Rejected by Amazon... And couldn't be happier

I had an interview with the hiring manager (?) for an L-6 position yesterday and I received the email today that I was rejected.

I'm almost 100% sure it was because of culture fit reasons and honestly, I'm so glad. It was one of the most bizarre interviews I've ever had.

First of all, the position didn't really match what the recruiter or the job posting said. So that made me super frazzled out of the gate because none of my prepared examples were exactly what the job actually was (just what I thought the job was - a similar but different function). The interviewer kept pointing out that that wasn't what the job was after I'd give examples. Guess that's on me for not pivoting in the moment but like I said, they are similar enough, I thought he'd see the Leadership principles and the transferable skills.

Secondly, he talked like a corporate cyborg and kept throwing in Amazon lingo that really did not translate to my experience and it was very awkward trying to answer.

Overall it was absolutely clear that I was NOT a good fit for Amazon, and I am absolutely good with that. Good on anyone who is, but I think I just need something a little more...... Grounded.

Post interview

I had my first interview Friday, they contacted me Monday at 7am to let me know I’ve made it to the second phase and would like to schedule for Wednesday at 9am Interview went great lasted about 20 minutes and the manager told me he would get in touch by Monday. An hour after the interview the job posting was taken down. Is this a good sign?

How does the company have my resume if I have not submitted one?

A recruiter reached out to me through LinkedIn, and I was set for the initial interview with the hiring manager. During the interview, the hiring manager actually had my resume on his side and asked questions based on it, even though I’ve never submitted my resume. How did they get my resume? My linkedin profile does not have any resume either, and they definitely had one of my latest resumes on their side.

Guidance on post-interview

Had an interview yesterday (28/08/25) for a retail assistant position and in the interview I thought it was going fairly well, and the interviewer asked me about shifts and uni and we had a good laugh about it all, though in general I have to be honest it didn't feel that professional as it was done in a side room and felt very rushed.

She said she would let me know either today or tomorrow, it's now 5:45 PM the following day and still nothing, however on the application site the status has changed from interview to IN PROCESS this morning

Was just wondering if anyone else has had an interview like this where it feels like it went really well and then no response after? What do you guys think?

Struggling with PM Interviews despite Prep

I'm currently interviewing for Product Manager positions and finding the interviews significantly more challenging than in previous job searches. The format seems to have shifted: instead of covering many topics, interviewers are asking just 1-3 main questions but drilling down with extensive follow-ups.

I've prepared STAR method responses and scenarios, and I'm answering the follow-up questions, but I feel like I'm only performing adequately rather than excelling. In past job hunts, I'd walk out of interviews confident I'd given my best performance. That's not happening now.

I've done several mock interviews with other PMs and seen some improvement, but I'm still not hitting the level I want to reach.

What resources, techniques, or practice methods have helped you sharpen your PM interview skills, especially for handling deep follow-up questions?

Didn't get to give an interview even after being selected

So I got an on-campus opportunity in an MNC, the first round was an online exam which I passed and got the mail for clearing the round and to wait for the next round which was the technical interview. My friend got the technical interview within a week of the mail while I waited, then she even gave the HR round while I was still waiting. After almost 3-4 weeks I got the mail for the technical interview, so I started preparing, I prepared so hard but the day of the interview, it was suppose to start at 3 pm so I joined the lobby 15 mins before. I waited nervous (my first technical interview) 15 mins passed no interviewer came then 30 mins passed still waiting. I thought maybe other people’s interview must be going on but 2 hours passed i kept staring at the "wait for the interview to start" screen, now my nervousness turned into frustration, I was hungry, didn’t even have my lunch because of this.

I contacted my placement cell in-charge teacher, he told me "it may take many hours" so he suggested I wait but after 3.5 hours I told my teacher again, he said they will reschedule. Although I lost all hopes I still checked my email repeatedly.

The next day I checked the email I saw they rescheduled the interview at 3.30, I thought maybe this time it will definitely happen. But again the same story repeated, I sat in front of the laptop for 3 hours dressed in formals, didn’t have my lunch and got disappointed again. This was very unprofessional behaviour from the company's side. If they didn’t want me they should have rejected me at the first place. I was so interested in this company, I thought they were better than the other (literally was so excited about the opportunity) but boy was I wrong. Worst experience ever, i waited so long and couldn't even show my skills, didn't even get a chance.

Lesson learned: most of the mncs are evil.

Why do hiring companies take so long?

