About to be homeless…

I’ve been in my field for 10 years, gave everything to my career, and now I’m staring at the possibility of being homeless.

Back in January I quit my job because it was SO toxic. My boss kept gaslighting, throwing tantrum at me, dumping more and more work on me, and pretending like I wasn’t already working myself into the ground. Walking away was the only sane choice I could make. I don’t regret it one bit.

I took some time to breathe, then jumped back into the job hunt. Since then? Nothing. Silence. One recruiter finally gave me a shot at a screening call, only to basically tell me I was ā€œtoo qualifiedā€ and they worried I’d get bored. Like… what am I supposed to do with that?

I thought I caught a break when an old colleague asked me to help out with their business expansion. I got to work right away, felt like things were finally moving again. Two weeks later, they decided to hit pause and shift focus back to their HQ overseas. Just like that, gone.

I moved to a new country, a new city a year ago so I don’t even have a strong network here. Everything I built before feels out of reach.

I know the market sucks right now and I’ll keep trying, but damn… it feels like I’m getting crushed. And lately, I’ve been questioning if I’m even as useful as I thought I’d be in this country, in this market. I’m doubting myself hard, and it’s getting harder and harder to stay positive.

Job I interviewed for said I’d hear back by the end of the week

On Monday I interviewed for a position at a residential care facility. They are a new company set to open mid-September. I thought the interview went well, and I sent a thank you email after. They asked my availability, when I would be able to start, and said my degree would make me a good fit for the role. I was told they are trying to make a decision by the end of the week, and that I’ll hear back either way. I’ve been checking my email all day, but haven’t heard anything.

At this point I’m assuming I didn’t get the job. I try not to get my hopes up, especially after interviews, but it’s hard. I’m trying not to feel too discouraged.

Job Application Advice - Trainee Accountant

Hi Everyone, first time posting on this subreddit.

I am a trainee accountant, 22 years old, and am currently looking to find a role in a local accountancy firm.

I've found the job hunting process to be really frustrating recently. Most firms I have applied to, prefer a candidate to have a year's worth of practice experience, or prior experience in another aspect of accounting such as auditing. I have 3 and a half years' experience working in industry.

I had worked in practice as a trainee accountant. However, due to lack of support and my own understanding of completing certain jobs, I was let go during my probationary period.

A recent casestudy, is that I applied for a local trainee role. Everything, from the AAT level required (Level 3/4 AAT), the location, and what they taught was very well suited. I was told as such by their AI assistant, that reviews the applications.

However, frustratingly in the job description, the client is said to prefer prior auditing experience. Hence, I was told by a member of the recruitment company that they wanted a candidate with experience in auditing. I have queried this in a follow up email, regarding potential auditing training, but I am not hopeful this will work.

I find it really aggravating that firms prefer this level of experience, when it is a trainee role specifically designed so candidates can learn.

Any advice on this matter, would be fabulous.

Thank you very much.

I built a resume tool to create job tailored resume — would love your feedback

Hi everyone, need your feedback and suggestion.
I built a tool : www.fitmyresume.com

Problems I faced

  1. Creating a tailored resume for every job was hectic, especially after a full workday.
  2. Even with ChatGPT, I only got plain text and had to redo all the formatting.
  3. Most resume builders (especially AI ones) are expensive.

So I built www.fitmyresume.com

  1. You can create multiple profiles (e.g., software engineer, data engineer, full stack dev ...) and save them
  2. When applying, just pick a profile, paste the job description, and it generates a tailored resume
  3. Choose a template, download and apply. No re writing or re formatting every time.

Hope it helps you land more job interviews.

Thanks allĀ !

Is it ok to call?

So, I interviewed for a part time job, and I was told I would have to wait about 2 weeks because the manager was going on vacation. I texted a week and a half after and was told I would be updated friday at 11. I assumed it was today, because the manager sent it to me on wednesday of this week. Should I call tomorrow? I really cant afford to keep waiting and i desperately want and need this job. To call or not to call?

Im in the beginning of a masters degree and this job is amazing for pay, scheduling, and its still in my field without being the exact thing i go to school for. Its literally perfect, and I really need good advice. I do have the experience for it, and I was told I would be one of the contenders and I feel the interveiw went really well too. I just want to be the right amount of pushy and not overdo it.

Trapped in retail after graduating university. How do I finally break out?

I graduated in IT & Business a couple of years ago (with no experience unfortunately). Since then I’ve been trying to get into data, business analysis, or tech roles in the UK. I even did a data analytics training course, got close with some analyst/BA jobs, but ended up being rejected at the final stages.

It’s now 2025 and I’ve been working in retail for the past year just to get by. At this point I feel like applying for grad roles is a waste of time since I’m a couple years out.

I’m open to other industries too (operations, digital marketing, e-commerce, etc.) — anything that gets me out of retail and onto a career track. I’d even volunteer to get some experience if that helps.

My questions:

  1. What’s the fastest realistic way to transition out of retail into a proper career role?

  2. Would a Master’s actually help, or is it just a waste of time and money?

  3. Is volunteering worth it to build experience? If so, how do I even go about finding opportunities or asking to volunteer? Has anyone actually managed to land a job this way?

I feel stuck in an infinite loop and need some clear direction, any advice would mean a lot.

Is that a polite thing to do?

I’m at the final stage of a hiring process at this company and thought of connecting with the hiring manager (who I’ll be working closely with) on LinkedIn. Is that a polite thing to do at this stage?
