Layoffs Just got laid off via text

Post image

I’ve been crying so much over this. I genuinely can’t believe how heartless some people can be…

This is why a “two week notice” to quit a job should be considered a professional courtesy and nothing more.

That’s exactly what it is

It's the right thing to do... When others do right by you

u/suciothegreat 3d ago

They do right by you until they don’t

I only do it if I’m putting the job on my resume

If I’ve been at a job for like a month or two and it’s just not a match, lmao *poof* I’m gone

My company pays out vacation time when you quit, so they are definitely getting a two week notice.

If I have any vacation time at the time, anyway. This December I plan on taking off from December 19th through around January 19th or so.

Check your state laws, you may get it regardless.

edit: and exact wording of your vacation time and how its classified.

Ooooof, I’m really sorry to see that. Yeah, you’re giving that 2 weeks…

I didn’t give two weeks notice to a few jobs and I still got my vacation paid out

Some states by law have to pay out earned PTO

I think most states do for large corporations. I'm unsure about small businesses.

And it is not a law to give 2 weeks notice

1

u/lbcatlady 3d ago

Ca has a law about that.

Ok, that's the law, so good that they follow it

No it isn't.

Unless your employment contract states that if you resign without or short of two weeks notice, you would be required to make payment equivalent to your notice period. (Mine is one month)

It's insane that most companies are adding this rule to their contracts, but they can get away with terminating you instantly, job market is hell right now.

In many cases the thing they make you sign legally isn't an employment contract because it has some text to the effect of "this document cannot be enforced against us". In that case, it is gratuitous and legally void.

In that case, Don't quit just stop coming in. Start working at your new job until the old one fires you

Do you think they send the Job Police after you if you don't put in a 2 week notice? That's all it is, ya goober.

500+ upvotes though lol. This place is so fucking stupid sometimes.

Also, I’m pretty sure this is attempted murder.

I’d assume they’d just keep your last check

1

u/911ChickenMan 1d ago

Don't assume. There's only a few states where they can hold your check, and even then it's under very limited circumstances (such as not returning equipment). Not putting in notice doesn't count.

It's a good idea to put in notice, but all they can do is give you a bad reference.

I've been in a career overseas doing contracts where you give a 2 week notice and they fire you. If I give a 2 week notice now I make sure I have 2 weeks vacation time saved up and simply resign.

Ill always give 2 weeks, never had a bad experience giving 2 weeks, dont work for shitty companies

3

u/dankHippieDude 3d ago

After how i’ve been treated and seen peers treated, ill never give 2 weeks notice again.

Not giving a two week notice likely doesn’t hurt the company, it only hurts your coworkers who now have to pick up the extra work.

I work in IT and have had coworkers quit without notice. Their support tickets just get reassigned to the rest of the team and just take longer to complete. From what I could tell, it doesn’t affect the company or managers at all.

Should be a legal requirement, in an official document with a signature that allows you to express disagreement

I thought it was.

Exactly! Yet the one job that fired or laid me off gave and me thirty days to find a new job, when I asked if I had to put in a two week notice they said no😂