I don't understand this. When I would post for a new position it was about a 3 week process. End of 1st week narrow down applications to 5. 2nd week phone screens and narrow it down to 3. 3rd week 1st round and hopefully 2nd round of interviews, make the decision and get an offer drafted.

I am literally getting responses this week for jobs I applied to in July. I don't even remember applying for some of them. And don't get me started on saying you will have decision by the end of the week and then nothing... It's not hard to follow up, there is software that will do it for you automatically with the push of a button.

Rant over

Question about backgroundchecks

I had a pretty good interview the other day, but I was asked about a background check and if anything unusual would come up. I told them, "like a criminal record or something? No, I dont have a criminal record". Now I just realized that car accidents come up on a background check and I happened to have 3 accidents within a few years, 3-4 years ago. Should I email them, and say I didnt think to mention that I had a bunch of car accidents within a few years of each other?

None of the accidents were my fault, one of them even occured while I was parked and not even in my car. They seemed pretty friendly about everything saying that they dont have a problem hiring ex-cons, people deserve a second chance. What do you guys think? Should I email them or just let it be? Interview was 3 days ago

Adapt, overcome, get the job

As a HM years ago, I scheduled an interview with a promising candidate. She arrived 10 minutes late, normally a no-no. She showed up sweaty and out of breath. Her car broke down and she hoofed it the rest of the way in heels. I gave her the job and had no regrets.

Interview presentation

I have an interview coming up as Head of Service and need to prepare a presentation on the topic

How would you instigate a cultural change project across a service with a multitude of skill sets, whilst maintaining a robust legislative control framework with a focus on value for money.

Can this trusted community kindly provide some practical tips and useful framework I can research to develop my presentation .

I’m relatively confident on how to deliver a good presentation I just need info on the “What” so I can give it my best shot . Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

What to Expect in a Final Interview with a Director?

I’m about to have the final stage of my interview process, and I could use some advice.

So far, I’ve had three interviews — one with HR and two with my hiring managers. I even prepared and presented a case study. Now, my next step is an interview with the company’s director.

My potential hiring manager has already been coaching me a bit, which I take as a positive sign. Still, I can’t help but feel nervous.

  • What should I expect in this kind of final interview with a director?
  • Could the coaching from my future manager be a good signal that I’m close to getting the role?

Any tips or insights from those who’ve been through a similar process would be greatly appreciated!

The anxiety is eating me alive

Been interviewing for my dream job for the last two months that I got through an internal referral. I busted my ass for each round, studying a lot. In fact in one round, they booked my next interview on the zoom call because I had done so well. They even said they wanted to use some stuff in my assignment going forward and loved the way I thought about the problem.

Had the final interview yesterday with the CEO and got an email last night saying they wanted to make an offer - contingent on references. I emailed them back late last night with references and answers to other questions (salary expectations and start date).

I made a small mistake in my email in one of the sentences I wrote and it’s eating me alive. I doubt they will care or even notice, because I definitely wouldn’t. This is somehow the most stressful part each time - getting that contract and signature.

Following up after an interview if the stated deadline has passed

I interviewed for a role at the beginning of August. During the interview, they said I’d hear back by the end of the month.

I sent a follow-up email in mid August, thanking them for the interview, telling them I was still interested, and asking if the end of August was still the likely timeline. I didn’t get a reply.

It’s now the end of August and I still haven’t heard anything. Would it be okay to send another follow-up, or would that come across as pushy since I’ve already emailed once? I don’t want it to backfire.

Typical interview questions

Hi all,

Recently laid off after 10 years at the same natural foods company. I was in demand planning, sales forecasting and co-pack management.

I am curious what questions are getting asked at interviews nowadays. I can’t imagine it’s the same “what’s your greatest strength/weakness”?!

What questions are common that I’ll need a good elevator answer to?

Thanks!!

Need questions for a followup interview that's happening in 5 and a half hours

I have a followup interview for a job at a gutterguard company that just consists of me standing in a Lowe's and advertising them. It pays 18/hr +commission.

Issue is I need questions to ask so I don't look like an idiot, but I already know everything I need to know. They have a model I can show off to customers, I just need to gather addresses and contact info to set up appointments if I want said commission, they've pretty much explained everything. Any advice?

Recruiter here, What would actually make the hiring process better for you?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been recruiting in the tech industry for about 5 years now, mainly for mid-to-senior engineering and product roles across the U.S. and Europe. Over time, I’ve realized that while we recruiters see things one way, candidates often have a very different experience.

I’d like to hear from you directly:
– What’s one thing you wish recruiters would stop doing?
– And what’s one thing you’d like to see more of in the hiring process?

