Are these compatible with MQTT?

Post image

I am unable to get them to be discovered in with ZigbeeMQTT. Is this not possible?

Hmmm, I wonder then if it is discoverable with a different interpretation...🤔

It says it's matter compatible right there on the box.

Sorry, I'm pretty new. I haven't heard of matter. 😬

Then you need to do research into matter!

Phillips Wiz ≠ Phillips Hue

Wiz is Bluetooth and WiFi, you might be able to connect to them that way, but you won't be able to connect to them via Zigbee.

Wiz is entirely wifi and Bluetooth, not Zigbee like the Hue line.

I don't have those bulbs, but I have other wiz bulbs and they work fine locally with the wiz integration.

Download the wiz app on your phone, use it to connect the bulbs to WiFi and they should show up as a new device in home assistant. After setup, I block Internet from the device in my router and they work fine locally.

u/MTBRider4Fun First, you're going to have to add them to your WiFi network via the WiZ app. After that, you have the choice of adding them to Home Assistant via the WiZ Integration or through Matter after creating a Matter code within the WiZ app. Either will provide local control within Home Assistant which is preferable as they will work without needing the Internet aka Cloud. They are not capable of supporting Zigbee (Zigbee2MQTT).

Also need enable local control in app options for the house instance

You can add them to HA with 2 different methods. And both work locally. You can use the Wiz integration or you can use Matter.

If you're not sure which you'll like more, just use both and see what options you get. Keep both or get rid of one depending on stability or options.

Why would they show up in MQTT? They’re Matter devices that Matter over WiFi.

You have now :-)

For people of a certain age, "you are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike" might ring a bell.

This is somewhat how zigbee, zwave, matter, wifi, mesh networks... all this stuff is a bit confusing to people just entering the smart-device space. Don't be afraid to ask!

Actually I think this is the “maze of twisty little passages, all different.”

It’s an integration method. But you’ll have to expose them via MQTT via a custom addon or script (if that’s what you really need)

I use Wiz bulbs in HA, they work fantastic

it's matter over wifi. it's just as good as MQTT

Mom can we get Philips hue?

We have Philips hue at home

I have the Philips hub and the hub is compatible with home assistant. I prefer this strategy because if my server ever goes down, people in the house don’t freak out.

Wiz is not the same as Hue.
