Which would you rather? You can understand animals, or animals can understand you?

You cant have both. Id pick animals can understand me.

Animals can understand me. I'd love nothing more than to be able to communicate with my cat like that, I could help put him to ease at the vets, explain to him why it's happening and how its a good thing. I'd tell him if he ever feels unwell to sit in a particular spot in the house and meow.

And it would help for my obsession with feeding wild animals. I'm in the UK, so its nothing dangerous. It'll speed up my befriending of crows (I moved house and lost my old murder of crows and I'm starting again here) and squirrels in my area

Yeah that was my thought process but others in my life have said they understand animals bc then the animald can tell them if something is wrong w them or what they need or if theyre happy. So i put the question to reddit! Glad others think like me!

They understand me. This way we could communicate My dogs are quite stressed right now because theres land clearing going on (to prevent fires). If I could explain it’s just for a few days and to keep us safe then they would hopefully feel better

Ok but what if you run into a wild animal that doesmt care what you have to say? Like a starbing polar bear?

What use would the alternative be in that case? You hear "Ooh, dinner!" just before you get eaten? Pretty sure I wouldn't need to understand polar bears to catch his drift on that.

I can understand animals, and since humans are animals, I'll be able to understand all humans

Animals understanding me sounds way better — I don’t need to hear a squirrel’s 3-hour rant about acorns, I just need it to understand ‘please don’t chew my car wires.

wouldnt one be enought to also get the second?
Like lets say animals understand you
just ask - do you want A than go left or do you want B than go right?

could even start using like a Ouija board for spelling more complicated sentences

Nope. Ithey could be trying to tell me they have chest pains but i they can only understamd me, so me telling them everythings gonna be ok while im waiting for their vet visit, they could die. Or like dogs that can detect cancer. Theyres so many reasons to pick either scenario. Im just curious what orhers would pick and why

If they can understand you then you can still communicate both ways.

Bark if it hurts where I point, etc

"ok so here's the plan for y'all to reply to me"

Ok but not all animals will comply. I can sense youve never owned a husky or met a starving animal

Animals understanding me seems super dangerous, since I think most of them don’t mean me well at all, and would immediately have several advantages. Do I want bugs to k ow exactly how to devour me (and only me)? Do I want wolves to exclusively know how to track and corner me?
