Im a little concerned about those metal bar frames round the lights with no support... never seen a flush fit nudge bar like that.

I had a similar bar on the front of my commodore Ute many many a year ago. It was officially called a roo bar. But I ended up calling it a “get home bar”

They are designed to protect the vital components of the radiator core and the engine in the event of an animal strike.

They are also designed to crumple and flex. If you cop an impact on the corner it will flex back and smash everything behind it and then bounce back ready for the next hit. Think bumper, headlight, bonnet and quarter panel will all need to be replaced and the bar itself also.

But you will be able to drive home.

Had a few impacts with Roos over the years and this was my experience.

Edited to fix autocorrect screw up.

Better than bare I guess for roo strikes.

But compared to a full steel bumper with loops and all, not quite the same. I've bent back my steel bumper on several occasions and still have my original light clusters. No roos round my parts to test the theory, but I've whacked a tree stump and rock or two with it and it's come out fine.

True I was happy to have something over nothing.

My next ute was a Hilux and had a 3” 5 post heavy duty Bull bar which was very solid. That thing took everything and just laughed and kept going. Roos emus wallabies and big feral pigs. Never budged.

But I had a lot of respect for that old bar. 3 roo strikes over about 3-4 years and I never had to get a tow. I did eventually replace the headlights because after one strike the internals of the light were a shattered mess.

Last couple of Utes have both had ARB summit bars installed on them. But my night driving is significantly less nowadays so thankfully I haven’t tested them fully.

That bar looks fascinating. Like one of those old pajero bars. Never seen that on a Hilux before.

I had to look them up but yes I agree

I loved the design of those pajero bars. Very classic. Definitely not as functional as a full-on bull bar but in countries with strict regulations, this kind of nudge bar would work well. It's a bit worrying what would happen to the front in a crash though. Depends on how rigid the bar is and if testing has been done.
