Transportation to island Shuttle from seaplane to ferry

We are backpacking 5 days next week taking Ranger III to Rock Harbor and flying back on via seaplane. Where is the best place to park? Is there a shuttle or transportation from where the seaplane lands to where the ferry picks up?

There is a parking lot at the Ranger III dock. There is no shuttle service, but you could call a cab company up there and schedule in advance or try Uber or Lyft when you get in.

The seaplane company has phone numbers for taxi services. You’ll have to arrange a a taxi from Hubbel back to Houghton but it’s a short drive.

The parking lot at the Ranger III dock is getting work done so parking is limited and you may not find a spot. Park at the Seaplane dock and schedule a morning taxi to take you to the Ranger dock. Then your car will be waiting for you when you land. Seaplane lot is safe. They do charge $8 a day for parking at the sea plane lot.

I just looked up a taxi in Houghton and some old dude picked me up in the morning. I did it the other way last year, left my car at the ranger dock, got a taxi to the sea plane, flew out and took the ranger back in.

Yup, no problem, I'm glad to help, you're welcome and I hope your trip goes well.

Can't answer the parking question, but with respect to the distance between the sea plane and ferry dock in Rock Harbor, it's pretty close. There is no transportation of any kind on the island. You have to walk - but nothing's very far apart (in Rock Harbor).

I think they mean between where the sea plane lands on the mainland and where the ranger docks on the canal

Ahh. Ok. Yeah, I know nothing about that. I came in via Grand Portage.
