Help with shower subfloor

Post image
Upvotes

Hello,

I had ants coming from a hole in the caulking near an upstairs shower. When I removed the caulking, I noticed the peel and stick tile, and subfloor looks like this. I am hoping to try the following to get this fixed and I am interested in knowing if there is a better way to do this. A gut isn’t on the books for another 3 years or more. The crumbling portion of the subfloor is about ~1” from the shower, but not everywhere, only a ~4” section. I was hoping to apply mold control to the subfloor and then scrub to get the area clean. I then was going to seal/prime the plywood and apply new peel and stick tile over the area. Once I’m done with this, I’ll silicone caulk. Looking for advice on how this sounds, please and thank you!

Fireplace mineral paint help

Post image

I’m thinking of doing a mineral paint on my fireplace but I’m concerned that these thick crevices will look strange. Should I fill them in with plaster first or can I just get a small brush and fill in the joints with the paint itself? I’m looking at romabio products.

Textured walls thoughts

Textured walls in new house, not usual texture. I am wanting to make flat to get it more modern. Should I skim it or sand the area down? I have never worked with drywall besides usual patch work. The textured walls are in our living room and entry room so there’s alot of square footage to take into consideration. I want to do it right but also not wanting to spend months/fortune doing it. I added a photo of a large wall with the texture on it to visualize the type of texturing that was done.

Noticed some bubbly paint while priming the bedroom in our 1912 house. Started peeling and now feeling stuck.

Forgive me, I am very green to home renovation. I’m curious what the process is to “reveal” your beams, or if it is even possible in every home.

SOS: help me fix this bathroom tile before my husband loses his mind

Post image
9 Upvotes

Admittedly, I began this before really having a clue what was going on. I thought our previous home owners had installed a toilet paper dispenser and towel rack atop painted tile in our bathroom (spoiler: they actually cut out portions of the underlying tile to install these). I hammered them all out.

Now I’m totally lost. What do I do? Can I try to remove what looks like paint on top of these tiles then spot match tiles as best as I can to fill in the gaps? What all does that even entail?

Signed, a very over ambitious DIY wife that is soon to drive her husband insane.

Thermal Barrier?

Got my insurance survey letter back today.

Have to get a new wood stove and plug the holes in my panel, no big deal but in addition to that I need to put thermal barrier on the styrofoam insulation in my basement(on the foundation). Emailed my insurance guy and he said “I’m not sure where you get it, but it I believe it’s a spray on product…. Almost like a paint!” which doesn’t really sound like what I need.

Does anybody know any brands that are suitable for this kind of job and what exactly am I looking for? Something I can buy at Home Depot or some other store. I’m in Canada btw, was told the barrier has to be approved by the National Building Code of Canada.

Replace or Embrace Textured Walls and Ceiling?

Nearly whole house has textured walls and ceilings. I’m not a fan. They look very dated, but so does all of the molding, lighting fixtures, closets, etc. do you think it’s really worth mudding/sanding or is it not as big of a deal to have textured walls and ceilings? Seems like it would be either a huge pain DIY or very expensive with a contractor.

Style: Swirls on most but the basement is patchy like Tuscan plaster I believe.

Crawlspace Access with LVP

Post image
2 Upvotes

Sorry if this isn't the sub for this, I'm not sure where to post.

We had our carpets replaced with LVP and the flooring guys adhered the LVP over our crawlspace access. We asked them to come back out and make it accessible and I guess they did technically do that.

They told me I'd need to add something to make it easier to lift up, but I'm not sure how to go about that. Honestly, the very tired part of me is saying "just ignore it until you actually need to get into the crawlspace."

What do you think?

Corner sink?

Is it possible (not too expensive or complex) to move this corner sink to under the window? It is so far from the dishwasher I’m not sure why they did it this way but maybe there’s a reason? The window opens to a game room not outside.

Walls not square in new extension

We are building a new extension which will become our new kitchen. After the cement boards were installed, we noticed that the walls are not square. We're afraid it will become even more obvious when the tiles are installed. What are our options now? Can this be fixed or are there way to make it less obvious with decor later when all is done? Thanks.

What should I do here(see bio)

This is my downstairs laundry area. My upstairs has to be moved but before I do that, I want to remodel this area… and it’s a mess. Dryer outlet is on the left, washer drain and hookups on the right. Everything else in between. The washer drain is sitting on top of my baseboard heater that I can’t open. The pex tubes are sitting on top of the baseboard as well. I have an old pellet stove wall mount right where the dryer is going to go, should I just use that for the dryer vent? What would you do here? How would you clean this up?

Advice on bathroom renovation no

Hello, looking for advice on my bathtub during a bathroom renovation. I am not sure whether to replace it with a brand new one, or make the old one work. It has a few chips which can be seen in the pictures. Is it possible to repair these with a powder coating marker? I believe this is a steel tub. The studs behind the tub look to be rotten from water damage from leaking tile. Not sure if I’ll be kicking myself later by using the same old tub. Thank you!

Foundation-What should I do here?

I’m planning on putting down landscaping fabric and rock here (keeping the plant), but the previous owner just had some brick against/under the house. I pulled out the crumbling brick and not sure what to do with this gap.

Further Down this way is into the crawl space area and just dirt- so I want to seal this area the best I can AND make sure it is graded to flow rainwater away from the house.

Any ideas?
