What's everyone's Sunday night show these days?

Has HBO dropped the new Sunday night show? I only see a few shows that don't appeal to the masses. What are you watching tonight?

Starting deadwood for the first time

9

u/telric 2d ago

Don't forget to watch the movie that wraps up the series after all the episodes. It's been a few years since my last rewatch, and I can't remember if the movie is listed with the original series or if you have to look for it.

u/Iratewilly34 1d ago

I think it's separate but they have a similar shows section that should have it listed at the top. They should be combined though since the movie is just a couple of episodes tied together. Love how it ties the series but would've preferred 7 seasons.

Ok, just started it. Thanks for planting the seed!

Can be combative

So jealous, enjoy. It's just below the Wire for me for best show ever made.

u/throwawayacct600 1d ago

I like the cut of your jib

4

u/Spunndaze 2d ago

Oh, really? I haven't watched it! You may be on to something!

9

u/Dissonant_Lucidity 2d ago

Should be mandatory viewing with subscription. Among the best ever shows produced. You’re in for a treat!

3

u/Alternative_Chest341 1d ago

Same here. Also Boardwalk Empire. Not sure how I missed those when they were originally on.

1

u/Iratewilly34 1d ago

Lucky you, don't forget the movie as well.

Barry

Though I’m watching an episode a night before I go to sleep and will be sad when it ends bc I’m out of good 30 min shows

18

u/creaky_turtle 2d ago

Hacks is good and also short episodes

17

u/CeeUNTy 2d ago

Check out Mr In-between if you haven't already. It's an Australian show about the day to day life of a hitman so it's similar to Barry. It's on Hulu.

2

u/Tha_Sly_Fox 1d ago

Will do!

11

u/LouQuacious 2d ago

Bored to Death and High Maintenance are both good 30min shows

3

u/anon8232 2d ago

Loved High Maintenance! Haven’t seen Bored to Death yet.

3

u/princessinpjs 1d ago

Crashing is a really good show if you haven’t seen it yet, really funny!

21

u/ethaaaaaaaaaan 2d ago

Task starts soon. Hoping that fills the void.

u/Czarguy2 2d ago

Unfortunately, HBO has really fallen off from the Sunday night Marquee shows.

32

u/jamiestar9 2d ago

HBO needs to own 36-42 of the Sunday nights per year. That is 4 high quality shows. I hope they get back to that and not cede Sunday nights.

3

u/Turbulent_Tale6497 1d ago

To get 42 weeks, they'd need like 6 high quality shows, based on current season length

2

u/jamiestar9 1d ago

Well, if The Pitt shifted to Sunday nights that first season would have been 15 Sundays right there.

9

u/noddaborg 2d ago

No kidding. HBO used to own Sunday nights.

14

u/Spunndaze 2d ago

They have. Its horrible.

12

u/Educational-Hour-293 2d ago

I was late to finding the Knick and now I’m sad it’s over. And sad Gilded Age is over. I need a new show to obsess over.

6

u/Fancy_Measurement723 2d ago

Loved The Knick! And really miss it!

6

u/Educational-Hour-293 2d ago

I hate that it barely got any attention. I stumbled onto it completely by accident. Amazing show.

3

u/chase_what_matters 2d ago

Well it was a Cinemax show, so a lot of people missed it when it originally aired. It only came to HBO (or Max) a few years ago.

I think they showed the pilot on HBO originally, and that was enough for me to find… ehhem, alterantive methods of watching. It was an incredible show.

2

u/Educational-Hour-293 2d ago

That makes sense. Cinemax gets ignored.

1

u/ilost190pounds 1d ago

The Knock is one of my all time favorites!

11

u/Internal_Focus_8358 2d ago

Just finished Somebody, Somewhere 💗

5

u/akanobody11 1d ago

Such a great show

40

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 2d ago

Gilded Age but it ended 🥲 I need something new

5

u/savingewoks 2d ago

I cancelled the day after it ended. Nothing on MAX I care about until The Pitt comes back in January, and I’m sure there will be a Black Friday discount in a few months.

2

u/DougyTwoScoops 2d ago

Oh really, nice I can watch it now.

2

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 2d ago

Why couldn’t you watch it before?

3

u/DougyTwoScoops 2d ago

I didn’t want to wait week to week

2

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 2d ago

Yeah that was tough. It was a good season. Big cliffhanger at the end.

2

u/Spunndaze 2d ago

Me toooooo 😭

-6

u/CarbonInTheWind 2d ago

I need season two!

11

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO 2d ago

You mean season 4? There’s already been three seasons of it.

19

u/cinemacriterion 2d ago

The Yogurt Shop Murders which ends tonight. I know a lot of people on here aren’t impressed, but I’m enjoying it.

4

u/pumpkin3-14 2d ago

I thought it’s been well done. There’s damn near zero evidence so to form 4 hours around this is pretty good.

3

u/scarface5631 2d ago

Sound like a shit show based on assumption.

1

u/Hairy_Till3021 1d ago

I’ve been watching this one too

16

u/NCLAXMOM26 2d ago

Just started season 4 of Six Feet Under. Yes it's my first time, but I was busy having kids and watching all their shows when it was on, so now that they are all grown, I'm catching up on stuff I missed back on the day lol

Btw, if anyone else hasn't seen it yet, it is fantastic. Not quite as good as the Sopranos but almost as good as The Wire, IMO anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

6

u/AcanthocephalaLost36 2d ago

It’s so good!! Great ready for the waterworks..

4

u/Willylowman1 2d ago

best ending evuh

15

u/Account_Haver420 2d ago

Succession classic episodes lol

6

u/Britpop_Shoegazer 2d ago

I started watching The Knick - didn't catch it when it premiered in 2015. It's excellent. Quite macabre and not for the faint of heart though.

