What current NHL player will you defend no matter what?
Your emotional support player, if you will. It doesn't even have to be a current player on your favorite team. Just someone you will always support and defend so long as their in the league.
Also, not talking about supporting decisions or the players opinions outside of hockey. Strictly hockey related support!

Kopitar. Class act of a player.

u/JediMasterZao MTL - NHL 1d ago edited 1d ago
The thing with Kopi is that he's basically perfect. He's the cleanest player in the league, he's a Selke and Stanley Cup winner, he's a point producer, he's a vet. No one has ever said one bad thing about Kopitar throughout his entire career, which means he doesn't need defending.
Corey Perry, on the other hand, is a saint.

Agreed. Even the massive bags under his eyes have disappeared from his early years. That man either got himself a CPAP machine or a 12 Step program.
Either way, it's impressive to stick with those for so long as a human being, let alone All Star caliber athlete with money to burn and a city like LA to spend it.

I grew up in Southern California as a big Kings and Padres fan. Kopitar is to the Kings as Gwynn was to the Padres, imo at least. An all-time great, as a player and a role model.

To me he's like Tim Duncan of the NBA.
Absolutely a class act, team leader and franchise player with multiple championships to show for it. But, he leaves it at that and lets the results speak for themselves. He doesn't showboat, give big interviews or gets in the press on his own accord.

He had a bit of a renaissance last year, but he struggled for a season or 2 before that. People were complaining about his bloated contract. And if I'm being honest, even last year when things were going better, he was still overpaid.
My take on this is if the Montreal Canadiens have to overpay someone, they might as well overpay Brendan Gallagher. Price may have been the team's foundation, but Gallagher was the heart and soul of that team during the 2010s.

I think Kris Letang has been criminally underrated for a long time. Honestly, heās one of the most underrated players in NHL history in my opinion.
He was the best defenseman on a team that was one of the best teams in the NHL for 12 years. That doesnāt just happen. He also led the team in ice time every year for all those years. Again, you donāt do that with someone whoās not an excellent player.
Letang definitely made his share of mental mistakes and when he did, they were often glaring. However, he was also an outstanding two-way defenseman who created a lot of breakouts for his team.
Thereās no way the Penguins have all that success without that guy. Not even close.
The Penguins almost always beat those Capitals teams in the playoffs and I always thought it was because Washington didnāt have an answer for Letang. He just does a lot of things for your team that leads to wins. Heās a hell of a skater. He moves the puck beautifully. Heās feisty as hell in his own end and plays way above his weight class. Thatās why he was always on their first team, power-play and penalty kill, and on their top defense pairing.
Just a very reliable player in all three zones.

The answer is Noone. Even if I respect a player like Linus Ullmark alot, I cant say I would defend him "no matter what". If he started to sexually assault players and perhaps even the referee I think he should be banned for a suitable time.

Dylan Larkin. I think he gives us everything he has every time heās on the ice. I have a lot of respect for him. Iāve also watched him grow up in the system, so maybe that makes me like him a little more. I am not saying heās the most skilled, but heās got some tools and all of the heart.
