Why do they do this?

Why do hiring managers and hr people say they’ll give you an answer by X day and almost never meet this deadline? It only creates expectations and restlessness.

PS: I’m at the final stage of a super long hiring process and the head of people said I’m a finalist and would give my an answer by Thursday (yesterday) or today… Any advice?

Because my organization is very disorganized and it annoys me lol. What should be a 72 hour process becomes a week long or two because the department im hiring for has a supervisor that's absolutely clueless or just outright indecisive which seems terrible for a leadership role.

Im not sure about your situation but thats my situation lol

Assume you didn’t get a job and keep looking. If someone tells you something will be done by a certain date, don’t believe them.

But it’s hard to ignore my expectations. It’s been more than 4 interviews so far and I’m at the final stage. They even said I’m a finalist. It’s hard to not think about it

Okay, how about if I just personally set those expectations for you instead?

Going forward, whatever day the company tells you they will contact you by, assume they mistakenly gave you that date. Push it back by two business days. And if you don't hear from them by the end of that day, follow up the next business day. Like just completely ignore the date that they tell you, and mark the day that you're going to follow up on your calendar.

It’s so annoying. I get a lot “you’ll hear from me by the end of the week”…and I don’t. I feel like they are saying it with the best of intentions but then they are setting your expectations to be let down. It’s totally normal not to hear for a week or two…

That and also when they tell you, they will definitely schedule you for the next interview because they thought you were perfect for the job, and then they give you a rejection email instead

People are busy and it's a holiday weekend. I wouldn't expect anything before Wednesday.

But yesterday and today isn’t a holiday, right?

I had an interview yesterday and the recruiter is off today and Monday. Then I had another today but it got rescheduled to Tuesday because the hiring manager was off today and Monday. No clue man...

Lotttttttta people took today off to enjoy an extra long weekend. Don't stress just yet. It's annoying to have someone give you an incorrect deadline, but holiday weekends are wonky.

They may have and they chose the other person. They might be waiting for that person to make a decision and show up on day one. So they won't tell us because you are the backup. But, I wonder how often the other person backs out

I had an interview Monday and recruiter said I’d hear by Friday if I’m advancing and to my complete shock, for once in my life, I heard by the day she said. She scheduled me asap for Wends with a few execs and the CEO. With the holiday weekend, I thought there would be no way! Beyond impressed.

I always assume if I don’t get a call by the end of the next day that I didn’t get the job. 90% of jobs I’ve gotten I was signing offer letters within 48 hours then just put through the process as a formality.

You have posted about this multiple times in:

r/interviews r/jobhunting r/careerguidance r/jobsearchhacks

and you have received advice there. You seem to have trouble waiting for this hiring decision.

Can you take your mind off this and focus on something else? Maybe help someone you know and focus on them?
