandfather both had a stroke so it really scared me. Sorry for the rant.

Taking ibuprofen with platelet count 90,000.

My platelets have slowly gone down form 200k down to 90k from most recent blood work. PCP says to monitor it. In the mean time I threw my back out yesterday and is in a lot of pain. Tylenol doesn’t seem to do it and I had terrible sleep last night. Am ok to take a single dose of ibuprofen before bed? Feel like that would be more helpful.

Can someone help me interpret all these results please my sex drive used to be 24/7. never had a problem with getting/staying wet and always was turned on easily. the last few months things changed. I started getting cysts on my ovaries and had a complex 5.5cm cystic mass and idk if it did damage to my ovaries or why my hormones arent working as well anymore. its ruining my quality of life and sex life with my bf. I feel so old at only 24 and i have no idea whats going on in my body im trying to put the pieces together...im not on any birth control btw and havent been for years. I miss feeling like my old self and this is super depressing to me. for context im 24F, 97LBs 5"5. BMI is 16...one dr told me im moderate anorexic but idk if thats the cause of my symptoms.... my periods have also shortened dramatically in the last few months. used to be 4 days of bleeding and 1 day of light bleeding, than progressed to 3 days bleeding 1 day light. than 2 days and now i bleed for 1 day only. super sad about this would appreciate input & thoughts...

Can anyone help me with this

Hello, I’m struggling with chronically low ferritin, feeling fatigued and aneamic for the last 10 years. 36female, weight 99kg 170cm, don’t smoke and no alcohol, not athletic and no other health concerns. Have very heavy periods which is probably causing the iron deficiency, but the rest of my red cell indices don’t support how awful I feel. I usually get iron supplements and sent on my way. From my December results I had a months worth of ferrous fumerate, 200mg twice a day. I was prescribed longer but felt better so stopped. I’ve had a few months of heavy periods since then but my August results are a little elevated. I’m not really sure what to make of it, if anything, but historically my labs have always been elevated rbc count, low MCV and low ferritin. Can anyone help me interpret, gp has asked for a blood smear which I’m waiting on results for, but I’ve no idea why or what questions I need to be asking. Gp has never had any concerns about my slightly elevated rbc and I don’t know if I should be pushing for further testing.

The nurse practitioner is hard to get a hold of. I (43F 130 lbs) currently take a liquid iron supplement but it hasn't been absorbing... I was told to try a ferrous gluconate... In theory, it should take a few weeks to feel better if this works right?

Right now I am beyond exhausted no matter what I do.

Neutropenia in 6-week old

You all were so helpful in my question about anemia in my one month old… as a follow-up, my now 6-week old son is now presenting with neutropenia (and now granulcytopenia)… at 4 weeks his ANC was 1030, then 1400 at 5 weeks, and 720 at 6 weeks. He was born with an ANC of 12,000. He had some respiratory distress at birth and was treated with antibiotics for a week in case there was underlying pneumonia. He recovered quickly and was home in a week. He started famotidine 4 days ago and his older siblings have colds currently. The baby has no symptoms of illness but we started isolating 3 days ago when the other kids showed symptoms. His eosinophils and monocytes are zero now after being normal and/or elevated the past two weeks. His hemoglobin is holding stable at 9.7 (9.8 last week and 11.4 the week before). Platelets are normal. Lymphocytes nearly 10,000 (up from about 7000 last week). Any ideas what could be going on? We are waiting for an appt with hematology but extremely worried with a neutropenic baby and two young sick kids in the home.

An App to Understand and Track your blood work results

I faced a problem where I had a hard time finding certain biomarkers in my medical reports and also struggled to remember their trends over the past couple of years.

To address this problem, I built an app with the following features:

  1. Upload or Add Data – You can upload your medical reports in PDF format, or enter biomarkers manually.
  2. Review & Edit – The app extracts biomarkers and displays them on screen, where you can double-check and make manual corrections if needed.
  3. View Trends – Finally, you see the cleaned up results along with individual trend graphs for each biomarker over time.

Available now on the App Store — download here: https://apps.apple.com/in/app/bloodtrends/id6748859800
