Hey has anyone with a single cab n70 and bench seat swapped to a passenger bucket seat? I've tried to put a centre console in and the bolt holes where the bench was dont line up for a n70 bucket, and obviously cant put the bench in with a console? Ideas please?? šŸ™

Hello, new hilux owner looking for some advice

I want to do so much to it but I know I should just drive it for a few months first.

I'm mainly interested in cosmetics with some practicality of course.

Stuff like angry eyes headlights Himond tail lights Tints Weather gaurds Bonnet protector Carplay Dashcam Etc

Alot of small things like missing toyta decals as well

Also intend on doing bigger things like replacing the bar with an ARB one and getting a lift.

I'm located near Liverpool in Sydney Anyone have any recommendations on people/ places that would be good to go to for these things

Would also like some ideas for more accessories/mods. Thanks

First hilux

Been looking to buy a Hilux produced around 2001-2004 as I prefer how the older models look and also how reliable i hear they are. Saw a nice 2004 Manual SR5 3.0 TD model for around $17,000 with 250,000kms on it. It’s all original and does look very well looked after but hasn’t had any replacements yet which makes me think i might need to soon. I’m not sure if it’s worth spending this much on one of these older utes but i’m very tempted. Also debating whether i go diesel or petrol with initial costs and running cost ect. I’m not super fussy with power windows and all that so leaning towards one without maybe to help with the price ect, any advice on what you think i should buy and the price range i should look for would be great

Just bought 96 hilux surf 4wd, how much of it is interchangeable with 4 runner/Tacoma

I’m not sure what I got my self into, but i know I wanted a Toyota that was reliable. I’m somewhat handy if there’s a YouTube video and I have the tools I can do it. The hilux has 114000 km on it, I know it’s going to need some work in the future but I’m not sure if I can just go into AutoZone for anything. Looking for some advice.

Hilux 2018 - Help

Hi all,

I'm planning on selling my Hilux and I let potential buyers who are friend of mine use it one afternoon 3 days ago.

I've had the car for 2 years and never had any problems with it. Maintenance done at Toyota in Costa Rica and always been well maintained and cared for.

This morning, I start the car and:
- Service Warning Light ON
- Check Engine Light ON
- Gear shifter feels very shaky and trembling more than usual.

I asked friend quickly if anything happens while using the car but said no. I didn't drive the car yet to see but pressing the gas pedal seems like it was underpowered somehow. I unplugged the battery for 30 minutes and plug back in, no change on the service warning light. I tried to reset the service warning by putting it on Trip A, long press and ignition but again the service warning stays on.

Hilux is 2018, workmate.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. My car tinkering level is -3 out 10. I will take it to a mechanic next week but checking if there is anything I can check in the meantime.

Are these damaged? There's no noise or issue while driving but I think this is not letting me move the caster to the max for clearance for bigger tires

Question: Does the OME Lift Kit for Hilux improve its ride?

I was thinking of buying an old Hilux, and upgrading its suspension to this Old Man Emu lift kit. Will this improve its ride quality and comfort? Planning to use it as a daily car for medium to heavy work such as carrying.

What's the better option between Maxxis Razr AT and Radar Renegade RT.

I got Radar right now and 2 tires with high road force causing vibration. I have two options either replace the 2 tires or change all 4 to Maxxis.

What is the name of this particular part? Is it like an extended chassis mount? Got it from an Insta post from Thailand.

Do any other US Hilux owners have this problem??

I imported a '98 Hilux Surf a few years ago, and have never had any issues. Passed emissions in my county multiple times, even a month ago.

I recently got a letter in the mail that I've never seen before, even after living in Colorado for 20+ years. Apparently a citizen can report a smoking vehicle to the state, as it would be harmful to the environment, and have no chance of passing emissions...

The only issue is my Surf is a diesel...

I just wished the letter included my truck's make, model, and plate, so that I could frame this.

Any other US-based diesel Hilux owners experience this??

Wanna add, this isn't annoying in the slightest to me. I'm not looking for fixes because the letter is just a heads up that my gasoline vehicle isn't running right. I just found it amusing

2003 Hilux Base Vehicle for Camper Conversion

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a good offer on a 2003 Hilux with the 2KD-FTV engine. My original plan was to find an older LN106 or even an LN65, since I’m a big fan of simple, old-school rigs. But after some research I realised the 2.4 NA diesel might not have enough power to carry an overhang camper cabin.

2003 still feels ā€œnewā€ to me, but I do like the idea of the 2KD engine and the better driving comfort compared to the older models.

A few questions:

  • Can someone help me pinpoint the exact model code for this Hilux? I’ve come across codes like N1xx or N90.
  • What are the common issues with this generation and engine?
  • The one I’m looking at seems to be an SR5 (leather seats, etc.) with some mods already done: lift kit, snorkel, front and rear bars. Is that a good base for a camper setup?
  • Anything specific I should look out for with this generation?

I’ve read that these don’t have a solid front axle, but considering the style of cabin I want to mount, I won’t be doing hardcore off-roading anyway.

Thanks a lot for any input šŸ™

Hey all, have a Ln106 and it’s currently drawing current out my battery. l i used a different battery to try start and it still didn’t start but trying to just sounds like flat battery sound. took that battery out and battery terminals were a little melted and leads were hot. thinking it’s a overcharging alternator but wondering if there’s another underlying issue as the alternator was replaced not long before my ownership (5 months ago, haven’t driven much) any help is appreciated. Reply if i haven’t clearly explained it šŸŖ‘ā€™s

Tapping into the 48v battery system

Anyone built up a camper on a v-active hilux and tapped into the 48v system for camper power?

Any tips or pit falls?
Is it even possible/practical? (They have an inbuilt 220v accessory socket) Or is it better to just go a PPS?

Timing belt replacement help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Im trying to replace the timing belt on my own on my 94 hilux Surf. The belt that was in there and the replacment belt were both unmarked so I put a mark on the one that was in there when the gears were at top dead center then copied to marks onto the new belt. Now when I rotate the engine by hand they dont line up. Not sure what I can do about that so any advice is welcomed.

New rims arriving next week, would be nice to wrap them in some new rubber as well.

Looking at a 265/70/17.. in the $350 to $500 range.

Either a Rugged Terrain or an Aggressive AT. The vehicle does more road work, then serious mud bogs!

PFA!

Is this an EFI issue?

2002 hilux. 2.7litre EFI petrol. Power curve has a flat spot at 3000rpm. Power can noticeably kick in at 3250-3500 but it's inconsistent. Sometimes it doesn't even kick in at all.

My guess is that the inconsistency may have to do with the EFI or one of the systems supporting it but I'm no mechanic. My mechanic doesn't seem interested. Just wants to set it per the manual.

Is it possible to set it differently? I'd really like to have a smoother power curve preferably kicking in at around 3000. And for it to be consistent...