3

u/chase_what_matters 2d ago

Excellent soundtrack.

1

u/AcanthocephalaLost36 2d ago

If you like that something tells me you enjoy Peaky Blinders!

2

u/Britpop_Shoegazer 1d ago

Never seen it!

27

u/Bruskthetusk 2d ago

The Sopranos

7

u/pumpkin3-14 2d ago

Yogurt shop last 4 weeks. Pretty sparse before and after that though. Maybe IT in October.

6

u/SgtPolly 2d ago

Just finished the first season of Falling Skies. How did I miss this, it’s pretty good. I love all the practical effects and sets. CG isn’t horrible either.

6

u/BlarbequeBlibs 2d ago

I am really happy Peacemaker is back. Sopranos during the week, but I don’t love it as much as most people seem to. I’m about to start season 4.

1

u/galaaus 1d ago

But season 3 is pretty awesome.

2

u/BlarbequeBlibs 1d ago

I just find the characters so unlikable. Paulie, Carmela, and AJ are my favorites but the rest of the people suck. I’m probably watching it too late. It’s not bad, but my expectations were really high.

3

u/BlackMile47 1d ago

Feel like you're maybe missing the point...

1

u/BlarbequeBlibs 1d ago

I mean that they are predictable and uninteresting. I liked Succession and other mobster related stuff..

5

u/RedditBurner_5225 2d ago

Literally looking for something now that Gildead Age is over!

And not interested in the the Yougurt shop murders.

5

u/RealCleverUsernameV2 2d ago

Currently rewatching Deadwood.

5

u/tolo4daboys 1d ago

Rewatching The Gilded Age (entire series) since the Season 3 finale two weeks ago. ☹️

It’s going to be a while until Season 4 starts.

11

u/Accomplished-City484 2d ago

Just Last Week Tonight, while I wait for Task to start

4

u/harriett_gavigan 2d ago

We just watched all four seasons of the “Long Way” shows with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman on motorcycles touring the world. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Long Way Round

Long Way Down

Long Way Up

Long Way Home

2

u/BlackMile47 1d ago

So good! I love how this last season you can tell they are just older and chill now, and the show is way more safe. No riding through Mongolia or through Rwanda. Just pastries and sightseeing lol

8

u/jhutch524 2d ago

Carnivále

3

u/OrangeInQC 2d ago

My subscription was going to renew in September and I got an email reminder. It made me realize we haven’t had a good Sunday show to watch in a couple of months and don’t see any good ones coming up so we canceled.

3

u/Own-Lingonberry8002 1d ago

One episode of The West Wing (watching for the first time 25 years late!) + one episode of The Residence.

3

u/ltmikestone 1d ago

I just started Boardwalk Empire. Like it 4-5 episodes in

6

u/Robsslobbyknobs 2d ago

Finally getting around to watching The Sopranos.

u/G0mery 2d ago

Last week tonight

-10

u/nl5hucd1 2d ago

How often is there a non cringe epsiode?

2

u/BlackMile47 1d ago

Every week. How often are you misusing the word cringe?

1

u/G0mery 2d ago

Depends on what makes you cringe. It reminds me of The Daily Show heyday, when JS was ripping GWB and his cast of buffoons nightly in what now can only be described as the good old days.

-3

u/nl5hucd1 2d ago

All his topics are so serious and it’s just not as light hearted as it was in the earlier times

5

u/scarface5631 2d ago

Have you taken a look at the world around you recently?

-4

u/nl5hucd1 2d ago

The world has been bad forever and will be when we are gone. If i want the news i’ll watch it. Even Bill Maher is still funny despite all that’s going on.

2

u/Few-Might2630 1d ago

Oz is worth a rewatch too.

2

u/wessss21 1d ago

Entourage for the fourth or fifth time

3

u/MFBish 2d ago

I think White Lotus is a Sunday nighter

2

u/ItsInTheVault 2d ago

It is a Sunday nighter but I was pretty disappointed in season three. Hoping season four writing is better.

2

u/Few_West_4990 2d ago

Everything sucks now

1

u/Turbulent_Tale6497 1d ago

HBO should legit just re-show old shows on Sunday

Sopranos at 8 (starting over, in order)

Then cycle through Chernobyl, Rome, White Lotus, etc. at 9

Old John Olivers at 10

1

u/Spunndaze 1d ago

That's exactly what they should do. Many people (me included) want a collective watching live tweeting/Reddit posting experience while watching our Sunday show.

u/Potential_Minimum651 1d ago

Gentleman Jack

1

u/lou_salome_ 1d ago

Not HBO, but Twin Peaks.

1

u/Iratewilly34 1d ago

HBO still has Sunday night shows, but most just stream it anyways, but House of the dragon, the Dune show that follows the Bennegeserits around spreading the gospel of Paul or whoever was supposed to take the mantle. I suppose we'll see that Paul chooses in the 3rd movie. They also have another series coming out that's from the world of the game of thrones following Dunk and Egg around called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. What night was Pitt on? That may not be a Sunday series but it should be. The White Lotus is a Sunday series isn't it? Peacemaker should be, but it's confusing with the whole HBO and HBO Max and now they have a hundred other stations that makes it difficult to tell when a show premiers. seems like Thursday and Friday are the new Sunday which is odd since Friday used to be the death knell of a series. The thing is people can watch a show whenever they want to so the night no longer matters but I do believe HBO still has a few series that premiere on Sundays. It's just not like when they had the wire, sopranos, Deadwood, amongst other gems, like Game of Thrones years later. Still they have some series coming and I forgot one the last of us s a Sunday night series as well isn't it? Like I said though, doesn't matter when a shows released, because people will watch it whenever they want and oftentimes they will wait for the season to be over to start watching .
