Layoffs Just got laid off via text

Post image

I’ve been crying so much over this. I genuinely can’t believe how heartless some people can be…

That's unprofessional IMO to send thru a text. Should be a phone call if getting fired or email

This should've been a in person conversation if at all possible. Phone call over an impersonable email any day.

For layoff some ppl know in advance while not others, but I've had that and was done via email. Then if someone is fired that should basically be in person on the spot. If you're a supervisor ya gotta have confrontational skills, sounds like some young person how they don't call anymore and text someone a break-up text 😂

I work remotely so I would understand if it were a phone call. People email resignation letters all the time too but have the balls to not send a text and put in some kind of effort. I'd be pissed and upset that my boss didn't give two shits about me to tell me to my face. When you said text message breakup I immediately thought of this video which used to be popular when I was in high school.

Personally I’d prefer the phone call. I don’t want to waste fuel and I’d like to be able to plan my day out since I’m off, instead of assuming I’m working all day to only end up winging it.

Happy cake day!

An in person conversation, means that the person has to be paid to come in that day. An added expense the company seems unable to afford.

I’d rather it be in text. Much easier to show unemployment that you were laid off due to no hours.

It's the fact it's a text, not email. They couldn't have done that if they had no cell either 😆. Text is just not professional level

Yeah you’re right about it being unprofessional. OP having a cell phone is already known knowledge though.

Ok, but if you're terminated you don't have access to your work email, or they may not be one at all. They may not have your personal email.

So if it comes down to a phone call to my personal number vs text, i think i would rather have it in writing

I'm curious what the difference between receiving a text and an email could possibly be?

17

u/TheBear8878 3d ago

Nothing, it's just people finding something to bitch about.

u/BeeFor20 3d ago

That's what I figured the correct answer was.

There is literally no difference. Its just Redditors being whiny for some reason.

I don’t check my email so I’d show up to work not even knowing I was fired

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

Or pretend I didn’t see it so they’d be forced to tell me in person hahaha

Not even sending paystubs. Professionalism isn't their vibe... don't think they give a shit. Also what's the difference in professionalism between text /email? Lol

u/Recent-King3583 3d ago

But like others have said, it’s good to have it in writing

Yeah that for sure, need proof for UI so guess just gotta keep texting. When I had layoff they tried to dispute saying I quit when they literally said they won't dispute. So B4 it came to the actual dispute part I'm glad got all back pay. The place has constant lawsuits so I told my friend yeah they trying to dispute to save yet they pay their multiple CEO millions each 😆. I had my last check and my letter layoff so my last paystub actually said layoff 😂. How dumb are they trying to dispute that, after proof, that was all. UI actually sent me a letter saying company lied 😆

Damn I shoulda read my letter bc they gave me thirty days to find a new job so idk if I was laid off or fired.

1

u/doglovers2025 1d ago

😂. Does it say layoff? If fired they'd fire immediately, most layoffs give some sorta severance

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

Idk I didn’t even read it just threw it away 😂

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

I kept saying I got fired and ppl kept saying did they say you were fired bc who gives you 30 days to find a new job. They never said whether I was fired or laid off, just gave me 30 days to find something else so I left early that day for an interview without saying a word to anyone and called them afterward saying I wouldn’t be back bc I got a new job lol c

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

I think bc I could have sued them for firing me im almost positive, that was their way of protecting themselves. A few things had recently happened leading up to this that were illegal I had called them out on which led to a meeting saying we don’t want you here anymore

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

I have never been fired or laid off at 37 so I have no clue lol. They just said I had thirty days to find a new job

2

u/doglovers2025 1d ago

We had a formal voluntary layoff which I took, got couple months pay, place was awful so a way to get some extra money 😆

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

I had no idea you got paid for a lay off. They laid off other people with my same job title at another office so I wonder if they got pay. One of the reasons they wrote me up was for taking too much time off. I looked up the days and one was MLK day. I was like how am I being punished for not working on a holiday when the office is closed? I was also wrote up for taking vacation that they approved. They said I needed to save up more vacation time. Then when I left I had one day of vacation that they didn’t even pay me for on my last check which pissed me off. Like ok yes lemme save a bunch of vacation so when you let me go you don’t have to pay it out

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

Oh and the vacation, which was approved that I took off, everyone else took vacation at the same time too, so I was like did you want me to come to work and just sit here?

1

u/Consistent-Option827 1d ago

Then they asked if I wanted to stay there, I said well I’m not gonna stay and then you fire me in a few months and I miss out on other jobs (I already had interviews lined up for rest of week) so idk wtf really happened. I got wrote up the week before for bs that is illegal and called them out on it. The next week this happened. I also discovered by accident they were possibly fraud insurance which I did report after I left. I brought it up in a meeting and then was wrote up afterward. Then let go

When gen z becomes management (im gen z)

1

u/Ishie_kun 3d ago

is an email that much different than a txt? Atleast a txt is instant and not delayed waiting on you to check your email?

1

u/NoBonus6969 3d ago

Because so many people do calls these days.

1

u/itsmicah64 3d ago

They're clearly cowards