I’m genuinely looking to better understand where we can improve, communication, transparency, interview prep, or even the way we reach out. Honest, constructive feedback is very welcome.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts. I’ll be reading through all the comments and replying where I can.

Appreciative recruiter trying to do better

Helping brothers & sisters get into university in the UK (with or without qualifications) – Free service

As-salamu alaykum brothers and sisters,

I’ve recently set up an education agency that works directly with universities across the UK. Alhamdulillah, I’ve signed official contracts with these universities, which means I can support students for free – the universities pay me, not you.

👉 Who I can help: • Students with no formal qualifications who still want a way into higher education (through foundation, access, or open university routes). • Students with A-levels, BTECs, or other qualifications who want support with applications. • Mature students who want to return to education.

👉 What I do: • Guide you through the application process step by step. • Match you with universities and courses suited to your background. • Help with foundation programs if you don’t have the standard qualifications. • Answer questions about routes, requirements, and options.

There are no charges to you at any stage – my agreements with the universities cover the cost.

If you or someone you know is interested in starting their university journey (whether in London or elsewhere in the UK), feel free to DM me and I’ll be happy to help.

JazakAllahu khayran 🌙

Recruiter round interview question

I would like to know your thoughts. Have you had an interview during the recruiter round when he or she was late for 5 minutes? And at the end, he or she tried to wrap up earlier than the 30 minutes interview? Obviously, the recruiter is back to back. Would you recommend to ask additional questions to find out more about the position, the hiring manager, the culture? Or let it go and be courteous about the recruiter schedule? Which way would you choose?

What is the worst mistake you made or heard in an interview?

The worst mistake I made: joked about not returning a library book on time.

The worst I have seen: the candidate read their entire resume word to word when describing their experience.

Interviews suck

I had an interview Tuesday for a position in a company that my background, experience, and education wildly exceeded the qualifications for. I would not normally say that, but in this case, it is true.

The interview was only 30 minutes and it was mostly the hiring manager being surprised by how qualified I am and shocked how I was self motivated to learn so many things on my own.

The hiring manager had a hard stop at 30 minutes and basically hung up. He said I would hear more from the recruiter.

I send the normal "thank you" email to the hiring manager and follow up with the recruiter (like the hiring manager said to do) to find out when I would hear more and neither responded.

It is probably over, and that is fine. What annoys me is the lack of genuine common courtesy with just a simple acknowledgement of any kind.

Just venting. Anyone else have a similar story?

Response to thank you email after an interview

I took an interview and latter sent a thank you email and received this response from the Director of HR who was on the panel:

"Thank you for your kind note. xxxxxxx and I enjoyed meeting you and getting to know about your experiences, skills and passion. Wishing you well "

Does it sound anyway positive?

Offer release delay in a Global Company

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask for some perspective on my current hiring situation. • I completed my final interview on July 31st and felt it went well. • On August 8th, I received an automated rejection email through Workday. • On August 21st, the recruiter called me and said the rejection was a mistake. They gave me a verbal confirmation that I was selected for the role but explained that the official offer letter is delayed due to regional legal approvals. • Later that same day, I received another automated Workday email showing a new requisition ID with the status “Offer in Progress”, which the recruiter explained was because they had to create a new requisition to move me forward. • The recruiter also mentioned that they will release my offer as soon as the next batch of approvals comes through and that if the current region’s approval doesn’t work out, they would try to fit my profile into other regions instead. • Since then, the recruiter has reassured me multiple times that the offer is real, that I shouldn’t worry, and that approvals are just taking time. They asked me to check in weekly. • Today is August 29th, and I still haven’t received the official offer letter.

Has anyone else experienced a situation where: • A verbal offer was given but the official letter was delayed for “legal/approval” reasons? • Recruiter reassurances and Workday emails seemed misaligned?

How long can such delays usually take, and at what point should I start getting concerned or looking elsewhere more actively?

Any advice from people who’ve been through this would really help.

Thanks!

Offer is on hold from HR end even after clearing technical rounds!

In one of the WITCH companies, HR informed I have cleared 2nd round of interview and did HR discussion over phone and said offer will be released in two days! Even after a week they haven’t released offer and HR is saying not able to connect with panel who took interview and cannot proceed further without their feedback! How can they conduct HR round if they don’t have confirmation from the panels!? Also asking to join within 30days if offer is released! I felt it was unprofessional to lie each day that you will be getting offer! Is this common in service based companies?
