I agree with your point of either something other, which is why I think for the context of the role she’s playing in the story, it makes sense. At first we’re supposed to see her as a sweet woman who’s helping, who’s outgoing, yet timid, so the dress that she wears isn’t all that revealing. This is the point in the story where she goes all out on a villainous plot she sees as just, finally taking action rather than standing on the sidelines, she has the confidence to go all out to wear something more scandalous

Ok. It’s alright that you might think that, but my view, at that point, she was still playing the hero, just as her dancestor, Vriska, did when, in the timeline where she wasn’t killed and went after Bec Noir, inadvertently leading him to the troll asteroid. So, Aranea’s quote-end-quote heroic clothing becomes an ironic counterpoint to her moral failings at this moment. That’s just my take. Thank you for giving me an explanation, even though you aren’t OP. It’s probably the best explanation one could give for this.
