Best way to fix this missing baseboard behind fridge?

Post image

Hi, sorry if this is a question that has a super obvious answer but I’m a woman that doesn’t know much about home repairs. My dad mentioned getting some type of foaming spray to close up the gaps in the floor, and then after that I could get some metal netting thing to put on the wall and apply joint compound over it. Or would I just buy a piece of baseboard and glue it to the wall?? Sorry I really don’t know anything. Any help is appreciated.

Just leave it and put the fridge back.

Unfortunately we are getting bugs in our unit that are most likely coming up from the basement, and also possibly living in the walls. We would feel a lot better with the gap closed up

Closing the gap inside won't stop bugs. Gotta find how they got into that space in the first place and seal that.

Buy a matching baseboard or any board board since its behind the fridge, nail it in, chalk and paint?

I mean..that's basically it.

Buy a baseboard. Something thin, and glue and nail to the wall.

Most bugs don't like foam. Pour some Diatomaceous earth or boric acid in the gap, foam over. I don't see the need for a metal lath. If the unit is going back in place, just get pvc 1x4 instead of matching existing. Use an oscillating saw or Japanese pull saw to level the foam. Construction adhesive will hold the 1x4. I see your father's point, but unless you become a plasterer in the next few months... Good luck.

They sell a foam specifically for blocking pests (I’m not sure if anything is different besides the color of the can).

OP, if you use foam be aware that it expands A LOT and keeps expanding after you stop spraying. Start with a tiny bit and build up. Once it’s dry you can cut or sand it, but it’s easier to just use less.
